Palin Desecrates Flag. Again.

Desecrate the flag once, shame on you!

Desecrate the flag twice? Shame on you also, too.

Yes, Sarah Palin has taken her big honkin’ Sharpie marker and yes…. autographed a FLAG. The Stars and Stripes is now the Stars, Stripes, and Sarah Scrawls. For supposed uber-patriots, I don’t know whether to be more surprised that someone actually asked her to sign a flag, or that she actually DID. You can see the spectacle at about 1:31 in the clip. This whole flag desecration thing is getting to be quite the persistent metaphor for the entire Palin impression on the nation’s psyche. Perhaps Bible autographing will be next.

We hear about how Tea Party folk like to carry around a copy of the Constitution with them at all times to impress people at parties. Maybe if you’re looking for a stocking stuffer for your Tea Party “Patriot” friends this year, you might consider a pocket-sized flag code. Nah… they probably wouldn’t read that either.

    I saw a flag autographed by an entire military squadron to a man in Iraq who served with them. So our military folks should be reminded this is not acceptable. Then again this man saved many of our troops and he is glad to be safe in this country now so let him have his autographed flag.

    I know this is hardly an original thought, but this is yet another example of a behavior that the Republicans, Tea Partiers, and other right-wingers, would absolutely have hissy fits over if Pres Obama did it.

    When that picture of Mrs Palin leaning on the flag-draped chair first came out, I described it in an internet forum inhabited mostly by right-wingers … but I described it as being Barack Obama dressed in workout clothes, posed that way. Instant outrage – and then when I revealed that, oops, I meant to say it was Sarah Palin posed that way, I was reviled for “cheap trickery”.

    I am sure the Fox “News” fans, teabag-hat-wearers, and Beck followers would raise a huge outcry if the President were reported to have autographed a flag. But hey, special rules for special people, right? And Mrs Palin is soooooo special.

  3. ibwilliamsi says:

    The Flag is not a prop. This stuff disgusts me.

  4. Algionfriddo says:

    I’ve not as yet become an expert in ‘Palinees’ but I believe the correct version is not…
    Desecrate the flag twice? Shame on you also, too.
    It should be…
    Desecrate the flag twice? Shame on you too, also.
    Just sayin’.

    Sister Sarah is Queen of Clueless.

  5. RiverWoman says:

    That thoughtless cow should be ashamed of herself.

    My son-in-law died defending that flag.

  6. I’m expecting at her next rally she will have Piper selling flags for her to autograph. Never miss an opportunity to make money for her SarahPac.

  7. Winski says:

    Mud:

    I still find it breath taking what you guys have to put up with from this woman… I’m more astounded sometimes by the hour..

    Isn’t Flag Desecration a FELONY ??? Isn’t TWO COUNTS a double FELONY?? Ooppps, I forgot…Lower 48 laws don’t apply to the hag-o-swag when she’s there…right?? Or, is it when she’s looking off her porch??

    Speaking of porch, has the fence annex on Todd’s place come down now that McGinniss is gone??

  8. We made flag etiquette a big part of day camp back when I was a co-site director. We insisted that the flag ceremony was done properly and that the flag was displayed and cared for properly. It’s really disgusting to me to see Sarah sign two flags (who knows how many more) without even a hesitation. And it’s equally disgusting that those waving the flag do so in such a casual manner – the one woman looks like she is ready to dust the ground with it. That people actually offer their flags to be signed is just as bad. They should certainly know better.

    I remember my mother always cringed whenever she saw sports teams wearing flag replicas. And when they win, it’s fine to take a flag, flying beind them, as they do a victory lap, but draping it around their shoulders is so wrong, no matter who is doing it.

  9. Zyxomma says:

    How many of these flags, flag pins, stars’n’stripes ribbon magnets on gas-guzzling SUVs, etc., are made in China?

    • jimzmum says:

      Exactly, and I am guessing 99.9%. All of those things are against the code. Did you know that only the people serving in the military should be wearing flag patches? Nobody else. The code is a fascinating document.

  10. Reba in Va says:

    please, pretty please…..

    I see a flyinyoureye poster in 3,2…….

  11. diamondeb says:

    Remember the old bumpersticker, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” Sarah and her Koch-fueled t-baggers are a colossal red herring for those who feel disenfranchised, a lethal waste of time. Some will be elected, and it will take four or six years to vote them out or prosecute them. Waste, when we can afford it least.

