Open Thread – Rachel Maddow Visits McAdams HQ!

Thanks to all who sent in their email requests for tickets to the live broadcast of The Rachel Maddow Show from the Taproot Cafe in Anchorage tonight!  We were INUNDATED with requests. With a limited number of tickets to give, and thousands of requests, there were relatively few lucky winners.  If you were fortunate enough to get tickets, you should have gotten an email to the address you used that would have arrived somewhere between the hours of 11pm and 1am.  Be sure to check your spam filter for an email from moore4maddow@gmail.com just to make sure you didn’t miss it.

But, if you didn’t get tickets, there is still hope!  Tune in tomorrow to The Shannyn Moore Show on KUDO 1080am or stream it at kudo1080.com from 11am to 2pm.  Shannyn will be giving away a limited number of tickets on the air!

Rachel Maddow arrived in Alaska this evening, and decided to do a pop-in at McAdams Headquarters!  I stopped by to snap a few shots, and I have to say… I’ve never seen so many enthusiastic phone bankers!  There were three rooms full of them.  Some were even sitting on the floor because all the chairs were filled.  The phone bankers had nothing but good to report. There were lots of smiles and anecdotes about how receptive voters were to Scott’s message.

Rachel stopped and said hello to everyone, and the excitement in the air was palpable!  She met up with the staff and the candidate himself who showed her around the facility and was interviewed for the show tomorrow.

The broadcast is something that everyone will be able to enjoy.  You don’t need a ticket to tune in to MSNBC or watch it online and check out all the fun!

A hearty Mudflats welcome to Rachel Maddow, and all of her amazing support team who work so hard behind the scenes.

And for you lucky chosen few, we’ll see you tonight at the Taproot!  Arrive at 4pm. If tickets are not claimed, they will be released to those hoping to attend the show. Doors will close at 4:45 for the 5:00 taping so don’t be late!

    Great Show!!!

Great energy up there!! Go Scott!!!

Now…someone out there needs to get the scoop on Miller service…hurry time is running out

  2. LoveMydogs says:

Slipstream: got raptured off of chat again. more trouble than it is worth tonight.

  3. vyccan says:

This has been a REALLY awesome day and night! Like most of you I’ve been extremely hyped up about Rachel’s visit, even to the point of watching certain segments more than once. I could actually feel the energy that was being given off through my computer screen! Now I can go to bed in a pleasant frame of mind. I sure hope Alaska brings it home for Scott (and the rest of the country) on November 2nd!

  4. Great show. Love all you Alaskans. Rachel’s the best journalist on the planet right now. We are blessed to have her.

  5. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    well, shucks.
i’ve been posting all evening as just “fawnskin” and all of my comments went into moderation.
looks like i need the “mudpuppy” to validate my authenticity. a wagging tail is always a sign of a friendly ally to be sure.

    • dreamgirl says:

      Woof woof. (((tail wagging)))

What a great show tonight. The excitement was palpable, especially at MCAdams campaign center.

I liked how Racheal showed that Miller and Murky are almost like voting for the same thing and that McAdams has much more different values. McAdams has strong values for Alaska.

Thank you Racheal Maddow and MSNBC.

Thank you Linda-Wan, AKM, Shannyn and everyone who made this happen. May Scott McAdams sprint to the finish-line well ahead of the pack.

  6. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    testing

  7. fawnskin says:

i have to agree with a poster over at im who said that they were disappointed that tank was inteviewed as an expert on the gay issues in anchorage…i thought entirely too much of the program focussed on tank and his rather naive views of all things alaskan.

    • Califpat says:

I certainly agree Fawnskin!! That time could have been used to hear why some of the people were voting Republican!!! They were totally clueless and I loved how Rachel allowed them to sputter and have no clue as to why did not vote for a candidate or why they did not. They held their signs up in glory with out having any facts!!! How come I am not surprised!!??

      • vyccan says:

Another way to look at this is that it focused on him because Rachel was a captive audience for that part. I mean, she was driving with him, and his living there does ‘qualify’ him as a resident with an opinion (nuanced, or not).

