After watching several episodes of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, and it is SOOO obvious that she is NOT an outdoors woman at all, much less the avid outdoors woman, moose hunter, mama grisly she claims to be. It seems she is just now learning how to do all the things that “real Alaskan’s” do. So far, she has visited Bristol Bay and taken a tourist’s informational tour, taken climbing lessons, shooting lessons, bear safety classes, and learned how to club halibut.

And I swear, if she says one more time how beautiful it is outside in Alaska (as if she has never really noticed the outdoors there before) I will scream.

  2. Auni Uskoski says:

I watched the part of the show that was done with the Goslen (spelling?) family tonight. I guess it’s a rerun. Kate is certainly not the outdoor type. She was cold and wet and miserable. Why wasn’t she given the good rain clothes that the Palin family had? She certainly would have been warmer. Kate was Sarah’s guest. I always believe the hostess makes the guest comfortable, doesn’t mock her, make fun of her etc. If Sarah thinks this segment shows her to be superior, it certainly doesn’t. It just points out that she is a mean bully. Shame on her.

  3. seattlefan says:

Seven polls a tanking is music to my ears. So is the fact that only 8% of Americans would give her their vote for POTUS. In spite of it all, she just keeps on pushing on with her complete ignorance and lack of grace. I watched some of her reality show tonight and couldn’t believe what a total b*tch she is toward our country, our standards, the environment and our First Lady. It takes a lot to get me riled up and that little bit I watched had me very angry. I hope all her polls keep tanking and look forward to what #8 will be. The higher the number the better it gets. Good job AKM.

    🙂

      8 Reality Show Episodes.

Yep. 5 minutes of action packed into 8 mind numbing hours.

Newsflash!!!! Finally, after all these years, I remembered that I have a snapfish account (duh!). I posted the link to my Rally/Mudstock photos in the Rally thread. Here’s the link, in case you don’t visit the Forum:

    http://www2.snapfish.com/snapfish/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=5598068007/

    Enjoy!

p.s. For once, I remembered to hand my camera off to others, so there are a few pix of me, including one of me & Brian at the party.

    • beth says:

Followed the link: “We’re sorry, but the album you’re trying to view is no longer available through this URL. Please ask your friend to share the photos again.” I haz a sad. beth.

  5. Baker's Dozen says:

It’s obvious that the Palins are nothing more than very ordinary town folk living above the 60th parallel. They have no real interest in the cultural benefits that a city brings nor in the benefits of living in the country or bush. People in the lower 48 have motor homes, planes, ATVs, snow mobiles, AWD vehicles, fishing tackle, an understanding of bears, skis, snow shoes, and sometimes even houses that look like hockey rinks. None of that makes them unique, interesting, special, or experts. But it does imply that they’re more knowledgeable about the great outdoors than the Palins, who seem to need to purchase all of this new–not because they want to look all shiny for the show, but because they’ve never owned it before.
No wonder the kids have had problems. The family never really did anything and they had way too much time to fill without supervision or an understanding of how to use free time intelligently.

    • bubbles says:

yes. and god forbid one of them should ever read a book, work a jigsaw puzzle; or maybe play a board game. idiots every one.

  6. sierraseven says:

Oh, god, it’s true. (Also, how many cars do the Palins have, anyway?)

  7. sierraseven says:

    Another outfit.

Again I have to say, the only authentic thing in this show is Todd’s interaction with Trig.

OK, Sarah is pretending to be a waitress at Peggy’s.

She interjects a whine about the kids being “under this microscope”. Uh, yeah. On her TV show.

    She’s signing menus.

Ohhhh, no. Preview shows Martin Buser in his dog lot.

Oh, please. I have been a Buser fan literally since his first Iditarod. I was working for a local vet and met him when he came over from Switzerland to run his first Iditarod. I take visitors to his dog-lot tours. He’s the King of Big Lake. Why is he letting this phoney, screeching harridan use his dog lot to promote herself?

  8. sierraseven says:

If they’ve been visiting “Bones” Groff as a family tradition for so many years, why don’t the kids seem to be at all familiar with panning or fossil hunting?

Now they’re back at Chuck Heath’s house. Oh, boy, we get to see his biiiig pile of antlers.

Good lord, she’s worn about ten different outfits.

