Due to the breaking news on The Mudflats today, we've experienced high load on the server.

This is quite normal when a lot of people are trying to access a website all at the same time.

Probably the best way to explain it is to imagine The Mudflats forum and blog like a swimming pool. There is enough room in the water for XX people - if people arrive and there is no space for them in the water, they have to wait till someone else gets out so they can get in.

Nothing has crashed, nothing has "gone down", the server is working exactly as it is supposed to - if you can find space in the water. Wink

If you cannot read the story on the flats, you can see it here on huffpo.

(and please save me from seeing all the posts on other sites that it has crashed etc.. Bang Head )

Greetings,

Couldn't have put it better myself, I've been monitoring the server from work all day today and was quite impressed but the way the load was controlled, yes it would have been nice to have a 'bigger pool' but our budget isn't that big, esp since these extra loads aren't that often.
Having said that on previous hosts as many of us know, the 'pool' would get over filled with excess demand and rupture, spilling everyone out and us techs having to rebuild it each time. This new server however has had very good bouncers keeping it under control so the server and the 'pool' stayed operational all along, so when the load quietened down all was still running.

So aplologies to those you got bounced by the bouncers but at least the pool didn't break Wink

Thanks for your patience.