  8. Sourdough Mullet says:

Just returned from the taping at Taproot, and have to say it was absolutely awesome!! What a great vibe in the room with all the McAdams supporters! It was so crowded you could barely move.
Rachel was amazing in person – funny, engaging, and absolutely beautiful! I think I may have my first girl-crush! (apologies to my man) 😉
The taping was so much fun to watch, and the crowd was totally fired up. The respect for Rachel was palpable, and everyone minded their manners. We were all SO grateful to Rachel and to MSNBC for making this trip to Alaska and for covering this race! Woo Hoo!
P.S. Arrived w/ an extra ticket, but Kharma stepped in, and the moment I arrived, I got right behind a woman who had gotten there without a ticket, and with only hopes of getting one. I told her she could have my extra ticket, and she was so moved that he glasses fogged up and she had tears in her eyes. What a wonderful thing to find just the right person to give it to! I don’t know who she was, but obviously a fellow mudpup. We had a lovely conversation while waiting in line, so we both lucked out! Can’t WAIT to watch the show online tonight!

    • leenie17 says:

Isn’t intelligence combined with a great sense of humor terribly attractive, no matter what gender the person is? I don’t get MSNBC on my below-basic cable service but I always wait with bated breath for 11:15ish to catch Rachel online.

Tonight I got to see some of my favorite women (Rachel, AKM, Shannyn) in one of my favorite places…now I’m doin’ the mudpup happy dance! (Of course it MIGHT also have something to do with my narcotic cough medicine that’s just starting to kick in!)

    • aussiegal77 says:

I am so jealous you got to meet Rachel Maddow in person. I would love to take her and her wife to lunch =D

    • I also found someone to share a ticket with. It was fun.I really wish I hadn’t had so much trouble loading Mudflats, cause it would have been more fun to make comments here with you all like we did on Sunday rather than trying to write by myself over on my old blog. At least I could open it regularly- probably because there is not traffic! I have this great little netbook, but am mainly using connection through cell phone signals so it is a little iffy sometimes.

  9. Enjay in E MT says:

Good show !! Waved @ AKM & all other unknown mudflatters I don’t know by sight

What can you say…. Joe was joe – it’s up to the states not the federal government to decide if homosexuality is well “allowed” Sounds like he wants 50 states to operate as different countries under the Federal government. Each one with its “Thou Shall or Thou Shall Not” Guess that way – only people like themselves will only be allowed to reside within its borders. Gated States, guess thats where I am going with it. Thats what I got out of his little snip of an interview.

  10. benlomond2 says:

..It took a wee bit of concentration to follow Joe’s answer on Gay rights… I’ve never heard someone talk out both sides of their mouth (substitute a different orifice if you like) so well… Deciding Gay rights is a State Issue…for the diversity of the nation… but Gay rights will have to be addressed at the Fed level due to taxes, etc… but it’s a State issue, and shouldn’t be decided by the fed..excepet of course for a partner’s rights/benefits under fed law, ,….. so JOE… where do you stand on Gay rights..? Joe closes car door and gives a Thumb’s up to Rachel…. idiot doesn’t even know which finger to give a bird with…… 🙂

    • aussiegal77 says:

Dude……Joe Miller lost me after he started in on Federal issues which are…….to do with taxes?? He was ridiculous. How can anyone find him credible? Ok fine, he’s pro-life, more power to him but if he can’t even stand still for 5 minutes and do an interview like a normal candidate who knows the issues? I mean, really, gimme a break here – as if it wasn’t bleeding obvious that he was desperately trying to dodge any serious or difficult questions from Maddow by hustling thru from lobby to SUV in a mad dash to get away from her. Another fantastic and well informed candidate endorsed by Team Sarah!

    • dreamgirl says:

My eyes glazed over then my ears followed suit. It’s clear he likes to look important by zooming around with his goon squad and mumbling “it’s a state issue…. if 3/4 voted I would… it’s a state issue…” What exactly did he say? I wouldn’t mind reading a transcript of his 200 yard obstacle -course Maddow interview. How disrespectful of that douchbag Miller.