Coming up – apparently Sarah pretends to work.

  9. sierraseven says:

She’s referring to Willow’s boyfriend as “Willow’s LITTLE FRIEND Andy”.

Now they’re unloading 4-wheelers off of a flatbed. Good grief. Sarah says it “Four-whillers” and “four-whillin'”. Brand-new 4-whillers, brand-new helmets. Wait, you mean they don’t do this all the time?

    • sallyngarland,tx says:

“Is she trying to run a “I Am Like Gretchen Wilson- Elect Me President” campaign? She said “Redneck Women” is her favorite song.

  10. sierraseven says:

    Sigh.

“Sarah Palin’s Bizarro Alaska” is on.

You know, I just have lost my sense of humor about this show, twisted as it was in the first place. That behemoth “RV” – a vehicle with the carbon footprint of several third-world villages – hell, of some Alaskan villages – is an offense to anyone who cares about clean air. You don’t need to burn that much fuel to get even a large family to a raft trip. An overnight stay, I could MAYBE see the justification for taking that rolling luxury hotel. But a day trip 35 miles from home? And we see several large vehicles left in the Palin driveway, that could easily have hauled the family an hour’s drive. It’s not funny any more. It’s just nauseating.

And because the raft trip is too hazardous for little Trig, he stays behind with Todd. (She later states that “85 to 90 % of DS babies are aborted” – again, just BS.) Sarah characterizes this as todd “playing Mr Mom”. No, I am not kidding. No, Sarah, it’s not playing Mr Mom. It’s called being Dad.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

What more could there possibly be to do that she can claim intimate knowledge of and then demonstrate her total ignorance and lack of self awareness!? These last three shows must be really stretched thin! Maybe she bakes with Piper, reading the Spanish directions while Piper goes ahead and follows the English ones!

  11. WakeUpAmerica says:

    Interesting post at Syrin’s blog.

  12. Auni Uskoski says:

Did any of you notice when Sarahdearest was being interviewed by Barbara Walters and she made the remark about men who are impotent and limp–while sort of wagging her shoulders and using her best sarcastic tone? It gave me the creeps–one of my least favorite Sarah icky moments.

  13. PollyinAK says:

President Obama’s book – Of Thee I Sing – went up from 44 to 33 this last week on Amazon Best Sellers List!! (Palin’s book dropped from 45 to 57!!)

    • PollyinAK says:

Proceeds from PO’s book goes to military families. I bought three. They make beautiful gifts.

      • beth says:

Well….so? Proceeds from $Ps book goes to $arah Palin. At least she’s not dumb enough to give her money away — she’s waaaaay smarter than that. And smarter than PO, too. [hope you read that in your best lower-elementary schoo-yard taunt voice. ;-)] beth.

  14. Baker's Dozen says:

    Installment 2

Like I also too said before, youbetcha you can be a rill Umerikun if you were baptized into the right church, like me, but you aren’t rill Umerikun if you were born in Hawaii ’cause that’s part of that socialist fascist feudalist ancient Roman Cuban Empire run by Fiddle Castro.

You can be a famous rill Umerikun and progress this country like Crispus Attucks. He wasn’t white but he was a rill Umerikun ’cause he got himself killed in the Boston Tea Party and we all know minorities that stand up for the rill Umerikun values made by the Founding Fathers like land ownership, bein’ white, and slaves bein’ counted as part people and keeping’ wimin in their place is progression’ Umerika ’cause we need to return to these commonsense values of white bein’ the best ’cause Jesus was a white Christian and so he loves all the little white children of the world especially the boys ’cause he was a boy also too which is why Obama isn’t a rill Umerikun, bein’ born in a foreign country and not bein’ Christian and only havin’ two kids and all.

You can help progress Umerika like Potato U. Potato U. is rill Umerikun ’cause they don’t repudiate mediocrity or also too below averagidity and even like willful stupidity which I know ’cause they “liked” my Facebook page which is where all presidential proclivities are made unlike Obama that can’t write on his hand but needs a telly prompter which is dumb ’cause I can watch DWTS without a prompter and Bristol is rill good and better than Umerikun Idol which isn’t Umerikun even if it has Umerikun in the title but Sarah Palin’s Alaaaassska is rill Umerikun ’cause it has Alaaaasska in the title and all rill Umerikuns are from commonsense states like Alaaaaasssska or Texxxxxxxxxxass where all the rill Umerikun parents misspel “homescool” and still contributeize to the Tammy Faye Bakker Mascaraization Fund.

