Mark your calendars, Mudpups & Mudflatters!  Shall we live blog the event?

Live From Washington! It's Obama Health Care Drama http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=9896003
Quote
Coming soon to daytime television: America's long-running civic drama over how to provide better health care to more of its people without breaking the bank.

President Barack Obama summons anxious Democrats and aloof Republicans to a White House summit Thursday — live on C-SPAN and perhaps cable — and gambles that he can save his embattled health care overhaul by the power of persuasion. Adversaries and allies alike were surprised by Obama's invitation to reason together at an open forum, as risky as it is unusual.

I think it was a rather perfect move on his part.

I plan to watch every moment of this event.  Might even try to find a way to record it.

Do you get CSpan, daMamma?  If so, they will have it as a video you can go back to, most likely, on their website.  That's how I managed to watch all of the Sotomayor hearings, 4 days worth anyway, absorbed over the course of about 6 days of my own time.

No, I don't get C-SPAN on the TV, am hoping that the connection is good for the internet though.  I'm thinking it just might be high traffic for this event.

Good news/bad news.  I finally have a regular, paycheck type of job (temporary, tho), but it starts on Thursday!  So I will miss seeing the summit live.  Smiley Sad

There is NO public option in the White House Plan.

Quote
Finally, despite a late-stage push for the White House to include a public option for insurance coverage in the final bill, the president's proposal does not include any element of government-run insurance.

I have to say, I expected this.

Public option legislation will have to be an add on, I fear, after some kind of foundation of health reform is laid down.

As a 'left-leaning' European (who eats cheese), my mind just boggles at the reluctance to provide healthcare for all, regardless of income, I just cannot comprehend why some people should be so vehement in their opposition.    Undecided

Whilst the public option has been left out, there are some good features.

Quote
<snip>
Obama has basically taken the Senate version of the bill and added sweeteners aimed at winning back voters who expressed hostility to the reform.

The biggest sweetener is the creation of a body that will decide whether increases in premiums by insurance companies are unreasonable. This comes on the back of angry public protests in California after an insurance company raised its premiums by 39%.

cheese eatin' socialists, one and all, you Yurahpeeans...

I'm amazed at my own countrymen and women, Siren.  Why would anyone think that raking in major profits and setting health coverage up like a gambling game would be a good, Amer'kin idea?

By the way, if you're cheese-eater, you probably have some core genetic tie to Wisconsin...

I have this on now. I am not watching it closely because it would make me scream if I did, but I'm watching it. It's all grandstanding. The Republicans are grandstanding for the speaking points that will appear on faux noise later today. There's some grandstanding by the Democrats, too, though.

I hope I'm wrong, but two hours into it, I don't think anything material is going to come out of it.
