Palin’s Paul Revere Gaffe – The Idiocy Tour Continues (VIDEO)

Well, Hurricane Sarah continues its ravaging rampage up the Eastern seaboard. Leaving idiocy, ignorance and alienation in its wake, it continued its relentless path of destruction as it headed for New Hampshire.

First, in the nation’s capital, Sarah Palin managed to alienate the organizers of the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in support of veterans, POWs and those missing in action.

Then, she struck New Yorkers in the heart with a fork by desecrating their local customs and humiliating herself by eating pizza with silverware. And let’s not forget the Statute [sic] of Liberty.”

So where is she now?  Boston, Bean Town, the home of the original Tea Party.  Her target? Local legend and icon Paul Revere (or as the natives would say – Paul Reveah). Sure, Boston is teeming with historic places, and founding fathers, but Paul Revere holds a special place in the hearts of Bostonians. School children walk the Freedom Trail for class outings, the story is learned, generation after generation. It’s part of the culture, and the historical fabric of the place.

Enter Sarah Palin.

Her failed attempts at becoming a biker babe (“I love the smell of the emissions”), and a New York pizza eater (she forked that one up), served as a precedent for the most egregious regional gaffe yet – the desecration of the story of Paul Revere.

For those of you who need a little brush up, Paul Revere, a local silversmith… Well, I’ll let the Paul Revere House explain it. You just settle back and imagine the historical scene unfolding. It is the evening of April 18th, 1775….

Paul Revere was sent for by Dr. Joseph Warren and instructed to ride to Lexington, Massachusetts, to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were marching to arrest them. After being rowed across the Charles River to Charlestown by two associates, Paul Revere borrowed a horse from his friend Deacon John Larkin. While in Charlestown, he verified that the local “Sons of Liberty” committee had seen his pre-arranged signals. (Two lanterns had been hung briefly in the bell-tower of Christ Church in Boston, indicating that troops would row “by sea” across the Charles River to Cambridge, rather than marching “by land” out Boston Neck. Revere had arranged for these signals the previous weekend, as he was afraid that he might be prevented from leaving Boston).

On the way to Lexington, Revere “alarmed” the country-side, stopping at each house, and arrived in Lexington about midnight. As he approached the house where Adams and Hancock were staying, a sentry asked that he not make so much noise. “Noise!” cried Revere, “You’ll have noise enough before long. The regulars are coming out!” After delivering his message, Revere was joined by a second rider, William Dawes, who had been sent on the same errand by a different route. Deciding on their own to continue on to Concord, Massachusetts, where weapons and supplies were hidden, Revere and Dawes were joined by a third rider, Dr. Samuel Prescott. Soon after, all three were arrested by a British patrol. Prescott escaped almost immediately, and Dawes soon after. Revere was held for some time and then released. Left without a horse, Revere returned to Lexington in time to witness part of the battle on the Lexington Green.

OK, so we’ve got Paul Revere, on a horse, hush hush, lanterns lit briefly in the tower of Christ Church, knocking on doors, accused of being too noisy, etc. Got it?

Now, here is Professor Palin’s version, and an illustration from the history book she’ll be using.

“He who warned uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh by ringing those bells, and um, makin’ sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed.”

That’s right you British varmits! We don’t have a 2nd Amendment yet, but when we do… well… that’ll be what this here skirmish is all about. Now you skeedaddle before I make ya dance.  And STAY out!   >>>BANG!<<<

In case you’re feeling brave enough to watch the video, do note the look of disgust/bemusement/contempt from CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin. Priceless.

In summary:

Warning the British = Warning revolutionaries John Hancock and Sam Adams

Taking away our arms = someone’s going to be arrested

Ringing those bells = Lanterns in the church steeple

Sending warning shots = knocking on doors

See?  With a little translation, and a whole lotta suspension of disbelief, it all makes perfect sense!