    • beth says:

Somehow, I have a feeling our AKM would’ve had a much easier go of it reading a book written as above, than having to slog through the ‘rill’ one she got stuck with, Baker’s Dozen. beth.

—America by Heart (strike that: America by Ghostwriter) I think it’d be fair to say, is a gasser — it’s selling for $12.49, hardcover, on Amazon right now (down from $25.99); by contrast, ‘her’ first book is selling for $19.13, hardcover, (down from $28.99.) b.

      • Baker's Dozen says:

If by “gasser” you mean it stinks to high heaven, you’re right! Not even our bulldog could make something this stinky, and she was a room clearer! We always figured vermin didn’t stand a chance in our house, the dog killed ’em all.
Perhaps Palin should try fumigation services. She could go around and read a page from her book in each room of the house. Bugs gone. Just don’t light a match.

  15. Lainey says:

if a tree falls in the woods… if palin is in denial over her popularity…

  16. fishingmamma says:

A bit OT, but a good article about a Utah coal mine. Same conversation as the one about Pebble:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-redford/utah-approves-a-mine-next_b_795955.html

  17. Bev says:

She is just thinking she will run for Pres. if enough money is collected otherwise she will not run as she will never spend a dime of her own money on a run for the White House.

  18. Simple Mind says:

With all due respect to Mudflats’ wonderfully witty prose, I must confess that Mrs. Palin is becoming ……. well, boring. Her bone-headed publicity tour in Haiti was predictably vacuous. Somehow, the picture of her sitting all day in a concrete-floored warehouse store next to piles of marked down electric shavers and discount T-shirts on one of the busiest shopping days of the year and drawing less than 500 people, including gawkers, is appropriate. Palin has always had more in common with Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan than she does with any serious politician. What will be interesting is where her handlers will steer her next. She’ll always draw the noisy wackadoodle Far Right, and she could keep giving the same paid speeches at business conventions while the crowds dwindle and she winds up on Hollywood Squares. If she really wants into politics, she’ll need to steer back toward center to pick up some substance. That, however, would place her in the competitive arena of ideas, not where her talents lie. If she merely wants to stay in the headlights, she could keep careening further into Crazyland Right, which might account for her recent resurrection of the “death panel” nonsense. Kind of like watching a drunk driver – will she go into the ditch, cross the centerline or just keep weaving along?

    • Baker's Dozen says:

She’s always been boring. What’s fun about her is other’s comments. But she doesn’t do anything new, so the comments are getting old. She isn’t a one trick pony; she’s a half trick pony. And quitting isn’t even a good trick. It ranks in there with “sit!”

A peak into doggy school: “Sit Sarah! Sit! Hmmmm. Stay! Staaaayyyyy, Stay!!!!!!!! Ok. Let’s try your standard.Quit! Beg! Wow, Sarah! Those are your best tricks. Let’s work on sit and stay some more, shall we?”

I was afraid Haiti would disappear into the black hole she creates around her. They’re more resilient than I gave them credit for.

    • Lee323 says:

Palin has always been essentially boring. What has been interesting in a disturbing way is the sociological and media phenomenon surrounding her ascent as a celebrity. It’s a troubling indictment of the American press and public that such a shallow liar has gained and retained such extensive media exposure for so long.

During World War II, the cinema enjoyed a huge boom as people desperately wanted a diversion from the serious problems in the world. I suspect that interest in Palin serves a similar purpose during the tough economic/political times currently. It’s more entertaining to laugh at her latest gaffe, to be outraged at her latest bigoted tweet, or to engage in a flame war with her witless fans (who are also using her by nursing the delusion that she’s their immaculate savior during these tough times) than it is to dwell on our pressing and depressing problems in the country.

The ultimate irony is that she who is so skilled at exploitation (of herself, her family, the media) is being relentlessly and ruthlessly exploited by everyone else. She won’t know what hit her by the time all is said and done….and that time is rapidly approaching.

