Happy Birthday, Sarah! Surpriiiiise!

OK, everyone. Hide behind the couch! Shhhhh! Sarah’s coming! It’s her birthday, and we’re going to give her a little surprise. This is going to be awesome! She’ll never suspect. (I clamp my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing in anticipation of the shock that is about to ensue) This is the last thing in the world she’ll see coming.  Here. Here’s the note that explains everything! (I shove a crumpled email printout into your hand and tell you my comments will be in red)

I’m writing today in hopes that you will take just one minute right now to help me plan a special surprise for Governor Sarah Palin in honor of her birthday on Friday by giving a gift to SarahPAC today.

Isn’t that cool? Cash from her own PAC! It’s the best birthday gift EVER! And she will totally not suspect it’s coming. She’s completely in the dark.

Your gift will be a welcome surprise on Sarah’s birthday, especially in the wake of the increasingly vicious attacks from her enemies on the Left.

For example, Hollywood writer Aaron Sorkin recently wrote a column denouncing Governor Palin as “deranged,” a “witless bully,” and a “phony pioneer girl.”

I can’t even imagine the pain and hurt that this bully Hollywood writer must have caused the poor thin-skinned former ex-half-governor. “Phony pioneer girl?” I’ll have you know there are all kinds of Alaskans who wear improper footwear, and can’t shoot a gun, and cling to the sides of mountains without knowing what to do, and gently club halibut to death with perfectly manicured hands.

Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey said “the intelligence of the American public” will keep Sarah from ever being elected President.

(*Note – When the most successful, and beloved woman in America calls your ‘candidate’ an idiot, don’t use that.)

And MSNBC’s Chris Matthews called her a “balloon head” on national TV.

A “balloon head?” I’m outraged, as every decent American should be. This hideous hurtful rhetoric must end!  And the only way to soothe this wound to Sarah’s big balloon head is to give cash. Yes, cash – and plenty of it.

Just like Ronald Reagan before her, Governor Palin is despised by the Left because she freely admits her faith in God, is unabashedly proud of America, and fights to limit the long arm of the federal government when it comes to our freedoms and our families.

Yup. You found us out. We hate her because she loves God and her country and freedom and families. And if she were in a shampoo ad from the 1980s, we’d “hate her because she was beautiful.”

Sarah Palin is proud of America – not ashamed of our greatness.
She puts her trust in the U.S. Constitution – not in politicians.
She thinks you should get to choose your own doctor, what kind of car you drive, and what kind of light bulbs you’ll use in your house – not government bureaucrats.

Where does she stand on seat belts, bike helmets, and second hand smoke? How about the government telling you whom you can marry, or what to do with your uterus? Just wondering.

She’s willing to fight the War on Terror – not surrender it to enemies abroad and Islamic radicals right here on our own soil who hate us. (Muslims bad)
And she understands that cutting taxes and repealing ObamaCare will do more to strengthen our economy than handing out billions in “bail-out” (Bell-out if you’re putting it in quotes) dollars to businesses and people who didn’t earn it. (Like the $1200 energy rebate she handed out as governor?)
Frankly, Sarah Palin is a threat to liberals who make their living off of a bloated, out-of-control federal government.

That’s why they attack her. It’s why they call her names. Why they want her to fail.

And it’s why I’m counting on you to give a gift to SarahPAC for Governor Palin today to let her know that you are still standing by her side in the face of these relentless attacks.

Forget those “You go girl!” messages on Twitter. Forget your “We have your back!” promises on Facebook. If you really really love her, you’ll send her some cold hard cash. That and that alone will prove your love and make people stop calling her Balloon Head, and Phony Pioneer Girl, and Quitter Queen, and Ex-Half-Governor, and Grifter Gov, and Para Sailin, and the Witch of Wasilla, and WasillaBilly, and … all those other ones.

Nothing is more important to Sarah right now than (CASH!!!) making sure SarahPAC has the funds it needs to help elect more common-sense conservatives in 2011, including candidates in critical state races, special elections, and run-offs.

That’s right. Your donation will go to further the conservative cause. And by “furthering the conservative cause” they may or may not mean staying in luxury hotels, or de-icing the wings of her private jet.

Three crucial governor races alone will make this a key year for conservatives.

Can Sarah count on you to help her elect lawmakers who will obey the U.S. Constitution, not re-write it?

If so, please send your best gift possible to help SarahPAC continue the conservative revolution we started in 2010.

That’s right. No token donation from you. We want the most you can possibly give. Turn that wallet upside down and shake that sucker for its last dime. The revolution demands it.

I want you to know how much I appreciate your taking the time to help me honor Governor Palin on her birthday this week. And more importantly, thank you for your patriotism and your willingness to step forward and help her support pro-Constitution candidates now when so much is at stake for our nation!

Yours truly,

Tim Crawford
Treasurer, SarahPAC

OK, remember now that this is a total surprise. She has no idea that her PAC has been begging for dollars for her birthday. So don’t ruin it. Just bust out the credit card and prove your patriotism.

SURPRISE!

I thought her nick-name was “The Baccilla from Wasilla”.

  2. kiksadi50 says:

I still don’t understand why making it a law to require license plates & car insurrance is ok,& requiring people to have health insurrance is Big Brother telling us what to do.I have to register my car,but registering a gun is an infringement of my rights.I have to have a drivers license but we should get rid of safety standards for carcinogenic transmissions.I really don’t get the logic of all of these mixed messages.

    • Cammie says:

Well, the point is to distract us with trying to parse all their senseless logic while they make off with this country’s kit and caboodle. Next up: the mass transfer of our Social Security trust fund to the Wall Street casino. I’ve stopped trying to refute the crazy claims of the rightwing and started throwing some claims at them and put them on the defense for a change. Of course, our claims about them are true. They really are out to get the poor and middle class in this country, the craven heathens.

    Beth,

Please take a deep breath. Couldn’t be sure if you are in Chicago, or somewhere between here and there. Chicago is one of my most favorite cities. Alaska is my most favorite place.