After “mission accomplished” in Boston, the Magical Mystery Bus wasn’t finished yet. Apparently what Piper Palin was told was a  family “vacation” that was simply designed to visit America’s historical places of interest, had a mission of some urgency and a time sensitive nature. Defying tornadoes that had wreaked their own havoc in Massachusetts, with family in tow, the Palin bus headed north to arrive in New Hampshire only miles away from Mitt Romney, who was making a planned announcement that he would be running for the presidency in 2012.

Palin explained to the media that the timing and location was just “coincidence.” Perhaps it’s the same coincidental reason that the Palin family vacation motorhome looks like this:

So when do these news outlets start apologizing for their ignorance???

VIRAL STUPIDITY is what this is.

Revere informed the officers of the army’s movement from Boston, and that British army troops might be in some danger if they approached Lexington, because of the large number of hostile militia gathered there.

Listen, my children and you shall hear…
Well, just what it is, it’s not quite clear.
On the nineteenth of April in seventy-five,
Who’d Revere warn on his horseback drive?

From Concord to Boston to Lexington,
The British were warned ’bout touching our guns?
A Tea Party Patriot, armed to the teeth!
…At least in the words of Palin, S. Heath.

The lanterns were lit, no doubt says she,
In the Old North Church—for liberty!

Good golly gosh, I’m sure I don’t know
Just what’s the point of her traveling show.
One thing is clear: you’re going to be failin’
If you learn your hist’ry from Sarah Heath Palin.

  4. MO Inkslinger says:

We can’t blame Sarah for not knowing about Paul Revere. Remember we only allowed Alaska in to the union about 50 years ago so no doubt, Sarah thinks the founding fathers are John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. I would not have been surprised if she had said Paul Revere and the Raiders rode through the streets of Boston singing “Kicks.”

  5. kiksadi50 says:

Maybe it was just the weird way that I was brought up,but when my mother used to take my 8 siblings & me on summer vacations,we’d rent an old cottage near the ocean (Cape Cod) or lake Erie) for 2 wks.On rainy days my mother would take us on day trips to see ‘historical’ sites.Only she pronounced them historical.I remember trips to the National Seashore,Province Town,a blacksmith shop & museums.Mother would encourage us to listen to the tour guides, she would tell us interesting info.from the free literature and exhibit plaques and on the way home if we had questions,we weren’t quizzed, she answered them. Then we went & got ice cream sundaes & new England taffy, which I can’t believe I could chew at one time.My mother was a 2nd grade teacher. She raised us to be intellectually curious & she made learning interesting & fun.I knew when my mother told me something it was the truth, & I could believe her, because when she didn’t know something she admitted it & we looked it up together in the encyclopedia. She also understood that vacations were for kids to enjoy,& for a single parent like herself, who worked full time, to get to hang out & enjoy her kids.I feel sorry for palin’s kids.what kind of a ‘family vacation’ consists of watching mom have her hair & makeup done for her next photo op,& listening to mom’s war rm.devise strategic planning for the next pit stop.Aside from all her other dysfunctional characteristics, palin is a lousy, selfish mother.I feel sad for her kids. The Obamma’s actually spend time with their kids, that is about their kids.

  6. JRC says:

So, as much as I hate Palin, I love history even more. (I’m a former historian).

Palin deserves all the crap she can get for trying to use history to dog whistle for current political expediency. She really does. But history is history. And she mangled it. But lets get right what she mangled, and what she tried to co-opt for her own short-term political needs.

…particularily in light of the fact he could barely keep a straight face as he says: “Too much rich material, there, Mike [Taibbi], but we’ll leave it there…” as they end the 3:19-min segment on 31 May’s broadcast: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ns/nightly_news/#43230267

I’ve seen Williams when he’s been guest on Jon Stewart’s show and I’ve always been impressed by his view of the world and tickled by his (ahem…) ‘understated’ humor — I don’t think he suffers fools lightly… beth.