      • Simple Mind says:

I agree, Palin has always been intellectually boring. To continue with old TV analogies, Palin is like Judy Carne back on “Laugh-in” when she’d say “sock it to me” and get hit in the face with a pie. Kind of a giggle first time you saw it. Not so much the tenth time. About the same intellectual content as a Palin tweet. The fascination is, as you say, in the fact that anyone takes Palin seriously as anything more than an entertainer – someone who can’t name a major newspaper or magazine, a supreme court decision and is seemingly unaware that the United States has invested over a billion dollars in disaster aid in Haiti during the last 11 months before she went there. Her main political function now, as I can see, is to join her insane twin, Michelle Bachmann, in acting so outrageously that they push the “Right Wing Nutjob” index further to the right, making room for slightly less nutty people like Huckabee and Gingrich to seem reasonable in comparison.

    • Alas, Palin has no substance…..only love of self….people are tired of her selfishness, they want to se selfless-ness.

    • GoI3ig says:

  20. GreatGranny2C says:

Zyxomma – Glad to see that you are up and about and beginning to feel better!

On another topic – I have received the notification of my gift swap and I believe it to be the very best and most touching gift that I have ever received.

Many, many thanks to my special friend and fellow mudpup GRAMIAM – she made a donation in my name to K.I.N.D. and now one more child is off the floor and at a desk in Malawi.

For those who don’t know what I am referring to, Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC’s “Last Word” ran a segment on his summer vacation to Malawi and the fact that all of the children sit on dirt or concrete floors as there are no desks and chairs for students or teachers. In his infinite kindness, Lawrence made contact with UNICEF who then put him in touch with a local craftsman who could make the desks and chairs at a small cost of $48. Each desk and chair will seat at least two children, but given the lack of obesity amongst some of the poorest children in the world, most will hold three children. So for a mere $24, another child can be up off the floor, have a better chance of absorbing an education, and will know there are some Americans who truly care and can do something about the situation.

My family had been discussing Malawi last evening and how much we were going to donate when the message came in from Gramiam – like minds (and hearts) think alike! Thank you ever so much dear lady! This is the link to watch the video:

    • bubbles says:

      what a story! wow. ((((Grammi!)))))

    • Lawrence is something, isn’t he..? I think he’s a keeper…like Keith and Rachel and Ed…

      • I really do like Lawrence. Especially his tag line – you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. Now if they would just rerun Rachel later like they used to instead of Chris Mathews, I’d be a happy camper.

        • Waay Out West says:

Me too, they are all four nights a week here because of the time difference, it is all over before I even get home from work on Friday. Have a hard time watching Rachel anymore because of feeding livestock chores and cooking.

  22. Jim keating says:

    This is meant to be satirical and I would understand if you censor it;
in the ispirit of humor here goes:

It was reported: John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running
mate because she was the only candidate that would change his diaper.

Sarah was heard giving John good advise “ John you need to eat more
    fiber”.

  23. Lacy Lady says:

I see where our Rep. Senator Grassley voted against DADT. Doesn’t surprise me, when the Reps campaigned against the Gay marriage law in Iowa by getting rid of three of our Iowa judges who voted for it. Guess he and Vanerpoop are bed fellows!!
Don’t know about Grassley, but Vanderpoop never served in the armed forces.
This law has been long overdue. My husband’s cousin who is gay, served in the Navy during WW11. Didn’t hear anything against it back then.

  24. Lilybart says:

OT: I am beginning to wonder, is there something wrong with her that requires a family member with her at all times? The President does not do everything with Michele at his side, or his mother or kids. No one else does.

  25. Zyxomma says:

Still exhausted from the weird flu or whatever this is, but the 7 polls did bring me a smile.

  26. bubbles says:

if there is anyone who knows how to find out what the Twittering Tweet twittered about DADT yesterday i would like to know what, if anything, she twotted. also.

    • KJ in NC says:

Bubbles, Just when I thought it was impossible for anyone to come up with anything else creative with twittering, you have done it! “Twotted” is classic. Thank you for the laugh.

    • AKjah says:

“twotted” thats what i twot you said. Could some one twot that out too much.