I’ll just say this one more time. Educate yourself, and your neighbors, family and friends, thru out your area. Here in Anchorage, Alaska we learned today who the candidates are for our City Council. There is a similar meme: conservative/religeous, progressive/choices, republican/scared, independent/scared,
    non-affiliated/scared.

City Council decides the cost of living in the ‘Anchorage Bowl’.

I may comment later. Now we know the ballot.

    Thanx, nem

    re: #47, A Fan From Chicago, and $’s latest Tweet — http://twitter.com/SarahPalinUSA/status/36171323721908224

This has to be one of the ‘uglier’ and most ignorant Tweets she’s sent out. Ever! Is she singling out the word “constructive” because she’s of a mind that the low-key, consistent, *respectful* pressure POTUS exerted on Mubarak (since the uprising started 18-days ago!) was *not* constructive? What did she want — the 101st Airborne dropped in on the Presidential Palace on day four?

Has she *not* listened to the voices coming out of Egypt; the voice of Mubarak saying the uprising was instigated and agitated by “outsiders” and the voices of the *people* saying the revolution was solely *their* revolution?

Has she *any* idea what would happen if POTUS had harangued Mubarak? What would happen if he now started haranguing Ahmadinejad (and the real ruling powers of the country) to “change & allow freedom” in Iran? Any idea how the leaders of *other* nations in the area would react knowing the US could just as well unilaterally and openly meddle in *their* sovereign affairs as $arah, apparently, wants POTUS to do in Iran? My G_d!

Does she have the slightest inkling of how volatile, what a tinder box, the whole friggin’ area is — how terribly carefully the US has to tread so what little freedoms the *people* do have are not clamped down on, further? [Hello, $arah — people suffering to various degrees under dictators, autocrats, and iron-fisted rulers? Ring a bell?]

Does she really think the media should badger POTUS into putting pressure on Iran’s leaders (or any *other* leaders) to just cede power — does she see herself as Captain Picard and the media –the media she b1tches about all the time for being mean to her– as Commander Riker; as Picard who turns to his second-in-command, Riker, and says: “Make it so, Number One”? Sweet Yeebus!

Sure would’ve been nice if she’d somehow found time in her busy schedule to Tweet congratulations to the people of Egypt for peacefully throwing off the oppressive yoke of Mubarak’s 30-year dictatorship. Been nice if she’d encouraged the Egyptian people via Tweet as they go forward in forging freedom in their country. Hell, I’d even forgiven her a: “Thks 4 the brthday prsnt, Egypt – your peaceful transition from oprssion to freedom is bst gift I cld get!” But…no. Not $arah — she just *had* to mean-girl POTUS and this administration; just *had* to give her ‘back-door’, expert advice to POTUS on how the US should handle the middle-East; just *had* to, as my late MiL would say, “show her adz.”.

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Sorry for the rant. I feel better now for having ranted it; my apologies that it was ranted at all’a’y’all.

Can’t help it, though; imho, she is –to put it mildly– an idiot and an adz. So, yeah, my heartfelt wishes to her on her birthday: I hope your ridiculous bumpit melts from the heat of all the candles on your cake, and that every single calorie of the entire cake, goes straight to your already-‘iffy’ ankles. Permanently. beth.

PS – If you couldn’t tell, she gets on my absolute last nerve.

I neglected to give my Birthday wishes to our birthday girl so here is my gift…….A moment in history that proved that Sarah has foreign political creds. Enjoy……..

Happy 47th Sarah! Remember and enjoy. These videos will NEVER go away. There are so many more. This is just one of my personal favorites.

Happy Birthday Sarah Palin! Thinking of you and your capacity for fame, I fondly remember your interview a short while ago with the French President Sarkozy:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN3KUXWppNs

    You were brilliant.

  8. scout says:

Golly, AKM, you had me at, “stop calling her Balloon Head, and Phony Pioneer Girl, and Quitter Queen, and Ex-Half-Governor, and Grifter Gov, and Para Sailin, and the Witch of Wasilla, and WasillaBilly, and ….”

I hand the WGE a popcorn-ball for her birthday.

  9. Star says:

    Great read AKM…

  10. seattlefan says:

AKM, I love your red pen and the brilliant humor and insight that emanates from it. 🙂

  11. DF says:

Well, her Treasurer has adopted her victimization language, that’s for sure. Does she or her comrades ever put out a plain, logical, positive, statement to the nation?

She and Donald Trump ought to get married and run for president together. They both put out the same rhetoric: Me, me, me, me, me, me. It’s all about ME!

  12. A Fan From Chicago says:

Oh God. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water….she Tweeted.
    http://twitter.com/sarahpalinusa

I would put good money on her not being able to find Egypt on a map. But that won’t stop her from thinking her opinion matters.

    • overthemoon says:

can you imagine how dangerous she’d be in any capacity in the capitol? i wonder if she understands the differences between Iran and Egypt at all.

    • dreamgirl says:

Please don’t post her tweets anywhere. She doesn’t need anymore platforms (unless it leads to a guillotine) to broadcast her insanity.

On a lighter note,Chicago was lovely today!

    • Pinwheel says:

Watching the Egyptian experience during the last couple of weeks, makes me feel prouder than ever that I am an American.

I believe most importantly for us m’pups we shall persevere, we shall educate and train ourselves and perhaps others. I have a bumper sticker that says, (therefore it must be true): “We are the powers that be”.

Regardless of Bubba and Bubba. I am not ready to give this leadership away.

  13. Millie says:

Just saw where someone involved w/Sarah’s Alaska reality show is asking the State of Alaska for tax credits – which is being asked for ‘after the fact’ in my estimation. Alaskan taxpayers money and Palin walked away making millions. She never misses a beat, does she. Would expect the Parnell Administration to vote their approval of the request. This needs to be followed.

  14. CorningNY says:

AKM, your writing gets better all the time. This post literally made me laugh out loud…especially the line, “And if she were in a shampoo ad from the 1980s, we’d “hate her because she was beautiful.””

Thank you, and keep up the good work!