    • Mo says:

How about just quoting, instead of making us follow a link into that swamp?

  15. beaglemom says:

Following Sarah Palin’s magical-mistaken-history tour has made me think of the many genuine family vacations we had back in the 1950’s where we did visit historic places and paid attention and learned things. I still have black and white snapshots – Hyde Park, NY, Gettysburg, Washington, DC, Mount Vernon, Monticello, etc. My parents saved hard for those vacations and we all profited so much from the places we visited.

Sarah Palin has made it seem like she is the only person who has ever taken a “family vacation” to visit historic places. And she didn’t even pay for it. Plus she and what is left of her family have not spent enough time in any one place to even begin to appreciate its importance.

I was younger than Piper is now and I still treasure the sights and stories of those places.

What a fraud Sarah Palin is!

  16. …………………just when I think we might be exaggerating her ignorance……….

  17. G Katz says:

Seeing all the links being posted here and knowing how many more are out there, I’m beginning to wonder if Sarah’s publicity stunt has pushed her one step closer to the end times of her political career. Everyone is mocking her now. Even her Fox buddies like Kilmeade are turning on her.

Not surprisingly, Joe McGinness had something to say about her rendition of the midnight ride of Paul Revere:

    http://www.joemcginniss.net/sarah-palin-tries-on-american-history-for-size-it-doesnt-fit/Joe%20McGinniss

    • beth says:

And to think: Our own dear AKM had already valiantly shown us all how fast and loose $P is with the facts of history when The ‘Flats “took one for the team” last November and slogged through _America by Heart_ for us. That book of ‘$Ps’ was available to everyone across the nation — including the entire media, political pundits, and other writers, but it’s just *now* that all these Johnny-Come-Latelys (and/or Joe-Come-Latelys) are cottoning to the fact that $P ‘makes stuff up’ about history? Sheesh, where the heck have they been? beth.

  18. Martha says:

Next, Sarah’s planning to drive her bus to Hawaii where she’ll give a lecture on how brave American pilots bombed the Japanese at Pearl Harbor to protect the rights of the unborn and to keep prayer in schools. Heavy sigh…

    • mike from iowa says:

You stole my thunder. I had read of a Cuban who hi-jacked a bus and wanted the driver to take him all the way to Cuba. Hoping something like that would happen to Clueless One.

  21. AuntieRuth says:

She appears to be drugged in that video. Her skinny little neck can barely hold up her oversized head. She is long overdue for a haircut and her eyes look really strange. She might truly be very ill.

    • Dagian says:

I’m carbon-dating myself, but there must be others who remember when baseball players were jittering in the dugouts during game delays because they were so wired up from ‘greenies’.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if she weren’t messing about with Brazilian weight-loss pills found too readily on the internet. Those things are often chemical combinations that are not only addictive, but terribly hard on the heart.

She’s not running (literally) if she’s on that bus and I’m willing to bet hard currency that her weight and appearance are still of paramount importance to her (and her legions of male supporters). Maybe the Magical Mystery Bus tour is running back to Wasilla so she can detox at home.

Pure speculation on my part and may not be true in the least. But she wouldn’t be the first person to get hooked on diet pills–regardless of the dangers.

  22. G Katz says:

Another way to view Sarah’s Paul Revere Gaffe is “as eloquent an argument as anyone could make that this woman really should not be treated by any of us as anything resembling a presidential candidate.”

Good grief does she have to quit everything?
Surely there is money to be made driving a self promoting decorated bus about Arizona?

What about Florida? She could visit Jed?

Nobody is giving her $$$$ in Alaska, so why return?
      She is clueless.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

You can’t regroup if you were never grouped to begin with. You know how, at school, if a teacher lets kids form their own groups there’s always this bunch of kids left over that nobody wants because they cause problems, won’t do any work, annoy everyone else, and can’t work on a team? Then, they all end up together in this one dysfunctional mass that couldn’t be called a group.

