Hi, my name is John Sweeney and I'm a 34-year resident of Alaska, currently living in beautiful downtown Spernagain.

I am a vigorous defender of responsible free speech.    I have avoided blogs like the plague -- I get my news from established print media, the New York and L.  A.   Times, Anchorage Daily News and other major daily newspapers.    So, I'm not sure why I'm here, except that many of my acquaintances view Mudflats and that I was a commenter with some newspapers whose filter was too lax with conservative rage and too strict with liberals.

I believe a bona fide news story must, with some rare exceptions (the John Edwards story one of them), originate from legitimate news outlets.    And these writers must be clearly identified and not use pen names.    I also detest the abbreviations and cuteness that most bloggers use.    You will never see any intentional grammatical errors in any of my posts.    These are just my standards.

Let's have some fun!

Sincerely,

John Sweeney

 Welcome

You should find this an enlightening experience and, I think, different from many other blogs/forums.  reindeer

welcome John!
I have to say that I have been a journalist for three decades...I was also a university professor of journalism before I retired.

AKM is one of the best journalists I have ever met and I think you are making a kneejerk reaction to "blogger" that is completely unfounded...

But I hope you can take a step back from your pre-conceived ideas about "bloggers"...we have some really good investigative journalist "bloggers" here, and they do a better job than mainstream media who make huge bucks...we do it because we're good at what we do.

John, welcome. I, for one, promise to be grammatically correct. My teeth grit whenever I read "it's" when its is required.