    • Can’t we just dislike the heck out of her on general principles?

      • Pinwheel says:

Only if you are registered to vote in your caucus. If you really care, get out there and remind your neighbors, family, co-workers to register, participate, speak out, vote. Otherwise, we have not voice.

  15. DudleysPa says:

Uh Oh! I just noticed that today’s date, written in the “rest-of-the-world” way of mm-dd-yyyy is 11-02-2011, which is a palindrome. Coincidence or a sign of the apocalypse?

  16. aussiegal77 says:

Happy Birthday to Sarah Palin – may this be the year you finally get rid of all the media scrutiny you despise and be able to go back to Wasilla and live a quiet life with your family!

    =D

  17. Blooper says:

Someone ought to tell Mr. Crawford that Sarah is not the Governor anymore. Oh and God bless AKM and her red pen!

  18. LibertyLover says:

Three crucial governor races alone will make this a key year for conservatives.
Can Sarah count on you to help her elect lawmakers who will obey the U.S. Constitution, not re-write it?

Uh… If you want to elect conservative governors, why not just donate directly to these governors and leave out the middle(wo)man?

  19. Mo says:

Why anyone still claiming to be a Republican is supporting sedition and a return to the 19th century:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/11/opinion/11krugman.html?_r=1&ref=opinion

But the facts don’t matter, because conservative hard-money mania, the demand that the Fed stop trying to rescue the economy, isn’t really about inflation fears.

Wednesday’s hearings aren’t likely to have any immediate effect on monetary policy. But they offer a revealing — and appalling — look at the mind-set of one of our two major political parties. We’ve always known that the modern G.O.P. wants to take America back to the way it was before the New Deal; but now it’s clear that the party wants to build a bridge to the 19th century, and maybe even to the antebellum era. Backward, march!

    • Pinwheel says:

      Thanx Mo:

All those mixed messages may get someone to moderate a concensus building opportunity. Wow, doesn’t that sound naive? Perhaps, but really, who are those guys trying to save? Not me.

Might be that we need that great leap of faith!!! ? (no derision here, just the concept). Let those political churches pay fair real estate taxes and sales taxes as applicable. We are paying for their work product, turn the FBI loose on RICO for Jesus. And don’t forget what has happened in the Bush. Welfare ghettos because nobody cared. Check the upper Copper River.

      Old news, sorry Denise.

‘fraid I have to agree with ‘Dreamgirl’. Huff ington Post becomes suspicious as did NBC. We should be used to this, remember when Ted Turner sold out.

Don’t ever forget that Bill Clinton let this happen in the last years of his years in office. He gave away our airspace. We shall pay the price over and over and over again.

  21. bubbles says:

Former Vice President Dick Cheney didn’t get the warmest welcome at this year’s CPAC conference, as at least one rambunctious member of the audience greeted him with heckles of “war criminal” and “murdering scum.” Making a surprise appearance at the conference to introduce former defense secretary. (that was from Huffington Post.)

roh roh. could it be? could it be she ain’t welcomed there? i mean if they booed Big Dick Cheney……
oh well who knows she could be there and will speak her salad and it won’t matter. because we don’t care. like the Egyptian people chanted GO OUT!.

    • London Bridges says:

Now that it appears that the people of Egypt may have succeeded, democracy should come to the USA. I suggest one-issue rallies in every town square: Try and convict Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Bush for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Once this happens and succeeds, we will get others’ attention, and things will fall into place.

      • bubbles says:

        exactly.

      • Pinwheel says:

A great idea. However, can we visualize a non-violent anything in our country. Egypt seems to understand the power and effectiveness of non-violence. I don’t think that my country understands that at all.

  22. Cammie says:

A lot of the donations she gets are from single donors, in small amounts. Which leads me to believe that many of these people probably can’t really afford to donate to a PAC. I find it fascinating that they will part with what little money they have to fund a very rich woman’s propensity to travel in style. If they stopped for a moment to think about this, they would see how their donations aren’t funding her ability to “speak out” on behalf of their beliefs. She’s already paid by Fox to speak the rightwing talking points, and the other mediums she uses – Twitter and Facebook – don’t cost anything at all. Best I can tell, the 2010 candidates she rallied for in person paid for her to be there, like the (failed) Georgia governor candidate who shelled out $100K for Palin to get there via private jet.

    Well, a fool and his/her money…

    • Terpsichore says:

You got it. They’ll send her $20 or $50 they really can’t afford, and turn around and scream they shouldn’t have $1.26 of their taxes go to fund PBS/NPR (even when they watch/listen to the programs). They scream government is so inefficient, and yet they will send $20 or $50 to a PAC, justifying it by saying “well, the money will go for a cause I believe in”, when in fact, particularly in the case of SarahPAC, the majority of the money goes to everything but supporting candidates.

All you have to do is look at the raw data collected by the FEC or a summary write-up to see that SarahPACs ratio of candidate contributions to money spent on expenses and administration of the PAC is still at an abyssmal 1:9 (or thereabouts). In otherwords, still about 10% of what dear granny donated and could really not afford to part with went to the cause she wanted it to go for. If she donated 50 bucks, less than $10 got to like-minded candidates. The other $40 paid Sarah and Co.’s pricy travel, and paid her ghostwriters, and other expenses which, if really looked at, and if anyone in the orginazation actually cared about being a fiscal conservative, they would have found tons of ways to do the same job for a lot less money. SarahPAC is a huge money-wasting machine.

I always remind people – don’t donate to PACs or parties (and I encourage all of you to do the same! Always donate directly to the official campaign fund of the people you would like to see elected.

    • beth says:

Folks, the good folks making the small donations, don’t know (or want to know) about the pricy habits of their fav gal. She’s told them she’s just like them: family-loving, G_d-loving, Amurica-loving, “troop”-loving. That’s all that matters to them. They donate what they can because they truly believe she is ‘just like’ them; they figure that’s all they need to know . And, accepting that, they know since they are (financially) hurting, she must be, too…so, all neighborly-like and kindly-like, they rearrange their budget, forego something they’d normally get, and send in their $10 or $15. The booger of it is, I don’t think $arah has a clue in the ever-lovin’-world, about the sacrifices these poor (literally) souls are making for her sorry adz. beth.