That’s the Myopic Mystery Tour (and why teachers form the groups themselves–to spread the dysfunctional kids around!)

    • mike from iowa says:

I don’t think she could stand being talked down to. It isn’t so much reality versus imagination,it is more like if Sarah says it is so,it is.

      • Dagian says:

Thing 2 is *this* close to turning 13. The kid’s favourite phrase, the one guaranteed to make me hit pitches only bats can hear? “I know!”

Well, kid, if “you know!” why in the h*ll are you earning a miserable 55% in your math class? How is it possible to come home with a D in English–it’s your native tongue!

Anyway–my point is that $arah is developmentally in middle school. She “knows!” everything, she learns nothing, and heaven help me if I ever ran across that woman I would remove the gum from her mouth regardless of the legality of the method. Her dreadful brat(s) too.

On the one hand, I do feel badly for the brood…as the twig is bent, so grows the tree. On the other hand, they are not raised in a vacuum. Surely they have noticed the difference between their family’s manners, morals and grammar and that of others. All it takes is education and application.

Their home lacks books, musical instruments, books and none of them exhibit any curiosity about the world at large. I would find that sad if I didn’t find it so scary too…

  31. ToesInTheSand says:

Good grief. I was already reeling from Piper’s admiration for George Washington being such a “hard-working farmer & commercial fisherman” comment. Now this. Did this woman even GO TO SCHOOL? Her Father is a teacher, correct? What in the world do her other kids KNOW (or not) about American History? Even my conservative friends are in amazement at this, and that’s saying something. My Sig-other is appalled and he LOVES Palin! (used to now….thank goodness) I am feeling quite smug now in front of my family & friends….thanks Scarah!!

  32. Martha says:

I thought i would share this, because most here will enjoy it,and I think it sums her up almost perfectly.

It is in response to an article in the Baltimore Sun, “Sarah Palin gets it Right”:

    Fed up with Sarah Palin

As a former Republican (I left the party in protest over the Iraq War), I cringe at what’s happened to the GOP. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin “gets it right” in your opinion because she believes competition will breed success, but competition among whom and about what? (“Sarah Palin gets it right,” May 31.)

The Republican presidential field is pathetic, in my opinion, and you can’t turn mice into racehorses.

Sarah Palin is the queen mouse of all time.

Perhaps we should be awed that Ms. Palin visited Fort McHenry, read “The Star-Spangled Banner” and even managed to lift a canon ball.

Yet when it comes to serious policies, the woman is bereft.

It’s clever to wrap oneself in the American flag and ride with bikers. It takes even more cleverness to rake in a fortune from Fox News and get treated like the Queen of England here in America. Ms. Palin is shrewd, calculated and knows how to manipulate the media.

She also knows how to skirt the campaign finance laws.

However, what Sarah Palin “gets right” is her understanding of American stupidity. We have become a nation of celebrity worshipers who crave a “bread and circuses” existence. It might occur to this (wink-wink) non-candidate that there are real issues and serious decisions out there.

Sarah Palin’s “magical, mystery tour” is an insult to folks like me who actually care about our nation. Furthermore, I’m disgusted by her pseudo-patriotism and embarrassing lack of intelligent rhetoric.

The Internet viral-byte that works for me to describe my gut reaction to him is the one of him arranging his hair to the tune of “I’m so pretty.”

Palin’s appearance at the RNC struck me the same way: something was off, way off. I found The Mudflats almost immediately, and her performance at the VP debate sealed the coffin. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes it isn’t.

  40. beth says:

And lest we all forget, she also, too, beautifully bungled her “History Lesson on Foundational Sites and Concepts to Rill Amurican People” after her visit to Ft. McHenry.