  27. Baker's Dozen says:

There was an anti Obama rally on a busy street corner yesterday. It was raining, but because it’s almost a major gift giving holiday for most people here, the streets were very busy. The protesters had posters of Obama with a Charlie Chaplin mustache, literature to hand out, a poster of Obama in white face (interesting how they try to make that one somehow politically correct by calling it the joker) and so on. No one was stopping. No one was talking to them. They were holding up literature, calling out, trying to hand it to passers-by, but no one was biting.
There are republicans in this area. But instead of seeing Obama as a socialist Kenyan, they tend to just have the attitude “I’ve got mine and I’m gonna protect it. To heck with the rest of the country.”
When we get bummed out that Obama hasn’t kept all his promises or done things just the way we’d like, we have to remember that real reformers are up against tremendous opposition and it can take a lot of work just to get a little ways. They crucified Jesus, and they’ve killed Gandi, King, the Kennedys, jailed Tutu, and jailed and killed a whole lot that speak out in China and southeast Asia. Obama’s accomplished an awful lot despite the opposition being so vocal. DADT is quickly fading and he lost no political capitol and demonstrated the willingness of the country and military to take this on. Would we like it to be faster? Of course. But he has a whole country to bring along with him, not just us progressives. That’s what democracy is about.

    • leenie17 says:

I desperately hope that the new Congress can manage to change the filibuster rules. Imagine how much more could get done if bills could actually be debated and voted on, and if federal appointments could be filled within an appropriate time. It is shameful how the Republicans have used the filibuster to obstruct discussion and legislation in this Congress, especially when the holds are placed in secret and on appointments or bills that have strong bipartisan support. It’s a great strategy for the Repubs to have things both ways: prevent the President and the Democrats from passing legislation and to avoid taking responsibility for their own choices in a vote.

Let’s finally force these politicians to vote on bills and defend their votes to their constituents instead of anonymously blocking all discussion, voting and real accomplishment.

        Lennie,

Agreed 100% – I wish I had the magik elixir to make the media CALL OUT the LIARS of the Rethuggery Obstructionist Party of Teabagging Fewls for what they are — calling them “Congress” implies that it is both sides, when it only the Rethugs who are obstructionists. Hopefully, the Senate rules on filibuster will be changed and something will get done – how stoopid does one have to be to think there has been anything but obstructionism going on in the Senate?

My other hope is that one of these days soon the Snowbilly Grifter will get caught by the MSM saying something they HAVE TO PRINT and ANNOUNCE for all to see and maybe the Fewls who follow Snowbilly Grifter (the Pathetic Pack of Palinites) will see her for the haterfilled phony, shallow mean-girl for who and what she really is – a FEMINIST, omgz and ohnoes~the Fewl does not even know what a feminist is – the ignorance sends my blood pressure high and I do not have even have hypertension~

    • TX SMR says:

I talked about this w/my husband this morning. We were on our way to Starbucks after an early morning appointment, and he wanted to drive through a new neighborhood to look at the “architecture.” I didn’t. But he was at the wheel, so we did.

The houses are huge and, to me, ugly. Mainly look the same. Tons of them like it around here.

Anyway, when we were driving out of the neighborhood I told him that it makes me sick to look at those houses, that I cannot stand to see those huge huge houses that cost so much money knowing that a huge majority of the people who live in them (given our location) begrudge children, sick & elderly a penny for health care, talk crap about immigrants while having them do their lawns every week for $20, etc etc. I told him that when I look at those neighborhoods I see everything that is wrong with society, politics and the US these days — I have mine, too bad for you, because you can’t have any.

I’m sure that there are many great people who live in those houses. I do understand that. But the glaring excess, the entitlement, I can’t stand it. Not now, not while there are so many in this state, in this country, that don’t give a darn about anyone but themselves. While unemployment is high, companies not hiring while their profits are as high as they’ve ever been.

Gah! Now I’ve got to stop thinking about it or I’ll get depressed!

Now I’m off to take our little one to her lessons…

      • Eykis says:

        SMR,

Forgive me for not knowing, but are you in Big D or Houston or somewhere else in Tejas? Sounds a whole lot like North Dallas.

        • sallyngarland,tx says:

Sounds like East Texas to me.

        • TX SMR says:

I’m in a suburb of Houston. My husband’s office is about 3 miles away. If it weren’t I wouldn’t be caught dead living here. As it is last night part of our conversation w/our delightful Scottish tablemate was about moving when our lease is up. We’re supposed to be moving overseas next fall, but I’m not holding my breath.