  23. bubbles says:

so where is the birfday gurl today? why i thought she would surely be the keynote speaker at CPac. n’est pas? oh well i suppose it could be that she is sunning her precious self on Murdoch’s yacht at Beluga Point watching Putin and the occasional whale pass by. or it might be she is having a rill birfday with the family on the cement slab. eating birfday cake and sipping Bailey’s while fishing at Lake Dead Lucille.
oh and by the way the producer for her reality series as turned in her application for money from the good people of Alaska for that eight part soap opera/political farce called Sarah Palin Does Alaska. happy birfday all around i ‘d say.

  24. Zyxomma says:

In honor of Edison’s birthday (and quitty’s, also, too), I just made a donation to The Mudflats (my first, because as many of you know, I went through a couple of years of hard times since the accident, and yes, I’m pretty much all healed). I raise my glass to our intrepid (and humorous) leader, and look forward to the day when WGE gets her due (as I imagine handcuffs, orange jumpsuit, etc.). Perhaps she’ll be carted off to the same federal prison where Bernie Madoff is living out the rest of his days.

    • AKM-A donation to the Mudflats is a splendid idea. Personal check on the way. To steal Quitty’s thunder, today will be known in my house as Clover’s B-Day/Egypt Freedom Day and the ex half-guv can suck a lemon.

Just a quick clarification of another Birthday Beg item meant to bolster $arah’s ‘creds’, please…

When the Beg asks: “Can Sarah count on you to help her elect lawmakers who will obey the U.S. Constitution, not re-write it?“, is it talking about keeping out lawmakers who are against the idea of repealing the 14th Amendment; against the idea of the State –individually or collectively– selecting which Federal rules, regulations, and laws it wishes to comply with; against the idea that America is synonymous –only!– with Christianity; and against the idea that there needs to be DOMA-ish Amendment to said Constitution?

Are those the un-Amurican, un-patriotic, Constitution-hating, G-dless lawmakers a donation to $arahPac will keep out of office? A little clarification, please… beth.

  38. Cammie says:

When is the IRS going to crack down on these fraudelent rightwing PACs?? It is so clear that they operate mainly to funnel money to dubious “marketing” consultants and to fund lavish travel and accommodations. Not just Palin’s PAC, either…if you look at the FEC docs on Jim DeMint’s PAC, Gingrich’s PAC, the Tea Party Express’s PAC…the same kind of spending appears over and over. I still can’t get over how the Tea Party Express’s PAC gets away with sending most of it’s money back to its founder’s consulting firm.

It is very discouraging to see such grift openly and arrogantly flaunted in broad daylight. I can only hope that behind the scenes the IRS is actually conducting some serious investigations and will eventually pull the plug on this.

    • bubbles says:

i don’t know Cammie. we shouldn’t forget that many bureaucrats in IRS and most other agencies were hired by Republican masters over the last years. these people don’t leave when administrations change and they are very difficult to weed out. some of these folks i suspect are keeping their heads down and working slow. shuffling papers, looking busy and waiting for a change back to the status quo.

Just wanted to point out that the IRS only enforces the rules that are passed. Plus there are fewer of them, spread out over a larger population. Much as they may wish to investigate everyone who doesn’t pass their individual smell-test, they can’t.

Individual IRS employees can get fired for looking at any individual’s tax returns if they do not have a reason to do so (job-related). There have been people fired for doing just that (sneaking looks at celebrities filings, etc.).

Due to CR’s and budget cuts, the IRS actually has seen a reduction in numbers. The Congress even went back to the future when they authorized bounty hunters to chase down tax scofflaws (this happened about 20 years ago), but people were properly outraged that this was contracted out to (overall) some very sketchy people who were not subject to privacy laws, etc.

        • Sarafina says:

I’m appalled at all the churches that preach politics and support or condemn candidates that retain tax-exempt status. From the Roman Catholics to the Community Church of Ignorant White Trash, I think a lot of hate speech would be shut down in churches if the IRS started looking.

          • Dagian says:

I agree (and I’m thinking of one place in particular in Alaska!). But to be honest, I don’t actually feel comfortable with granting tax-exemption status to religious organizations at all. Any of them.

I have no problem with mission-specific organizations that don’t find themselves paying dues to a particular religious organization in order to use their name (Catholic, Episcopal, etc.).

Humane society of (county)? Sure! Planned Parenthood? Absolutely! Civil War Trust? Bring it on! Etc.

It makes me very uncomfortable to see donations to PACs and religions. Despite donating money to my Episcopal church, I still find it very discomforting writing it off. (Yet I do choose to write it off, as the IRS still permits me this luxury. Which is completely two-faced of me, but practical.)

          • Cammie says:

My own church doesn’t get political at all, but does a lot of stuff in our community, including giving people direct relief to pay their bills. They also have a cancer assistance fund, donate money to different elderly homes, put together backpacks so low income children have food to eat on the weekends, deliver food to shut ins…they’re doing a lot of stuff. And the church is barely able to make budget needs right now. Having to pay taxes would sharply curb a lot of the above charity work they are doing.

Now, there are churches that get downright political…I’ve attended one, and ultimately left because I hated their rightwing politics. But they too did a lot of charitable work in the community. Unlike PACs, which clearly are ALL political and don’t do anything close to charity.

      • Pinwheel says:

Many more Federal, State and Local employees, the “bureaucrats” are more than likely ‘civil servants’. In upper echelons of government agencies remainder and carryover, even maybe politically connected appointees may still hang around if they can talk the current talk. To blame any of our individual problems with the IRS, or any bureaucracy, is disingenuous. Most of these employees are doing a job. They applied to work within the Federal (state/local, etc), for whatever reason. These employees did not make the rules. Those rules were instigated by elected folks, like Mayors, City Councils, Governors, State Legislators, Presidents, Congresses of the United States.