  11. benlomond2 says:

Great show !! Loved the Miller interview..of him AND his followers ….Holder’s anti-gun… name one item…uuuuhhhhh….uuuhhhh….uuuuhhhhh… ROFL !!!! IDIOTS !! 🙂

    • aussiegal77 says:

That had me laughing out loud, seriously. Especially when Rachel helpfully pointed out that Holder is not an elected official and does not have a voting record……the BLANK STARE from the previously adamant young man was hilarious =D

      • benlomond2 says:

kinda reminds me of O’Donnel’s …” the First amendment is about seperation of Church and State “??????????

      • dreamgirl says:

Blank stare and MOUTH DROP! Klunk. He needed all his reasoning powers to try and pickup his jaw off the ground. What a maroon, poor kid.

  12. aussiegal77 says:

Mudpups, check out this Media Matter Op-Ed – An Invitation to Sarah Palin to “refudiate” Glenn Beck

    http://mediamatters.org/blog/201010260009

I am telling you guys – I promise in fact – that I will donate to SarahPAC cheerfully if she does in fact draw a line and say Enough is Enough, Glenn Beck!

We’ll see what Palin is well and truly made of.

    • A Fan From Chicago says:

Wow, this is going to tax her abilities to the limit. How to respond to that thrown gauntlet in 140 characters? Looks like the walls are closing on the accidental celebrity.

Joe Miller is taking on water faster than a New Orleans levee. The Tea Baggers are finally, and frighteningly, showing their true colors (and mercifully people are starting to pay attention.) Her speeches and physical appearance show a rapid deterioration. Bailey’s in the morning can’t be helping.

Her numbers are down. Her blood pressure must be up. Her voice has to be breaking glass everywhere she goes. Damn New York Magazine for putting her on this week’s cover but that may make a point about the perils of print journalism.

Rachael Maddow is in Alaska. Miller’s report is dribbling out. Republicans are starting to grow some….. conscience(!).

Could it be the beginning of the end?

      • aussiegal77 says:

This is definitely a test of her leadership skills. Glenn Beck is beyond the pale – if Palin really is a Christian, she should stand up for what is right. Political opposition should be spirited and passionate but never violent or threatening. If Palin really is a constitutional conservative who believes in this great democracy then she should defend everyone’s right to free speech.

We’ll see what she does…..or does not do =D

    • Baker's Dozen says:

With her word salad would we or anyone–least of all Beck–understand if she refudiationized him? 😀

    • LoveMydogs says:

      Best comment from this article:

“Something us liberals need to realize: we can’t appeal to the better judgment of people who have none.”

That pretty much says it all.

  13. curiouser says:

Tank seems to be clueless about the right wing xtian anti-gay and anti-abortion presence in AK, especially Mat-Su Valley where he’s advising Levi in next year’s Wasilla mayoral race. What about Prevo and the successful effort to block gay rights in Anchorage? I think Tank gave Rachel bad information.

    • aussiegal77 says:

I agree – when I was listening to him talk with Rachel, I kept thinking uh, no, I think you don’t know what you’re talking about…..hahaha

  14. physicsmom says:

    Tank was pretty funny.

  15. seattlefan says:

Shannyn on Palin: She is a QUITTER!

Great interview with Shannyn! Love how fired up they all are. Now they have Tank on?

    • dreamgirl says:

Shannyn: “The mushers don’t quit, if you’re rowing a boat you don’t quit…you don’t survive if you quit”, I’m paraphrasing but that was the gist of what she said. Loved it. Sounded like a true Alaskan telling it like it is.

  16. aussiegal77 says:

I like Lisa, she seems personable but Scott McAdams is the best the candidate for Alaska, I really really hope he wins. Can’t wait till next Tues!

Lisa seems like a moderate and I appreciate she is running a tough campaign. And I do agree – we have to have a discussion about Social Security. However – privatizing it is not an option, that is insanity. Wall Street already wrecked the economy, how can we give them MORE influence over our finances?