It’s an incredibly overprivileged area. Of course our house is pretty dumpy compared to most here — we went for the big pool and yard vs. the big house, the neighborhood is one of the first in this area, early 80s, and the house we’re leasing hasn’t had much done to it since then! But I don’t have to put up with the botox & blingy oil wives driving Escalades with Perry bumperstickers. So it works for me.

          • sallyngarland,tx says:

I know a couple of people who live in Spring,TX -Houston suburb, and it is ultra conservative and they do looove Rick Perry. Lots of money, too.

I know how you feel. I lived in East Texas, home of terror baby Louie Gohmert, while my son went to college. Oh, my(!!!) is all I can say. It was super conservative and I was so glad to leave. Sorry if there are any East Texans on board because I don’t want to offend anyone. OFA for Obama is a good way to meet progressives.

I was shocked awhile back when I mentioned Sarah Palin to someone and she said “Who is that?” Shocked me. It is hard to believe–but I thought she was kind of lucky not to have had the mind bending experience of Palin. She said she avoids all politics and doesn’t vote. I can’t join her because I have to vote but wish I’d never heard the name.

          • NOLA says:

OK, I’m curious, which ‘burb? I’m in the clear lake area at the moment and I’m thinking you’re in the woodlands for some reason (oil field, 80’s homes being old). Both areas have had huge growth in the last 20ish yrs. If you’re in the south of Houston, there’s a women democrats group, can’t recall the exact name at the moment, but google would find them. Bay Area Women Democrats or some such. Hard to type and switch around a lot on the phone. 🙂

      • Dagian says:

Around here, we call them “McMansions”.

In some areas you see these huge houses on tiny plots of land. Ultimately, people spend 800K and more to look into the next door neighbour’s bathroom. Sometimes they’re plastic-fantastic homes with 2-3 acres of grass to mow (and owning farm animals or horses is not permitted due to zoning).

        Unreal.

      • Thank you…your decent, caring nature comes through loud and clear…to care about other people who are hurting and struggling is wonderfull, and.. well……you are most likely NOT a republican…..

      • jojobo1 says:

Keep remembering the ones that do help,Clinton,Bush and Obama with the money they gave to Hatti and other charities and the 11 millionaires who promised to give one million to charity.I know it also helps them but it is still all good unless it is going to someone like Franklin or the Grahams. IMO neither are worth sending money to.

  28. GoI3ig says:

The polls reflect the trend. So does the turn out at Dimond Costco yesterday. Costco rented porta-potties, and they weren’t necessary. There wasn’t enough people to make them necessary. Costco promised the “first 500” a signed book.

That was an easily kept promise since fewer that that showed up. I suggest she stage her next signing at Wasilla Walmart. She is more likely to find a mob of Palinbots roaming the aisles.

I so miss living in Calgary. So so so so so miss it. I miss my Calgary Herald too.

However, Martinuk is a shameless grifter wannabe — she wrote the most disgusting fawning pieces of crap. They would make me want to vomit, stomp on my paper and scream. One of them inspired a letter to the editor. It’s like palin is her idol, when she grows up she wants to be palin blah blah blah.

And sad to say that in my world using the term Obamacare is an epic fail. I wish the letter writer understood that denigrating the death panel usage and using that term make him look quite confused and of questionable intelligence himself.

However, here in TX, last night I had the most hilarious conversation ever with a fellow party-goer at my husband’s company xmas dinner. He was saying he wants Arnold to be on the ticket for the R’s, and can’t they change that natural-born citizen thing (before you get horrified, he was saying this facetiously), like after Obama’s term is over we whip out the real true Kenyan birth certificate and say “see we’ve set the precedent, throw out that stupid law…” And then we went on to have a hilarious Palin or Perry discussion — i.e. stupid evil president or smart evil president, who does the most damage… It was really entertaining. Highlight of my night (except for dancing with my husband for the first time in 6 years!). Sadly, I cannot say that this was an enlightened Texan, I have finally found one, yay ——– the fella I was talking to is Scottish…

      • G Katz says:

The term “Obamacare” seems here to stay. Eventually, I think it will be taken positively, but by then, the Republicans will probably find a way to take credit for it. I wonder if the Dems would start to use the term positively, like when they talk about the good points of the bill, if it would backfire for the righties using it negatively.