These are choices that each of us get to make. If the IRS bothers someone, probably there is some good reason. I believe the reason we now have some increasingly defining rules (laws) is because too many of us abused the broader license of an earlier version.

    • A fan from CA says:

It should also be the FEC but apparently they are also messed up and not doing their job. I agree that there are a lot of holdover staff from R rule. They will keep things messed up in so many agencies for a very long time. It takes years to move out ineffective staff.

      • Cammie says:

Actually, I was looking at some of the early filings for Tea Party Express’s PAC and there were a SLEW of notices from the FEC telling them they weren’t filling out the forms correctly. Specifically, they weren’t getting specific enough with how they described their expenditures. I mean, we’re talking repeated notices. I was struck by how comfortable these people must have been with submitting slopping accounting…even after getting such notices. It just indicated to me a complete lack of concern for any reprisals.

You would think by the third notice, the FEC could or would suspend the PAC’s tax-free status.

        • Pinwheel says:

I believe these employees are doing what they are directed to do or not directed. “Things” like the FEC are political. They are not Cabinet level. Appointments to those ‘Commissions’ are political. Different animal.

Yes, poor dear Sarah’s fee-fees are hurt if you call her names. She’ll pause to wipe a tear from her eye before continuing with her rants, calling President Obama anti-American, people who criticize her “Neanderthals” “impotent” and “haters,” and takes a gratuitous swipe at the First Lady, a TV comic, and her daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

    • bubbles says:

not to mention putting cross hairs on her enemies and then when innocent people die cries blood libel.
i am wondering if it is possible she might try to run for John Kyle’s senate seat in Arizona or if it is a bit too soon after the tragedy. even Sarah aka The Twink might get a clue that Arizona might not be the place to run for anything at this time. of course i have no way of understanding Arizona mindset in this matter. i wonder what people who know something about the State and the folks who live there think?

      • BeeJay says:

The Repub establishment here would not necessarily welcome her into the unbridled mess that is AZ politics. Likely GOoP’ers are already jockeying for position, and her intrusion would swiftly make enemies. Being seen as a carpetbagger wouldn’t help either, no matter what Scarah thinks.

Worse news is that the Dems are most likely unable to field one strong candidate, let alone several for the primary. Only Gabby Giffords would be most likely to pull it off, and well, unfortunately she is currently in no position to be able to do so. As a state, we lost more than a few opportunities that day.

        • mag the mick says:

Agree w. BeeJay. Our State Republicans are walking in lockstep right now, investing heavily in state’s rights (and in my mind, secessionist) rhetoric. There are several local candidates (Russell Pierce or perhaps Jan Brewer or Joe Arpaio) whom they will expect to take Kyl’s place. They won’t welcome Sarah, except perhaps as a fundraiser.

          • I See Villages From My House says:

Saw an article in the Washington Times today saying that if Congresswoman Giffords proves her fitness for furthering service in office, that the job is hers for the taking. That’s from a conservative paper no less.

Wouldn’t that be fascinating? A Palin (Bristol or Sarah, same difference) running against a beautiful, competent and qualified victim of their culture of hate. . .

    • They seem to have forgotten more than a few swipes from the right.

Hey, guys, Gryphen over at IM quietly put a link in his latest post that is a tremendous gift to all progressives and would make a truly unHappy Birthday gift to Sarah Palin.

He mentions Generation We (what a great concept, eh?) and links to a website that I discovered has a free download that might make most of us feel much better about the youngest generation to come of age and the probability that progressive ideals will survive and maybe even thrive in their hands.

    http://www.gen-we.com/

Once there, you can download for FREE, a 257-page book that explains the movement of Generation We (those born between 1978 and 2000). I’ve scanned most of my download of it and have to say that I am impressed and proud of these young people. I hope they are able to come closer to fulfilling their vision than we baby boomers did.

Why not make yourself feel better by realizing that the poop Sarah scoops and spreads may not win; that our next generation of leaders may be better, smarter and stronger than the goofs she represents.

Unhappy Birthday, Sarah, from me to you.

From Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. A bit of the conversation between Mr. Bennet (played by AKM) and Mr. Collins (played by Mrs. Todd Palin).

“You judge very properly,” said Mr. Bennet, “and it is happy for you that you possess the talent of flattering with delicacy. May I ask whether these pleasing attentions proceed from the impulse of the moment, or are the result of previous study?”

“They arise chiefly from what is passing at the time, and though I sometimes amuse myself with suggesting and arranging such little elegant compliments as may be adapted to ordinary occasions, I always wish to give them as unstudied an air as possible.”

Mr. Bennet’s expectations were fully answered. His cousin was as absurd as he had hoped, and he listened to him with the keenest enjoyment, maintaining at the same time the most resolute composure of countenance, and, except in an occasional glance at Elizabeth, requiring no partner in his pleasure.

I have one question about the individual mandate on health insurance:They keep saying not once has the government required you to purchase anything because it is unconstitutional…so….Who do I complain to because the government makes me buy car insurance??????

Are they afraid to remind the American people that they already have government making them do something they would think was against their rights???
Or, after all these years it is just so common that no one notices????

I am not against buying car insurance…just wish the Dems and the Repugs would bring it up each time they shout about the health care individual mandate.
Did it hurt making you buy car insurance??? It did at first and made the insurance companies rich, but after a couple years the rates went down and now you can get insurance dirt cheap.
Maybe that should be an argument….sounds good to

    • ks sunflower says:

You brought up a topic that is quite tender right here in Kansas. I feel so bruised that the GOP leaders here are trying to amend the state constitution to prevent the adoption of health care reform, to stop the individual mandate and truly try to plant the first seeds of federal secession. Our new Governor, Brownback, and our new Secretary of State, Kobach, are trying to transform us into another Arizona or Texas. Blech!

If people really understood how little it could cost, even if they are levied a penalty (I read it was like $750 a year) to ensure that they had health care coverage, I think they’d reconsider opposing it, but that principle has been lost in all the negativity and lies generated by people like Sarah, she of the Death Panels that really exist now in Arizona thanks to Republican Governor Brewer, not health care reform. Of those of little intellect – how damaging they are!