But seriously – ELECT SCOTT MCADAMS!! =D

  17. fawnskin says:

why am i in moderation…is my excitement causing the innertubes to backfire

  18. bubbles says:

them there Alaskan Dems are fired up!!!!

  19. fawnskin says:

linda is sitting to akm’s right

  20. physicsmom says:

Leasa is blowing it on privitizing Social Security. Gah!

  21. physicsmom says:

Scott did wonderfully. He’s such a down to earth guy with a lot of information at his command. Good job!

    • leenie17 says:

For someone who supposedly has so little political experience, he seemed well-spoken, educated about the issues and cool as a cucumber!

      Go Scott!

  22. curiouser says:

I’m watching from CA. Woo hoo! Jeanne got a great seat! It looks like a great time for those fortunate to be at the Taproot.

  23. bubbles says:

Rachel interviewed Senator Murkowski. she did alright.

  24. fawnskin says:

i see mr akm also and too

  25. bubbles says:

i can see AKM. she is sitting right there in the front row. waving at ya AKM!!!

  26. OK – I am on my blog – easier for me to write from there – apologies to not being here – click on my name – I will bring more info over here if I can – it is crowded !!!

    • physicsmom says:

Can’t find any activity on your blog. :-<

    • bubbles says:

nice job WFA. succinct. just the way i like it. thank you. although i can’t imagine how you saw anything sitting behind Tank. that is a big man.

  27. puffin shrapnel palin says:

This is SO exciting. Keep up the hard charge, AK Dems! We’re all behind you!

  28. fawnskin says:

i’m trying to say that i see akm but the filter is keeping me out!

  29. fawnskin says:

    i see akm

oops forgot the where -to-read–em part

  31. puffin shrapnel palin says:

    I see Whitekeys! Woot!

  32. Writing from Alaska says:

I am live blogging from Rachel’s show at my blog – which I will post the link to shortly. Presently we are watching her interview with Lisa Murkowski on tape. If you are on the forum find one of my posts and you can link over –

  33. Alaska Pi says:

Joe Miller’s records have been released.
    Yuck…
enjoy the Rachel Maddow show, rest up a bit and read about the shenanigans he got up to…
    yuck, yuck, yuck…

  34. physicsmom says:

I see AKM right behind Rachel. Woot!

  35. aussiegal77 says:

Watching Rachel right now!!! I love Rachel Maddow, she is one of the few real journalists left.

  36. zyggy says:

I am waiting to hear back on how the taping went. I can feel the excitement from way down in Seattle. Okay now my foot is taping and my arms are crossed, I want to hear about the show. I know I know, I’ll be watching it in a few hours, but now the same as getting first hand info.

  37. Cortez says:

Had friends over last night. Before the debates, they were undecided but somewhat leaning towards Joe. After the most recent debate, they were pretty solid in Scott’s camp. And this is Wasilla!

  38. EatWildFish says:

AKM: I hope Rachel will see for herself how reviled Pay-lin is in Alaska. All she has to do is read the comments in any ADN article that mentions Pay-lin. A good read for her long flights!!

  39. LoveMydogs says:

Hearing loss? Needs hearing aides but never pursued it? Hmmmm. Does that somehow explain his loss/lack of integrity? Maybe he should pursue the hearing aides. Then he might actually be able to hear what the people who aren’t screaming have to say…..

  40. AKPetMom says:

Joe Miller was just on Talk of Alaska w/Steve Heimel (KSKA) and the last question from a caller was re: Miller’s service related disability. Miller said he never said he was a disabled vet and does not collect disability, he however does have a service related hearing loss and should probably have hearing aids but never pursued that. He also said he had a service related knee injury but has never pursued benefits for that either. So, it seems he’s flip flopped on this as I could swear he has previously said he was disabled vet. There are countless articles and interviews on the web where he has said he is a disabled vet but would never disclose the particulars.