Yup, she went to that site of “foundational” American history on 30 May and reported to all that: while there, she was inspired by seeing the Flag about which FS Key penned the poem that became our National Anthem — to whit: “What an inspiring visit to see the enormous symbol of America’s great victory!” [Yes, that is exactly and precisely what she ‘lessoned’ everyone! Sweet Jeebus!]

As our own mike from iowa has confirmed, that “enormous symbol of America’s great victory” is NOT at Ft. McHenry, it is at the Smithsonian. https://themudflats.net/2011/05/31/open-thread-buttons-2/#comment-266491 She is a grown adult American and she didn’t know that? She was just . at . the . Just when we think we’ve finally seen the depth of her ignorance, she surprises us with more. beth.

  41. mike from iowa says:

As a historical footnote- Alaska had a Paul revere type named Sarah Palin, who quit her day job to ride around Alaska claiming the sky was falling. Why she is so patriotic, she might well could have some Paul Revere cookware in one of her residences. If Raygun had stated that he met Paul Revere, someone named Sarah would claim that as a historical fact that most Americans won’t believe because we hate Rethuglicans.

  42. G Katz says:

She’s a living example of the old saying, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” I wonder how long her advisors will remain in her camp. Maybe they need the paycheck, but I think this makes them look bad. They need to give her a 30-second response that makes her appear to understand the significance of these “statutes” and other places she’s visiting on her tour intended to educate us unrill Americans and restore our foundation or whatever it is she thinks she’s doing.

nothing. Ailes is trying to pretend he is innocent, he is not. Fox news is gaming us. this silly woman came to New York and went to see Ailes to get her instructions face to face.
Ailes and Murdoch ought to be charged with sedition and treason along with Sarah Palin. imho.

  47. Cathy Heyworth Harris says:

She should stick to talking about Alaska. This is so surreal, it’s almost unbelievable.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

But she doesn’t know anything about Alaska.

She can’t figure out how to spend PAC money correctly
      She can’t cook
She can’t read the back of cake mix boxes
She can’t pass 5th grade American history
She can’t describe what the VP does
She can’t shepherd a piece of legislation through her legislature
      She can’t finish a 4 year term
She can’t bring more votes to an endorsed candidate than she alienates
She can’t draw a crowd at the Reagan Ranch compound in Santa Barbara
      She can’t quote Reagan correctly
She can’t pay her taxes on her vacation home
She can’t run for office again in AK, so she’s moving to AZ
She can’t admit the map had corsairs
      She can’t comb her hair
She can’t refute what Bailey says
She can’t get her family to come on a family vacation
She can’t get her kids to finish school
She can’t dress properly for Belmont
She can’t dress properly for historical sight-seeing
      She can’t eat pizza properly
      She can’t shoot a caribou
She can’t dress properly for a hunting expedition
      She can’t site her gun
She can’t get the locals to be interested in her
She can’t get the serious media to take her seriously
She can’t get even FOX to take her seriously
      She can’t . . .

      Heck. What CAN she do?

      • tallimat says:

The Quitter can proudly say she has sucessfully pushed goverment mandates away by not using seatbelts for her kids!

      • Cathy Heyworth Harris says:

True, true, true. Plus on page 71 of Blind Allegiance you will find where she turncoated on my brother Scott Heyworth, after promising him to support ANGDA if he would help her win the election, by creating AGIA. She would put $25,000,000 for ANGDA into her budget at first publication, cut it to $5,000,000 the next publication, then zero it out at the end of session. Twice. Maybe its three times because of when she started and quit. Alaskans got cheated out of a gasline because this “thing” is a lying, backstabbing, publicly documented worthless piece of human skin. I don’t have any strong feelings about this or anything, as you can tell 🙂

      • LoveMyDogs says:

        She CAN QUIT.

    • Millie says:

I think she’d flunk at test on Alaska too! She lies about her governmental history w/the state and she is not an oil/gas expert. Everyone should read Andrew Halcro’s blog of yesterday. It gives a ‘truthful’ history about Palin.