Thanks for your comment. I agree with the principle you put forth.

Car insurance is a STATE requirement. So the Rs are screaming health insurance is also, as currently insurance companies are (often poorly) regulated by state boards.

Conservatives call it a state’s rights issue. As a method of attacking President Obama’s attempts to improve life here, the Rs are trying to present many planned benefits are unconstitutional because of the differing state/federal powers.

Also, federal law trumps state law, something else the morons don’t like.

      • fishingmamma says:

Car insurance is a state requirement, but the Fed tells the states they will not get Federal Highway dollars without that requirement on the books.

        • Sarafina says:

True, that’s how speed limit laws got passed. The point is which level of government sets the mandate, and that causes whining.

          • CO almost native says:

And laws requiring seat belt use. The Redneck GOPers here groused and gnashed their teeth over this one for years- but caved in when they learned how many fed highway dollars we’d lose.

          • Dagian says:

This is in reply to CO almost native.

In addition to states coming to terms with seat belt use and helmet use, even the horse world is coming to embrace safety gear, even for adults.

LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Jan. 24–Safety helmets will be required for all dressage riders in national-level competitions effective Mar. 1, 2011, under a new rule approved by the U.S. Equestrian Federation Sunday.

Senior riders in FEI (International Equestrian Federation) levels will have the option of competing in a top hat or protective headgear as at present. Although it appears FEI level riders are also exempt from wearing protective head gear in the warm up arena, a growing number of U.S. and international riders competing at FEI level in the U.S. are wearing safety helmets in both the warm up and competition arenas.

But if a rider is competing at both national and FEI level in the same competition they will be required to wear a safety helmet in all classes.

All riders under the age of 18 years must wear protective head gear at all levels, including FEI, as well as riders in FEI Dressage Tests for 4, 5 and 6 year-old horses as well as USEF test for 4-year-old horses.

The rule states: “At any time while mounted on the competition grounds, all riders under age 18, and all riders while on horses competing in national level tests, all riders competing in Para-Equestrian tests, and all riders while on non-competing horses, must wear protective headgear as defined by this rule…”

Protective headgear is defined as a riding helmet which meets or exceeds ASTM/SEI (American Society for Testing and
Materials/Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag.

The harness must be secured and properly fitted.

The head gear rules for dressage were changed in response to a groundswell of concern about safety that was brought to prominence after Olympian Courtney King-Dye was seriously injured in a horse accident early in 2010 and is undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation’s board of directors wasted no time last weekend in unanimously passing two rules mandating protective headgear for eventing and dressage.

Now I’m hoping that all riders will adopt this rule. I know that if you have a stable where people ride or take lessons, you CANNOT get insurance UNLESS it is a posted enforced rule that ALL RIDERS wear approved helmets.

I’ve been on a trail ride where someone’s awesome trail horse flipped out for the first time in living memory and her rider had to be air-lifted directly to shock trauma. It was a fluke accident, but it could have had tragic results, not merely “unpleasant” ones!

    • Laurie says:

In my mind, the mandate is linked to the way we pay for the uninsured now which is done very inefficiently. We all pay for the uninsured through taxpayer funds given to hospitals so they can treat the uninsured and still keep their doors open. It used to be that if someone without insurance turned up in an emergency room they could be turned away. If they were bleeding and in need of urgent care, they would be stabilized and put into another ambulance and shipped off to the city hospital which depended on taxpayer funds to stay open.
At some point, congress passed a law that said that hospitals could not turn people away. Of course they had to provide taxpayer money to cover these costs so the hospitals did not go out of business. Thank God they stopped people from being turned away, but this is a crazy and inefficient system we have.
With the mandate, we each pay for our own health insurance (or whatever part of it we can afford) and we do it in a more efficient way that should help us to get real health and wellness care and not just treatment when we are sick or injured.

      • Sarafina says:

Current law still allows stabilize and ship. And hospitals do it.

Yes the current system is crazy, but the Rs won’t allow any Dems victories they can stop. It’s not about helping the country or people to them, it’s about staying in office and getting richer.

    • And wasn’t there something about sailors back in the late 18th/early 19th centuries having to buy some sort of health insurance? Did I read that here or somewhere else? I think the dems need to start talking about that one, as it was started when there were still founding fathers around making the rules.

I guess with car insurance, you only have to buy it if you want to drive a car and you have a choice not to drive. But still, it is required in all states, is it not? Is that the difference, that it’s a state law rather than federal law? Personally, I don’t see that it makes a lot of difference. Not really, though for many right wingers it seems to make all the difference.

  50. ks sunflower says:

What a delightful post! You gave me the gift of laughter, AKM, on a day that really reminds me how sad it is to have politicians such as Sarah trying to spread division and hate. Even her fundraising letter does this.

As I watch the crowds in Tahrir Square in Cairo, I am reminded how we take our democracy for granted, how the gifts we have are truly not appreciated enough, and are in danger from demagogues such as Sarah and low-information voters. Then, I read your blog and others like it and realize that the sense of humor, the strength of practical optimism, and the depth of passion for the common good is alive and well. I believe these traits will spread, take root anew and overcome the narrow and dark vision of America that Sarah Palin and the GOP have.

You demonstrate, through this blog, that the spirit of our people has not become as jaded as we fear. The people who come here demonstrate their commitment to the best within ourselves and their unwillingness to allow our country to become overrun by corporate corruption and political ambition.

Mudflatters represent Sarah’s worst nightmare because we don’t give in, don’t give up, and don’t believe a word of the false patriotism she screeches. She will never have enough birthdays, raise enough cash, or be able to lie enough to change that. We are not believe in empty words, slick presentations, or emotional patriots. We are everyday people who believe in ourselves and not in false idols such as Sarah.

As Sarah nears the mid-century mark, she needs to realize, finally, that the world does not revolve around her, that she is squandering her most precious gifts (a husband and children) and dishonoring her parents, her community and her nation by her relentless negativity and inability to understand that most Americans simply want jobs, safe communities, affordable access to health care, and education for our children and ourselves free from propaganda and skewed historical views.