        • benlomond2 says:

as will the term”Deathpanels”… I find it interesting that Sarah coined the phrase to accuse some one else of what HER adminstration had done to seniors in denying care for them… and that another Republican Govenor is doing the same thing to citizens of her own State in Arizona’s Gov Brewer…

      • Elsie says:

SMR, I’m a Texan, too….and I know at least three more who are progressive, so, with you, that makes at least five of us.

        Woo-hoo!!

        • Alaska Pi says:

(ah… some of us know you are an Alaskan who just hasn’t moved here yet 🙂 )
          you 2 should meet up…
since I know both of you I also know Texas would never be the same since the pup-power squared you both have would blind the whole state should you gather together and work and laugh and build…

          • fawnskin mudpuppy says:

            amen to that, pi

but do ya really thing there’s enough room in that ittybitty state for the great one who is elsie and another like minded soul?

          • Zyxomma says:

Sorry to butt in, but I think a *lot* of us are Alaskans who haven’t moved up there yet. One of the things that gives me pause (apart from so little sunlight during winter, and finding work) is the preponderance of RWNJs, dominionist “Christians” and political policies that are downright cruel to women and children. I know there are absolutely amazing people in AK (just look at this blog!), but the Lease-A-Murkowskys, Joe Millers, and Sarah Palins of this world seem to flourish up north. Extractive industries also hold sway.

Still, the natural beauty of your state tempts me more than I can say.

          • Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Elsie, get up here dammit! Come visit in the summer next time and we’ll have even more fun!

          • Alaska Pi says:

            Zyxomma-
You run right up over the top of the fruitloops and right on by… tis the way to keep your eye on the scenery without distractions. Can’t be wasting your time getting bogged down with each rut in the road… besides most of the state doesn’t have roads so there’s plenty of places to enjoy without encountering fruitloops around every corner.
Also too- pretty much all western states have ongoing battles with dueling extraction resource stuff and renewables like fish… nothing new, pain in the patoot to sort out but nothing new.
Am thinking your city has more lulubirds than we do … ours just show up on the horizon better.less cover…
People are people the world over , lulubirds are pretty much a statistical certainty everywhere…

            oh… fawnskin . I never thought about that. Might be a problem…
Well- they’d change the whole Southwest, eh? 🙂

        • Eykis says:

Hey, Hey fellow Texans – Eykis is a multi-generational, born and bred Dallasite – from a family Real Women Libbers – my 98 yro Grany and my 80 yro Mom still do as much as they can possibly do to discredit Dubya and GoodHair – if you happened to see the Dubya groundbreaking for the Institute of Stoopidity – at SMU, a VERY LIBERAL university, the “old grey-haired ladies” were my Mom and her cronies. SMU is in the neighborhood.

In 1985 there was a huge anti-choice protest going on and I happened to be visiting at my Grandmother’s house and she demanded we go down to the protest – and the good Catholic lady YELLED at all the men and used her famous line, “If men could get pregnant, abortions would be FREE” and slapped a couple young priests around and embarassed more than a few of the other anti-choicers – she is Texan that way.

          • overthemoon says:

            SMU is Liberal???

          • nanindallas says:

            Thanks Eykis,

From the local newscoverage you would think all here are repubs. Whenever they mention a protest they imply it’s only a few crazies who are doing the protesting. It’s like we are invisible and not worth talking about.

          • TX SMR says:

Last Sunday I met a great guy at Starbucks and we had the Houston vs. Dallas conversation, as in which is more conservative. He said that Dallas is much more conservative than Houston. Is that true?

I could use meeting some nice ladies who know how to verbally smack down anti-choice protestors.

But mainly I just bide my time here in TX, waiting for our next gig, where it will take us, and hoping it won’t be OK or LA. Or AK. Sorry AK Pi, my friend, but unless I could move to Juneau (which would never happen in our line of business), you’d have to drag me back to AK by my hair, kicking & screaming the whole way. In the interim I get to talk to my husband, who is quite sane and wonderful, and any others that I stumble across.