  48. Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

If Palin wanted to boost her image as smart womanhood, she’d mention Sybil Ludington, the gal that finished her ride to warn the countryside (unlike ol’ Paul).

    http://www.thestoryofagirl.com/my-life/my-heros/sybil-ludington/

A very nice article written by a couple of fourth grade girls .

Most homeschool history units do carry a lesson on Paul Revere.
I’ve got a History Unit selection list right here on my desk.
    Its for the 5th grade.

I’ll avoid the obvious “not smarter than a fifth grader” snark… 😉

  50. Wallflower says:

I was baffled by the whole thing, but the “ringin’ those bells” part really did have me going. Of course! It’s the bell tower! Lanterns, guns. . . towers, bells. . . anyone could make that mistake.

  51. Simple Mind says:

Loving to sniff those tailpipe emissions……..garbled nonsense about ringing bells and gunfights ……Coincidence? I think not.

  52. LibertyLover says:

C’mon people, that’s just her Beauty Pageant answer to history questions….

OK, so, It’s been confirmed TWICE that she is still working for Fox “news” so that means that she has indicated to them that she isn’t running for President… so WHAT is the press doing following her around? What if Palin threw a press conference and nobody came?

If I were Piper, I would be ticked off at my mom. But it looks like Piper is ticked off at the media.

I finished Blind Allegiance last night. It was a good read ( and the pics were at the back of the ebook…). The only thing that the book did for me was confirm what I had suspected about Palin all along. Definitely NOT anyone suited to be the “leader of the free world.” I do think that what she is trying to do “be a leader without a title” however.

But what she is trying to lead us TO is the big question…

  53. aussiegal77 says:

Palin wants a One Nation alright……one nation of morons who would actually BELIEVE she has more than 1 functioning brain cell.

Also too……Palin doesn’t believe in coincidences. She’s already running.

On Morning Joe, Buchanan seemed disgusted that Palin (intentionally) tried to upstage, in his words “sucker punched”, Romney on the day of his announcement:

  56. JRC says:

If it makes anyone feel any better Palin’s trip here was not very big news. No one cares.

  57. 24owls says:

SO she invaded my home state – nothing new there, being the first in the nation primary state we get all the wacko wanna-bes and main contenders ( I think the cost is still $1000. to get your name on the general ballot ) and the half wit twit bus tour quit for the day in Portsmouth – arghhhhh! – at a hotel within a 10 minute walk of my house. I thought of going down in the middle of the night and letting all the air out of the tires on the bus but then thought nooooooooooooooooooo!! That would mean she would be staying longer to get the bus fixed – ugh, ugh and more ugh. The sooner she gets out of town the better. Portsmouth is a deep blue progressive city, oozing with tons of history, no patience or tolerance for her stupidity here.
Oh and the location of the Mitt announcement is a mere 10-15 minutes south of Portsmouth so her being in the same area as a “coincidence” is 100% crap but then again so is the quitter queen – 100% crap.

    • tigerwine says:

Snicker! I said on an earlier post that getting that monster bus around those New Hampshire cobbled streets and country roads, wasn’t going to be easy! Yes, there are highways, but you always have to get off to really get anywhere. Just a good thing she didn’t try to go up there on Memorial Day! Maybe she should give it another shot during leaf season.

    • mike from iowa says:

I’m kinda surprised that Fake Noise doesn’t declare bug splats on the windows of the bus as liberal grafitti or vandalism. Like the old tv commercial used to say.you expect less from a leader, and you get it.(with Palin)

  58. OMG says:

I love this letter from a woman from Baltimore:

“However, what Sarah Palin “gets right” is her understanding of American stupidity. We have become a nation of celebrity worshipers who crave a “bread and circuses” existence. It might occur to this (wink-wink) non-candidate that there are real issues and serious decisions out there.

“Sarah Palin’s “magical, mystery tour” is an insult to folks like me who actually care about our nation. Furthermore, I’m disgusted by her pseudo-patriotism and embarrassing lack of intelligent rhetoric.”