    • Terpsichore says:

Would hearing loss partially explain his (over)reaction the other day when his lectern mic apparently was not loud enough and he got a little snarky? Was his wife’s reaction that of trying to help him out because she guessed he couldn’t hear what they were saying and maybe thought he thought they were hecklers?

  41. Lori in Los Angeles says:

I am so excited for Scott, AKM, Shannyn and all friends in Alaska! Kudos to Rachael for traveling to Alaska – she may be able to turn this race around! Maybe our President will show up to campaign for Scott – I can dream, can’t I?

    • Moose Pucky says:

McAdams has this race on the right track. Slow and steady.

Rachel can add the frosting on the chocolate moose!

      • Moose Pucky says:

Oops. Did I say slow? He’s more like rapid transit than the little engine that could.

  42. Firecracker says:

Joe Miller is on Talk of Alaska. I don’t know how long I will be able to listen to the show. Almost the first thing out of his mouth was his military record. Amazing. I love that his background is off limits except for the parts he wants to promote.

  43. blue_in_AK says:

I went to bed all dejected last night at midnight, having not received a reply to my e-mail, but, HOORAY, I turned on my computer this morning and there it was — CONGRATULATIONS! Oh, boy, am I excited. Thank you, Linda, Shannyn and Jeanne for this wonderful opportunity.

  44. OMG says:

Great headline picture on Huffpo right now of a very dim GOPer staring aghast at Thomas Jefferson (I tried to link but….). Since Palinites of all stripes are denouncing the ‘separation of church and state’, I thought I’d at least post Jefferson’s letter for all of us:

    http://www.usconstitution.net/jeffwall.html

  45. OMG says:

This is great–whose prayers does God listen to?

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2010/10/christine-odonnell-prayer-election-god/1

Which makes you wonder why God is so engrossed in the goings on in US politics when there’s so much happening around the world. I would have thought that the creator would spend time helping those in need not just those inspired by their own greed.

  46. Moose Pucky says:

Love those photos. Thanks Rachel, AKM, Shannyn.

  47. ed says:

    Fantastic!

I hate to dampen this thread with this but Washington Post’s Dana Milbank post on Miller:
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/25/AR2010102504270.html?hpid=opinionsbox1
    he nails it.

  48. TheRubberRoomHotel says:

Wow! Great work getting Rachel here! Wish I could be there!

  49. loki says:

I’ll have to catch it on the internets; sadly I did not get tickets. I could have increased my chances by using my co-workers government computers. And I could have had to used my lunch hour, but I don’t really get one since I’m part-time.
    But I didn’t.

    • ks sunflower says:

Good one! Someone by the initials of JM should take lessons from you! LOL!

      • loki says:

and every bit is true, including that I didn’t even think of using my own government computer/email to enter. And I did a double-take, as MY initials are JM!

  50. scout says:

Welcome to Alaska, Rachel!! Quyana for coming!

AKM, Linda and Shannyn – what can I say? You are the trifecta perfecta!

  51. Lynne Sangster says:

I am so delighted that Rachel will be in AK. I hope she sticks it to ’em. She is ‘outing’ the framework of Alaska hardline politics. I do believe that McAdams can when if people continue to make personal contacts (phone and in person). Excellent work Linda and Shannon for getting Rachel to hear your pleas for AK politics and take notice that ‘we’re here…..’! H

    • Lynne Sangster says:

The last ‘H’ was to be: Have fun and show Rachel and staff a great time in the Last Frontier. I would love to be there.

  52. Gramiam says:

Pardon me if I find it hugely satisfying that the Swag hag will get little if any press while Rachel is in Anchorage. That will put her in her place!!

  53. Zyxomma says:

Terrific!! I look forward to seeing this on the ‘net.

  54. leenie17 says:

Wow…the animals are really getting dangerous!

Outside a debate between Rand Paul and Jack Conway, a woman representing MoveOn.org was pushed to the ground. As she was being held on the ground, not resisting, a Rand Paul supporter deliberately stepped on her, pushing her shoulder to the ground and hitting her head as his foot moved.