  12. Molly says:

    What’s more disturbing is to see people holding Sharron Angle signs.

    That woman is frightening, perhaps, also, too.

  13. Nebraska Mudpuppy says:

    As beth says, there is no penalty for violating the code of honor, except for members of the Armed Forces. It’s a First Amendment kind of thing. However, that does not excuse the hypocrisy of it all.

    W did the same thing, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMxrpcghRFA

  14. jimzmum says:

    This makes me ill. It really does. Our flag is a symbol of our country and should always be treated with respect and dignity. Disgusting twit.

  15. GreatGranny2C says:

    O/T – This just came through in “The Politicol Wire”, a news blog.
    http://blogs.reuters.com/photo/2009/07/24/life-with-a-quiverfull-family-the-story-behind-the-story/
    This is all that the piece contains at this point:

    ~~~~~Palin’s Disclosure
    Jay-Newton Small searches Sarah Palin’s financial disclosure filings and discovered that her political action committee recently hired Allison Meyers, the same RNC operative who was fired for arranging a party at a topless, bondage-themed nightclub.
    A search of RNC filings from earlier this year confirms that Meyers and the newly-formed Altered States Alliance LLC — which was paid for “fundraising consulting” — use the same mailing address.~~~~~
    So much for family values amongst her business contacts. This isn’t the first time that shadow companies have cropped up.
    • Dagian says:
      It makes sense to me! Dominatrix $arah, you know.
  16. WhichTruth says:
    It’s all about Sarah.
  17. dreamgirl says:
    OT, Sorry AKM….but who cares about what ex-Governor-quitttypants says or thinks?
    Scott McAdams FTW!
  18. Blooper says:
    Sarah who? (J/K). But seriously, I will say though that as sordid as this AK Senate race is getting it has been great not seeing her in the headlines every day. But as sure as the sky is blue and water is wet I’m sure she’ll be rearing her ugly head once again after the elections are over. Unless of course Scott McAdams wins and then maybe she’ll stay away for a little while longer in that monstrosity of a compound until the sting of embarrassment wears off.
  19. Bretta says:
    It’s actually the third time photographed – see the calendar from a few years ago where she has wrapped herself in the Flag of the USA.
    Is this a prosecutable federal offense? Sweet Jesus, I hope so.
    ‘Course if she gets caught she’ll say it was a gotcha by the LSM, blah, blah, blah, etc., etc., etc., ad nausea, ad nauseum. I’m sick of it already.
    • beth says:
      I don’t believe there’s any ‘penalty’ for desecrating the flag. (Come to think of it, this is the *first* election cycle, that I can think of, where it has NOT been a core issue/rally cry of the Republicans/far right. For *years* they’ve been clamboring –every election, like clock-work– for a law making it a punishable offense to burn the American Flag in protest.)
      The whole Code thing is an honor code – it is what we do, and do not do, to -and with– our national symbol. It’s what we, the people, (via our Congress) have decided is the *proper* respect we ALL should show it…hence the Code.
      Funny – with all of our diverse religions, races, countries of origin, creeds, etc., the two things ALL of us citizens have in common with *no* deviation or variation, are our nationality and our flag. There has *never* been any dispute about either of those; never been a willful, systematic, thoughtless, trashing of either.
      And then SHE comes along. And starts signing MY flag. Wrapping herself in it while excluding others she, apparenlty, deems not worthy of the freedoms it stands for, she thinks nothing of breaking that time-honored code that ALL citizens abide by.
      Once again, it’s all about $arah. What a vulgar, vulgar, vulgar woman! beth.
  20. Rene says:
    AS this video is seen by more people, C4P is pricing flags with a machine autographed Palin signature. (I am making this up for sarcasam). By morning Beck and Limbaugh will twist this that people are against the free market… and writing with a sharpie on a flag is not desecration!
    The next thing we’ll know is people who wear flag clothing can’t wait to praise Palin and Beck for teaching them the constitutionally correct way to treat a flag. Then C4P will rant about people are just envious Sarah makes so much money issuing statements the rest of us couldn’t hold a job pushing a broom or passing them french fries.
  21. AK Raven says:
    Who the hell does she think she is? F’n Betsy Ross????
  22. beth says:
    Technically, she’s desecrated the flag at least 3 times [that I’m aware of.] Once by using it as decoration/prop for her photo shoot, and twice by signing it…she signs one at minute 1:36 and a second one at minute 3:43. That she didn’t hesitate for a second before putting her sharpie to it, tells me she’s done it before; I’m guessing many, many times before. Did she get special dispensation to do so? Truly a disgusting, tawdry, vulgar woman. beth.
  23. Turk401 says:
    Didn’t she also sign a military person’s uniform while at the book signing at Elmendorf AFB last year?
  24. Lee323 says:
    What’s this speculation about Palin autographing the Bible next?
    Didn’t she already do that with her book tour last year?
    Her crack-brained fans sure thought so.
    • slipstream says:
      Before she can autograph the Bible she will have to edit out the parts she doesn’t like. Jesus said “judge not that you be not judged.” THAT has to go, along with a lot of other sections. But don’t worry, you will love the new Bible Lite.
      • Dagian says:
        *snort*
        Of course, when you point out that Jefferson not only had a Koran in his library, he also edited a Bible after an interesting discussion with Dr. Benjamin Rush (another of our Founding Fathers), $arah will only declare that she’s doing him one better. Ignoring the education, the class, the philosophy behind what he was doing (whether you agree with him or not).
        The Jefferson Bible, or The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth as it is formally titled, was Thomas Jefferson’s effort to extract the doctrine of Jesus by removing sections of the New Testament containing supernatural aspects as well as perceived misinterpretations he believed had been added by the Four Evangelists
        • Dagian says:
          I had to do it, bear with me, folks. From Wikipedia (lazy moment):
          Benjamin Rush (January 4, 1746 [O.S. December 24, 1745] – April 19, 1813) was a Founding Father of the United States. Rush lived in the state of Pennsylvania and was a physician, writer, educator, humanitarian and a Universalist,[1] as well as the founder of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
          Rush was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence and attended the Continental Congress. He was also a staunch opponent of Gen. George Washington and worked tirelessly to have him removed as the Commander-In-Chief of the Continental Army.[2] Later in life, he became a professor of medical theory and clinical practice at the University of Pennsylvania. Despite having a wide influence on the development of American government, he is not as widely known as many of his American contemporaries. Rush was also an early opponent of slavery and capital punishment.
          Despite his great contributions to early American society, Rush may be more famous today as the man who, in 1812, helped reconcile the friendship of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams by encouraging the two former Presidents to resume writing to each other.[3][4]
          • Zyxomma says:
            Rush is a hero of mine for something he did NOT accomplish. He attempted to get freedom of medicine amended to the Constitution, just as we got freedom of religion, predicting that if we didn’t have it, at some future time, a group of men would organize to have THEIR form of doctoring be the only acceptable one. Considering that the AMA organized to get rid of the homeopaths, and later went after chiropractors (they were against it before they were for it), this has, indeed, come to pass.
          • Dagian says:
            Zyxomma,
            I see that he was very much opposed to slavery, too.
            *sighs*
            Any definitive biographies about the man that you could recommend?
  25. beth says:
    Ummm… doesn’t this deserve to be cross-posted over on Huff? The more folks who can see it –and share it– the better. beth.
  26. Xenon says:
    Palin = Desecration.
  27. tallimat says:
    Dang, we here at the tallimat household were thinkin Sowah was gonna scribe her signature on the “I have Palin’s face tattooed on by butt” dude.
    In any case, I’m not surprised Sowah did this act of disrespect. Not at all.
    This just means I gotta make a visit to my staunch republican neibor and show him this act of disrespect. He is kinda a tea party freak, but is proudly sportin a McAdams
    sign in his yard… Unlike Joke Miller, my gentleman of a neibor follows the West Point code of honor…
  28. Baker's Dozen says:
    And Sarah should see how careful we are with our flag at our church. People are picky, picky, picky and most of the church members are lefter than Pelosi. But since I’m not a rill Umerikun, mebbe I shouldn’t make up words. Like Shake the Spear shouldn’t either (but he liked the second amendment)
  29. Baker's Dozen says:
    We’ll get to watch what tea party ideas do to the UK now! They voted in their conservatives before we voted ours in. I think they’ll flush themselves down the toilet.
    What a cheesy venue. If I went to see a candidate, I’d expect something better than what looked like an abandoned parking lot.
    And, I know the picture of her desecrating the flag by draping it on the bar stool is airbrushed (just look at the vibrant colors and lack of wrinkles on the flag!), she isn’t looking that good now by a long shot. They’d need a much bigger air brush. Perhaps an air spray paint gun. That would be right up her second amendment alley. 🙂
  30. Elizabeth says:
    I am outraged! Ever since 9/11/2001 the uberpatriotic folk have misused the flag in every conceivable way, I thought. It is a constant irritant for me. Now this. How dare she call herself a “real American”; she can’t even respect the symbol of our country.
  31. seattlefan says:
    That video was so depressing. It is a bunch of completely uneducated, low information folks who rock with that country music and get caught up in movement that they have no idea what anything is about. These folks are so proud to be in this momentum because in their whole life, they were probably never involved in anything before. Sarah puts her name on anything and everything just to bring in the bucks. She is the perfect leader of her chosen demographic. One who knows nothing, spews talking points, has no ideas or solutions and with all of that she still inspires her ignorant masses. Perfect! Sorry…I am so disgusted.
  32. Lacy Lady says:
    I meant to say——get the video to Spitzer!!!!!!
  33. Lacy Lady says:
    How do we get the video of her signing the flag to AC360 or Blitizer or ??????? somebody????????
  34. AKjah says:
    Yup just what i suspected. Should you stop frame the vid and blow it up she signed -Joe Miller. We all know pay backs are -are-are-happen.
  35. slipstream says:
    Why does Sarah Palin hate America?
  36. Tomandlou says:
    I am still shocked at the stupidity and brainwashed mentality I see in these Seniors. In any event I’m getting hoarse and a little whacky in my effort to change minds that resist change . Again I say the very people they support want to bury them in a paupers grave.It’s frustrating and I’m beginning to wonder when the big guns are going to take on the fight?
  37. leenie17 says:
    But, but, but..
    …she’s such an iconic Amurkan figure that it’s okay for her to be signaturing the flag with her Alfred Hitchcock, who was being one of our wunnerful Founding Fathers and being so bold to sign the Emancipation Proclamation that told the King of Russia that Alassssska and this Amurkan country of ours was going to be freed from tyranny and the reign of evil lubruls of the Democrat Party.
    Isn’t that how it went???
  38. scarlet/oregon says:
    Her disrespect for the Flag is sad enough, but sadder still are the people surrounding $arah & hounding her autograph………….they have not a clue where this woman is leading them, yet they follow like sheep and can’t give a credible reason for doing so…….yikes!
  39. Moose Pucky says:
    Let’s desecrate $arah. Vote for the McMan!
  40. Writing from Alaska says:
    Precisely speaking:
    (g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
    • blueberrybabyak says:
      Kinda makes me sick… the disrespect of placing ones own name ON the flag…
    • slipstream says:
      What about elbows? Can ya drape it over yer bar stool and lean on that sucker?
  41. jojobo1 says:
    Me too and I sure let McCain know it too.
  42. CO almost native says:
    So much for respecting the flag as a symbol of our country; maybe Palin should create her own, complete with (don’t tread on me) snake and dollar signs.
  43. nswfm says:
    I think the Military might have a thing or two to say about this US Flag-desecrating dumb ass grifting multi-granny.
    Oh, how I wish she’d never been introduced to the Lower 48.
    • sallyngarland,tx says:
      I totally agree. It just looks like never, ending years and years of Palin and her family. It’s Sarah and Bristol now and there’s still the other children to go.
    • dowl says:
      And Hawaii. The other 49.
      • nswfm says:
        You are right. I know some of your Senator’s relatives and should have included HI and the rest of the world.
        Jeeze, what a fiasco this screeching beauty pageant loser has turned out to be.
  44. Progressive in VA says:
    She has autographed a baby, a puppy, and the flag. Will an apple pie be next? Oh those iconic images!
    • dreamgirl says:
      Scott McAdams FTW!!
      (let the ex Governor of Alaska and the Thomas Mugthee Whitchdocter-Beseecher wither and prosper on the lying arm of FOX)
      Go Scott McAdams!!!!
      A vote for reason and sanity.