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/bs-ed-palin-20110602,0,2322360.story

    • aussiegal77 says:

      BRAVO!!!!!!

I hope more and more people who see her on this ridiculous bus tour are disgusted by her total lack of respect for the office she is running for. All Palin wants is to WIN. That is it. She doesn’t care about this country or its citizens….heck she barely cares for her own family. She is an absolute disgrace.

  59. OMG says:

Why isn’t law enforcement enforcing laws with respect to Palin’s wild ride?! If you or I had don’t similar traffic maneuvers we know what would happen to us.

  60. Diane says:

And this remark was after she took the tour?
What an idiot. What a stupid, stupid person that should be nowhere near the Oval Office.
Maybe those high school should be challenging her to a debate about facts. Even Michelle Bachmann sounds smarter then her

  61. keaaukane says:

Dammit, I hate to defend your idiot half Gov, but she is closer to correct than usual here. The troops from General Gage WERE being sent to gather the arms stored in Lexington and Concord. There was no need to send 600 troops to arrest anyone. After all, there were armed British patrols throughout the countryside, that eventually arrested Mr. Revere.

By some strange process, possibly akin to osmosis, knowledge of the Longfellow poem seeped into her head (Bugs Bunny did a cover, if I recall correctly). Naturally, it got garbled, but the point remains that the Brits were trying to seize arms. See Patriots, by A J Langguth, or even Wikipedia.

Now, if one wanted to move beyond smarmy snark in this case, it raises a host of issues about the War on Terror (copyright 2001, G. Bush, R. Cheney). Arresting dissenters, suppressing dissent, are the tools of tyrants. Does SP now support conduct she finds abhorrent when the Brits?

    • tigerwine says:

As my 9th grade history teacher emphasized, the British were perhaps on their way to gather arms, they were not “seizing” the colonist’s weaponry. The stuff belonged to the King. The teacher was Canadian, and this was my first experience with a different viewpoint on the way we were taught history. Hooray for teachers that make you think!

      • keaaukane says:

Nonsense. There is an important distinction made between private arms (rifles, etc which is apparently what the 2nd amendment covers) and arms not used by individuals (cannons). The cannons were purchased by the towns, not supplied by the King. The redcoats had to threaten the town jailor of Lexington to show where the Lexington cannon was hidden.

However, the Brits were also entering houses searching for arms, gunpowder and stored food. Those were clearly the private property of the Colonists.

I was checking Patriots, to be sure my memory was correct. Langguth writes that alarm bells were rung to gather the Minutemen.

    • Alaska Pi says:

Nope- not more correct than usual…
About normal, just as garbled as ever.
Take some facts , stir em up, imply Mr Revere himself is ringing bells and sending warning shots.
Think you’re right about Longfellow’s poem- Bugs Bunny or no, most schoolkids can recite the first verse.

Good question about tools of tyrants- wish someone would ask her that with a microphone handy…

    • scout says:

      Dog whistlin’ for the NRA fashioning herself as Paul Revere;
it all works for the fearful , the hateful, the Palin supporters.

    • g says:

The point remains, though that Revere wasn’t making a defiant statement to the British (warning the British) that they couldn’t take the colonists’ arms, complete with clanging bells and warning shots. Reverse was making a clandestine run to alert the colony leaders to avoid seizure, and to call out the colony militia against the British.

What I find strange is Palin’s affect as she relates her version. The odd rising tone of her voice, the incoherence of her sentence, the peculiar emphasis on a 21st century political meme (“take away our arms”) – she really doesn’t have even the simplest narrative of what happened in her head – it’s all stitched together talking points, themes, and stereotypical images. She doesn’t know what Paul Revere did and who he was – she’s simply making it up.

It’s not just word salad with her now – her brain is making thought-salad.