On the positive side I did hear a couple in Starbucks today talking about how stupid palin is. Our 5 yr old heard them too and said “sarah palin is stupid and mean and she lies and she should go to jail.” Do you think perhaps she has picked up that from us? Remember back during election time when I told the story about her, when she was angry with me and said “when I grow up I am going to name my daughter sarah palin!” — in her little 3-yr-old mind that was the most horrible thing she could think to say to a me, like it would cut me to the bone. My husband and I laughed our heads off. Most 3 yr olds would call someone a poo poo head or something, but ours is more likely to say “you’re a liar like sarah palin!” or “you’re stupid & mean like sarah palin!” Which probably wouldn’t go over very well with some of the parents if they were within earshot, but fortunately her teacher says she is a “model student” and “the sweetest little thing” so we don’t worry too much about her going around calling people sarah palin. One of the sweetest pictures ever is of our little one & another little girl holding up an Obama sign at a rally in Anchorage. I just love that photo. Both my girls getting out & supporting hope & change with their mum (dad was already off in Canada by then).

            Good times.

          • Eykis says:

Dallas as well as the Texas that has been on the teevee machine since Dubya beat Ann Richards IS NOT the REAL TEXAS or the REAL DALLAS. The DeLay gerrymandering has messed it up beyond all recognition. Sad, but true.

DeLay and Gramm, along with Dubya managed to use their influence to make the nation believe Texas is “a whole other country” in the BAD SENSE – not the way it truly is – the Austin mindset.

Hopefully, for everyone’s peace of mind, that will be changed in the new districting – may not with the FEWLS elected to the state house this year. I am amazed at the stoopidity and Texasevangeliban created by Dubya and GoodHair.

But then again, I am completely amazed that I live outside Nashville in the district of the Faux Noise blonde, Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) – who put up NOT ONE sign in the gerrymandered district. The south is so backward one would think it is 1955. Makes me wonder what happened to all the enlightened folks I went to college with in the early-mid 70s. But hey, I was in Austin.

There’s no reply button on Alaska Pi’s comment, so I’m posting it here instead. You’re right, we have far more fruitloops and other assorted crazypersons here than in AK, but that’s only because we have 8 million people in our city — 50,000 in my little neighborhood alone, and I live in a shtetl, compared to the population density in other neighborhoods where there are more high rise buildings. I do live in a bastion of left wing Democrats, which is very comfortable, and I love letting others (bus drivers, cabbies, train drivers) do the driving. Probably what I like best about my neighborhood is that I can walk to everything I need. Within minutes of home, I have health food stores, live food and other vegan, vegetarian, and vegan-friendly restaurants, three greenmarkets, fun gift shops, theatres for movies and plays, and right on my block are two community gardens. It’s a great place to live, and the rent is low for my top floor tenement.

However, I *really* love skywatching, and have to leave town to do it. I adore the quiet that comes with being in the wild. Perhaps the reason I haven’t visited Alaska (other than 20 minutes at an airport in the 1970s) is that I’m afraid that, once there, I’d never want to leave!!

I’m in the Dallas area. I know quite a few Dems/Progressives. TX, and those of us who live here, get bashed alot because of Bush who isn’t a native Texan and Perry who used to be a Democrat until it was convenient to be a Repub.

With all this blog reading of the thought provoking posts here that do not involve Ms. Todd Palin, it took me till day seven to get AKM ‘s first day of Christmas ‘and a dead fish on my teevee’–it references Sarah’s gift that keeps on giving from 2009–ONLY DEAD FISH GO WITH THE FLOW.

    • thatcrowwoman says:

      hahahaha caw Caw CAW!

    • Elsie says:

Hey, dowl, that’s an old saying. I guess Palin just wrote it on her hand long enough to remember to say it out loud once by herself. At least two Texas humorists and political writers, Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower, have used that saying, in years past…

    • Baker's Dozen says:

If only dead fish go with the flow, then just how to baby salmon make it back to the ocean? Hmmmm? Well? I’m waiting.
Yes, I know they swim. But they swim with the flow, now don’t they? The question is, do you use the flow to your advantage to make achieving your goal easier, or do you just let it push you around because you have no goal to achieve?

      • UgaVic says:

You use the flow to get to where you can grow and thrive UNTIL you are big and strong enough to join with the many others to fight your way back up stream to help make the next generation possible 🙂

You see that they get the very best start you can…..and thank your stars you are not part of SP1’s family!!