She’s okay but the incident was caught on tape and the police are reviewing it to determine if they can identify the man and, presumably, decide if charges will be brought against him. Paul’s campaign issued a vague statement urging his supporters to remain civil, but not referring specifically to the incident. Meanwhile, supporters of Paul are rushing to blaming the victim, saying that she must have done something to deserve being assaulted this way.

I worry that, because so little is being done by the campaigns on the right to quell this kind of violence, that it will escalate until someone is seriously hurt or killed. Thanks ever so much Sharron Angle and your ‘second ammendment remedies’.

    Absolutely disgusting.

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/26/paul-stomp/

  55. Buffalogal says:

Latest Palin twitter has no text. Just this link :

    http://fb.me/AoOZwyVk

She now adds China and the Chinese people to her list of “others” that must
    be feared and/or hated.

    grumble.

    • Kat says:

And she’s too ignorant to realize we know that GW was the one who SOLD us to the Chinese to fight his illegal wars & huge tax cuts for the wealthy. Not to mention the Corporations sending all our jobs to China and other countries. Excuse me, I must retire to my closet for another primal scream. AWGGGGGGG!

  56. tallimat says:

    This is sweet.

  57. jimzmum says:

Since everyone reads here, I hope someone reads this.

    Dear Robo-call people,

Stop already. This is Illinois. No politician cares about anywhere else except Chicago. I don’t live in Chicago. Ergo, I have made up my mind long ago to vote the Democrat ticket anyway. At least if this governor is a stinking crook, he’ll be a Democrat stinking crook again, if he wins.

It is nine in the morning, and I have already had two calls. I answer them because I like giving answers that have nothing to do with matters at hand. This last time I was a member of the Igneous party, but was voting the straight Sedimentary ticket.

    So, stop calling. Thank you.

    • Bretta says:

I’m joining the Igneous Party. I might vote Metamorphic, though, just to be Obsidian.
      Thanks, Jimzmum! You Rocks!!

    • scout says:

has the party of orbicular diorites formationed?

    • Hannah says:

I got a call today from a person who knew my name and name of my adult son (college student who lives at home) and asked us to vote for the (unqualified) Republican candidate for governor and a Republican state rep candidate in whose district we *don’t* live. I’m a registered Dem and my son Independent. Weird. I’ve been phone banking for our Dem candidates and the system blind calls. Not always the best, one person wondered how I got his unlisted number, I got someone at a community college number, etc.

Will be glad when it’s over, and hoping for the best. Maybe sanity will rule after all? Joe Miller is a piece of work and needs to be investigated, not elected!

  58. calaz says:

Thanks to the Alaskadispatch and ks sunflower for the info.

  59. ks sunflower says:

Someone may have already mentioned this Wonkette article on Joe Miller’s military disability, but I just found it and was shocked by the amount of money he may be pulling in per month tax-free at a time when he rails against government programs.

Why won’t he discuss what his disability is? The article mentions he may be classified as 30 percent permanently disabled. Wouldn’t you think that would be obvious or at least noteworthy?

    http://wonkette.com/427531/wonkette-exclusive-joe-miller-runs-screeching-from-reporters-very-basic-
    question

There is something seriously unsettling about a candidate with so many secrets. When he fights this hard to keep so much from being discussed or examined, when he runs this fast from his past, when he tries so hard to keep doors closed, something is very, very wrong.

    • jwa says:

I’ve been wondering why we hear so little about his military service. He went to West Point and apparently got out after his minimum service requirement. One would usually expect a service academy graduate to make more of a career of the military than just one term.

What do we know about his duty and service as an Army officer and why did he leave so quickly?

      Inquiring minds want to know.

      • Bonsai66 says:

Actually, his commitment was the same as mine, (I graduated from the Naval Academy a year before Joe did from West Point): 5 years.

He got out under an unqualified discharge after three years, which means that something was up, and he may have been in trouble before he resigned his active commission.

        • ks sunflower says:

Thank you for your service, and thanks for the information. It is nice to hear it from someone whose experience can dispel the confusion.

          • Bonsai66 says:

            You’re welcome, and thank you.