We are just ourselves, trying to recover from eight years of financial, social, and legal abuse under Bush-Cheney. Sarah? She is still a peculiar piece of work.

    • ks sunflower says:

I made a serious omission: mudflatters are not just Americans. They are people of the world who believe in pretty much the same things we do and who are tired of politicians who lie, cheat, wheedle, grift, fear monger, misrepresent, bully, and generally slime their way into power. They want honest and well meaning people to lead them through the complexities of the modern world. AKM has attracted people who seek truth from all over the world and has invited them to be part of this online community.

It is an accomplishment that is a gift to all of us. (Sorry, Sarah, this gift is not for you because you would not recognize its simple, sturdy worth and it is the one thing that will bring you and your ambition down: truth.)

ks you should have your own blog. well done!

      • Bella of Melbourne says:

ks sunflower you are absolutely right! Mudflats is a sanity saver!! An international community of free thinkers!

I watched in disbelief from distant Melbourne Oz when S Palin became the vice presidential candidate in 2008. She reminded me very much of our very own right wing nut job – Pauline Hanson, an inarticulate fish and chips shop owner, who entered federal politics in the 1990’s, with her extremely narrow minded, anti immigrant, anti indigenous world views.

She’d begun her political push as a Liberal candidate for the Senate but was turfed out by the party leadership after some particularly racist remarks in the lead up to the 1996 election. Unfortunately she stood as an Independent, got in and then preceded to voice all her idiotic, racist views in Parliament.

John Howard won that election for the Liberal Party after 13 years of Labour governments. In the name of anti political correctness and free speech he refused to repudiate her views – many of which he probably shared. In the 80’s he was notoriously pro the apartheid government in South Africa.

Because he turned a blind eye to her rantings she had a disproportionately loud voice. She constantly voiced her far right agenda – anti Asian immigration, anti reconciliation, anti taxation – in parliament and the media. She developed celebrity status and was so encouraged she started her own political party [One Nation] and for a while she was seen as the saviour by a certain group of conservative thinking… dare I say… uneducated Australians.

She eventually crashed and burned. Spent 9 months in jail for mis-dealings related to money and her political party. Since then she has attempted several political comebacks and been spectacularly unsuccessful. She now claims that she no longer needs to be in parliament because John Howard adopted many of her policies. And in this she’s dead right! Certainly his ruthless treatment of refugees and indigenous people owes a lot to Pauline Hanson. She voiced the absolute extremes and he was able to get away with taking up a position slightly less extreme and promote it as moderate!! He consistently got away with using marginalized groups – gays, single mothers, Aborigines, Islamic people, for political fear mongering. He won elections on the back of mistreating refugees.

Although Pauline’s gone, One Nation lives on. Since the recent floods in Queensland they’ve embarked on an email campaign, aimed at politicians and members of the right wing media, calling on the cessation of all foreign aid under the catch cry – charity begins at home.

Our new Labour Prime Minister, Julia Gilliard, has just proposed a very small one year levy [$1 per week for those earning more than $50,000 per year- 1/3 a cup of coffee!!] to help pay for the reconstruction of devastated Queensland. The Liberal opposition are fighting the levy on the basis that it’s a great big new tax!!

Last week Tony Abbott -their current leader and devoted Howard follower- said that rather than introduce the levy, cuts should be made to government spending eg they should stop funding the establishment of moderate Islamic schools in Indonesia. This program was started by the Howard government to stop the spread of terrorist ideas among uneducated Indonesian youth and appears to have been most successful in national security terms. Total cessation of the program seems likes absolute lunacy! So we still have to fight against the influence of Pauline Hanson/One Nation ideas on the conservative side of Australian politics.

You’re all doing a fabulous job unpacking the insanity of Sarah Palin. This is the first time I’ve written on the blog despite frequently dropping by to catch up on the latest gossip. Not that I’m belittling it! I fully understand your fear of her because of what I’ve seen happen to Australian politics since Pauline Hanson reared her ugly head! Google her and you’ll see. Some people actually think she’s beautiful. To me she looks like a red-headed snake!

I hope this rave on Aussi politics hasn’t been too boring. i just had to get it off my chest after all these years!!!

        Bella

        • Irishgirl says:

Don’t forget that mudflatters are also Palin’s worst nightmare because they are thoughtful, intelligent, passionate and compassionate. They question what they are told instead of blindly accepting someone else’s truth. They have the courage to expose falsehoods and the heart to reach out and help those who need a hand.

Most of all, they not only accept the diversity of this special little community, they CELEBRATE it and all the fascinating, messy, humorous baggage that come with it!

And they are all very, very grateful that AKM has created a sanctuary where they can all gather to learn, to vent, to cheer, to mourn and to share.

Please add “11 – Feb – 1959 BeeJay in Bisbee” to fill the gap between ’41 and ’63. Thanks!

      • Dagian says:

        Happy Birthday!

      • mag the mick says:

Happy Birthday, Beej! How about I buy you breakfast at the BBC sometime this weekend?

      • jimzmum says:

The happiest of birthdays to you! Sending you a virtual cake.

      • Irishgirl says:

        Happy Birthday, also too.

      • dreamgirl says:

        Happy Birthday! Enjoy.

        Happy Birthday BeeJay!

Happy, happy birthday! A toast to you with a bottle of Fat Tire *clink* !

      • Zyxomma says:

Happy birthday, BeeJay, and many happy returns of the day. Enjoy it in health and peace.

        • BeeJay says:

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!

And, CO, thanks for the thought! I’ll have some local microbrew later today, ‘cuz I can!

It is a great day, in fact it’s been a great week, and I’m glued to the computer, watching Cairo.

      • akbatwoman says:

Well Happy Birthday BeeJay in Bisbee, but I have to tell you that one of my children was born very early on February 12th, and I was happier to have him born on Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin’s birthday than Queen Sarahs!