I just want it to be clear that Joe did not complete his commitment to the Army, in exchange for his education and training at West Point.

    • merrycricket says:

He knows if the truth comes out about his disability, one of two things will occur. He will either be judged by the voters as unfit to serve in the Senate, or found guilty of fraud. The man is the male version of $arah and I have to wonder if there isn’t something ELSE going on between those two, if you know what I mean.

  60. calaz says:

Wow oh wow. We know from his actions that the man is a scum, but this hidden asset thing sounds a little illegal. Trusts that don’t exist, sale of land where Joe turns from friend to venom spitting lawyer.
Way to go, the info needs to be made public. Or there is the option if he should win (shudder) and take the oath. The lack of disclosing becomes illegal and actionable in a court of law.
Being the great legal mind that he is, he should know better, beware Joe it will get you in the end.

Please, please, please, someone point Rachel towards the following article on Joe Miller. I wouldn’t expect her to accept it at face value, but it sure deserves further inquiry as it speaks to the character of the candidate. Voters need to read this and reflect upon whether someone who conducts business like this is really someone they want representing them. Just another example of Joe Miller’s lack of ethics and compassion for fellow Alaskans, in my opinion. I am ashamed he hails from Kansas. We don’t much care for this kind of behavior either.

No small wonder that Joe Miller doesn’t like the press and investigative reporters. He has too much to hide.

Will this saga of half-truths and shady dealings ever end?

    • OMG says:

Palin has taught him many things…or is it that he has taught her..?

    • Bretta says:

The Palins own cabins and land out there, right? It was at issue a couple of years ago – I forget why – something about reporting for property taxes?

    • NMJ says:

Will this saga of half-truths and shady dealings ever end?

      Really – you had to ask? I know, I know…hope springs eternal…

    • Gimme-a-break, Sarah says:

All the tidbits coming in about him just keep underlining what a nasty little man he is.

  62. ks sunflower says:

Welcome indeed to Rachel Maddow and her crew! Even in Kansas, I can feel the excitement. We, too, are manning phone banks at record rates even though this is one of the “reddest” of states. Of course, I live in northeastern Kansas where the little progressive seedlings are sprouting. We nurture ourselves and like-minded folks as best we can so that one day soon, Kansas will outgrow the regressive mentality that has dominated us for far too long.

Alaska can be our role model. Alaska can set the tone. All it has to do is reject politicians such as Governor Parnell and the Miller-Murkowski flummery. Alaska can show us how it’s done by electing someone of vision and hope such as Scott McAdams! Alaska can do this – for its own sake and all those who want something better, something with heart and hope!

After all, you’ve attracted Rachel Maddow to your state! That is so fantastic!

    • overthemoon says:

We’re rockin’ in Lawrence, too. Major blitz.

      • overthemoon says:

I was in OP last week and was shocked by the flagrant waste of money exhibited by the huge number of Brownback Kobach and Moran signs along Metcalf. Money to burn, obviously. With so many people unemployed and /or struggling, this is really insulting.

I think its worth some photos for post election review of campaign finance.

        • ks sunflower says:

What a great idea overthemoon! I am going to get my camera out. Those humongous Brownback signs are truly odious. I find the colors he selected to be appropriate in that they remind me of the barnyard: dark brown with streaks of suspicious yellow. Also reminds me of sick baby poo. Oh, well, I consider him a sick puppy anyway.

Glad to hear Lawrence is hot with election blitz-fever. I love that city – so many wonderful moderates and progressives! Yahoo!

Still, I want to say thanks for your suggestion. Taking photos of those signs – which seem to crop up mostly around shopping centers, banks and insurance buildings – hmmmm. At least I know now where I will not spend my money, eh? (hehe)

          • ks sunflower says:

For those now from Kansas – you have to realize a “moderate” is considered a progressive and a progressive is considered a radical amongst many enclaves of the intellectually and compassionately-challenged.