On a local note, I think that Charisse Millett (the female half of the Love Caucus) was also born on this day, in 1964. Strangely, when running for the legislature the first time, she went around with look-alike Sarah Palin glasses, and her brown hair in an updo. And it worked, she won!

Like Sarah though, she now seems kind of on the outs with the public. Or at least her boyfriend is (Recall effort in Ketchikan?).

        • BeeJay says:

          Thanks!

Of course, do we have real proof that Sarah’s birthday is actually today? Has she shown us her real birth certificate yet? Or did someone forget to sign it? Inquiring minds want to know… Knowing her propensity for misinformation, anything might be possible.

A happy birthday to your son! He is in very good company on the 12th. I’ve always felt a bit of pride at being able to associate with Thomas Edison, even if he was pretty cantankerous, and a fair number of the other ‘E-leveners’ are also pretty good.

          • London Bridges says:

Sarah may not be able to show us her birth certificate if she really was born in Canada- free health care- ya know, and just up the road from the family homestead. Might be how she learned to neve show anyone any birth certificates.

      • leenie17 says:

Many happy felicitations of the day.

(and wishing you lots of chocolate birthday cake, too!)

      • barbara says:

        happy birthday!

    • InJuneau says:

Oh, poor Thomas Edison and Q’Orianka Kilcher (Jewel’s cousin and the actress who played Pocahontas in “The New World” among other things. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0452963/).

  52. benlomond2 says:

….I think a donation to Planned Parenthood in Scarah’s name would be a more fitting tribute… or the DNC, or Special Olympics, or PETA or your favorite College, or ……….

    • fromthediagonal says:

Yes, I think that is a lovely birthday present all in itself, and it is not my burthday yet…
Also, atop that interview Gryphen put up the blurb from ABC’s reporter asking some CPAC members “Where’s Sarah?” Fair warning, keep the tea/coffee cup far from the keyboard! What a collection of… Oh, make up you own minds!

  53. barbara says:

AKM you make that tripe worth reading. lol

  54. jimzmum says:

Mrs. Palin. When I was a little girl, my parents helped me to form the habit of using a bit of time on my birthday to think about the past year. They guided me in remembering good and ick, happy and sad times, and helped me see that I grew in body, mind, and spirit no matter what.

I wonder if you ever think about your year? Do you ever let your mind settle on what you have really done? I mean without the gasbag proselytizing, or only listening to well-scripted paeans from the chosen few whose comments are allowed to remain on your sites. Do you examine your soul?

I am talking to you as a mother to a mother. I don’t agree with your political stance at all, but that is not as important to me as is the stone-cold fact that you are a despicable mother to that little boy. Where are the services, free services mind you, that should have been in place since his birth through age three? Is he now enrolled in a pre-school program for children with disabilities? Also, free? Is he wearing his glasses? His hearing aids? Is he conquering the tongue thrust? Drinking from a bottle? Beginning potty training? Speech development? Sign language? Small muscle support? Gross motor education?

For God’s sake, stop using that child as a prop, and start being a mother. For once in your life, put someone ahead of yourself.

    • ks sunflower says:

I love the tradition your parents created for your birthdays. What a gift that was (and obviously still is).

    • Dandy Lion says:

Maybe Trig is being cared for by his mother, his real mother, not the one who claims to be.

    • tallimat says:

Growing up the birthday kid had to list a joy and a sad that occured over the past year… Right before the cake was brought to the table. Then the rest of us kids gave hugs to the birthday kid. I remember dad saying at mom’s birthday “love your joys and tears honey…”, right before she blew her candles out. It was the year we lost my little sister. I remember mom was hardly able to blow her candles out. She was laughing and crying, trying to blow.

No cash necessary, just simple thankful-isk behavior for your joys and tears.

    • CO almost native says:

My mother allowed me to pick out a book to give to the school library as my birthday gift, and I got a “gift note” on the inside cover, acknowledging the donation. I loved this, as did my own daughters. Palin could do this… oh wait- schools, reading, books…

      Never mind 😉

    • leenie17 says:

The saddest part about her trying to follow your wonderful tradition is that she is so delusional that she cannot make an honest appraisal of the past year. She certainly would not acknowledge that she made any mistakes, and she sees her world and her life through such a distorted lens that the effort would be pointless.

Everything good was because of her, and everything bad was someone else’s fault. Not much room for growth and enlightenment there.

  55. Irishgirl says:

Right, I’m busting out the credit card. I think dear Sarah must be very stressed out at this time and what she needs is a few hours in a spa to relax her. 🙂

    • Gramiam says:

And maybe a massage, also, too! Snark, snark!

    • Susabelle says:

Yup, and lets have a cup of cool aid!
      Oh, will it ever end?
Thanks for putting it in the right context and giving me a laugh!
She makes me want a cup of gin!

  56. Ramon says:

I don’t know if I will give money this time.
Last time I gave Sarah money, her husband went out and got himself a hooker.

  57. Sally says:

I think Shailey Tripp and Gryphen handed her the biggest surprise. SURPRISE! We know you weren’t pregnant with the poster baby. Surprise! Shailey has proof. Surprise! Tawd cheated. Surprise! The right will blame the media (surprise) for hating you, and you will (no surprise) say they are ‘makin’ things up.’ Only this time, I think you are caught in your own web. Surprise!

    • Is it plagiarism to call this “Harlot’s Web’?

      • overthemoon says:

oh my! That is as good as ‘whore of babble on’!!! I don’t think its plagiarism, its simply referential.

        • Pinwheel says:

          If the monkey shoes fit…..

Good tags to incorporate, if necessary (ha. ha, ha), in the future.

        • dreamgirl says:

True dat. “Harlot’s Web” and “Whore of Babble on” are certainly referential.

For those who wish to seek another “bestest” ever birthday gift to Sarah Palin besides AKM’s, please see The Immoral Minority: http://theimmoralminority.blogsopt.com/ and scroll down to the “Shailey Tripp is having Quite an impact on blogosphere” story.

          Happy Birthday Sarah! Enjoy.