        • jojobo1 says:

I have thought the same thing especially all the millions from focus on family, the Koch brothers and Murdock (Fox) What those millions and millions spent could have gone for a lot of other things besides these races read where McCain even voted against his own co-sponsored campaign finance bill now. The man aught to just retire instead of taking his S.S and living off our taxes when he has as many houses and vehicles or maybe they are his wife’s and he can’t touch them!!!! At any rate after working with Feingold to pass the bill he now wants it gone

    Wonderful post, wonderful pictures!

As ThatCrowWoman said, thank heaven for the interwebz! I’ll be watching it online – and can’t wait!

    • Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

I fergot – not that it matters, but – I had no idea Scott McAdams was so tall. Rachel is around 5′ 11″ yet McAdams is well above that in height; must be around 6′ 5″ or thereabouts..

Enjoy the day, you lot. It’s a good one already lol

      • Alaska Pi says:

        He is very, very tall!
And manages not to speak down to anyone…
NONE of that big person looming over others to intimidate thingy which has led me to jump up on tables or desks and talk down to some who do do that …

        🙂

        • overthemoon says:

He made Greta VS look like a midget!!

          • Bretta says:

In presidential elections and boxing, the taller one is usually at advantage.
In presidential elections the taller one always won, until it was Bush vs Gore on TV then those in control were very careful to make them appear to be equal height during the debates (from the home viewer’s POV) – you know what happened next.

        • mmboucher says:

Maybe he could try to fill our great Ted Kennedy’s shoes.

      • faithful pup says:

Thank you so much-this is trivial but my husband and I started wondering about Rachel’s height when she did the tour in Afghanistan and we noted she was taller than most of the soldiers. Her love of cowboy boots adds to her height but she wasn’t wearing them there. Ironically we saw her first on TV as a guest panelist on Lou Dobbs….back when he was relatively sane. We are from Western Mass. and are understandably proud of “our” Rachel. Thank the Gods she is a Mudpup too it is soo much fun to see her highlight the Alaska good folks and the really good pols the state does have.

      • Eddie in Anchorage says:

I heard he’s almost 7 feet tall. I shook his hand at one of the debates and was grateful he controls his strength, because those things are as big as grizzly paws! Go Big Man!

  64. thatcrowwoman says:

Just look at the warmth in the smiles of Our Rachel and Our Great Scott.
Happy dance in the forest this morning! I’m all tingly and excited and feeling Yes We Can.
    Congratulations, Alaska! Enjoy! 🙂

Heading towards Orlando after work, representing my union at the Florida Education Association delegate assembly. I hope I light somewhere in time to catch the show. (If not, thank goodness for the interwebz!) I’ll check back here tomorrow for highlights.

    L’Chaim!

      Excellent article!

    • scout says:

From the article: Liz says quitty’s trainee thinks, “rules were meant for somebody else.” Sure, Liz, silly ethical rules like you really shouldn’t use the U.S. Postal Service to send mailers to voters that contain complete falsehoods.

I say, Liz Kettle meet Joey-the-Lid.

      Vote McAdams!

    Rachel Rocks!

  66. Karen says:

Oh I wish I was there!

    • skunkcabbage says:

Yeah, it’s killing me too. So close, yet so far away. I’ll just have to use some of my precious wisp internet allowance to stream both Maddow’s and Moore’s shows this week.

I live in the Sound and make it to Anchorage about every 6 weeks. I’m not going back in until Nov. Missin’ all the fun! But, I will be sure to make a taping at the Taproot the next time around!

What an exciting time! Enjoy, learn, share.

  68. fishingmamma says:

Welcome to Rachel! I don’t mean to dampen the mood, but I am not seeing much interest in the Mayor’s proposed plan to increase all kinds of user fees to increase revenue. Bus fare hikes, for one. That really frosts my cake! The people that ride the bus are the ones that are the lower income folks generally, and they are supposed to balance the budget?!? Why not go ahead and increase the property tax to the allowable amount and let this manufactured financial crisis just go away? Just when is the next mayoral election?

I think he timed this announcement so that everyone would be focused on the election and would not notice what he is doing.