    • She’s correct in the sense that Revere’s ride did have to do with holding on to guns–those being stockpiled in Lexington and Concord. However, everything about the way she tells the story gives the impression that Revere was not running to tell people to hide their arms more securely, but riding through the Massachusetts night screaming defiance at the British, and ‘firing warning shots’.

    • Cynthia says:

The central issue of the Revolution wasn’t gun control, or protecting a right to keep and bear arms. It was discontent with British rule, because that the colonies weren’t sufficiently represented in British government. That is the reason Paul Revere was active and remembered. Any spin to make this about guns, or about what Revere mentioned to the British soldiers he came in contact with along the way, is to focus on the minutia surrounding the central conflict and Revere’s role in it. In other words, she can’t see the forest for the trees.

I thought pinoccchios were the low fat nuts grown in California. Interesting article. Maybe someone should pore over her word salad and see if she got anything right.

    • aussiegal77 says:

      Open mouth, lies tumble out.

    • cortez says:

This type of fact checking should be going on everytime, and by every reporter, that covers this kind of crap. Current reporting, and not just FOX, does a great disservice to the American public when they allow this to be reported without calling her on it. I can understand that the interviewing reporter can’t call her on it immediately, but once its back in the newsroom, ready for broadcast, someone has to make a little effort.

  63. mike from iowa says:

History doesn’t seem to be her strongest suit. She doesn’t play well with others. Her math skills are severely lacking. Geography must be left at home in a locked box. Her fundumbmental understanding of how OUR government works has completely escaped her. She couldn’t spell work ethic let alone explain what it is. I’m not seeing much in the way of communication skills or leadership abilities. Her idea of diplomacy appears to be to throw people under the bus if they irritate the Queen Bee. If it is worth doing, charge an exhorbitant fee for it. Never admit mistakes, never apologize. All her enemies are disgruntled exes. Steal your best stuff from the best so people will think you are Reagan-like. And don’t forget deny, deny, deny.

  64. AliGirl says:

She may knock the MSM, but she manages to have GVSustern from Fox ON the bus for an interview. GVS always saying I don’t know where your next stop is I’ll have to read it on Twitter. Does GVS really think we are that dumb to believe she doesn’t know what SP’s agenda is?

  65. Exit 35A says:

Not that I was expecting anything coherent but this is embarrassing.

  66. BinCo says:

Well, what do you people expect? Didn’t she just come from the Liberty Bell portion of her tour? Bells, lanterns same dang thing.
I bet if you asked her a question about the Tea Party she would probably say they served coffee as well!

  67. Bev says:

I am just dumbfounded…her parents are teachers and this is what she learned???

She not only fractures the English language, she fractures History to the point of nothing recognizable.

Her poor children, what must they think of her (that is if they know real history)…can you see Piper in history class correcting the teacher, telling her..”but mommy said.”

Just like it’s said..money does not buy class or an education and common sense.

  68. Muppet says:

Is she smarter than a 5th grader? Apparently not.
I read where Piper told the Times journalist “thanks for ruining our vacation.” It’s proof positive that the woman is lying to her kid.
    Family values my arse.
How can you read this and not point-and-laugh at her?

    Muppet from Indy

    • Bev says:

If Piper really said that, yes how telling things are in that family…it shows that Palin is already teaching her children to blame others for the problems that befall them.
Her mom ruined the pseudo-vacay by it never being about family times but about Palin time.

    • G Katz says:

If the mama grizzly really wanted Piper to have a good time, I wonder why didn’t she let her bring along one of her school friends, someone her own age. Then she might have stood the chance of having fun with a friend and not felt the need to body-check the reporters just to get some attention from mommy dearest.

      • Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

Sounds good, but I sure wouldn’t wanna let my kid go all over the country in that kind of media circus – can’t think of anyone that would, really. Except (of course) for Palin herself.

Besides, who is the adult on that tour, anyway? Palin has her attention on “other things” and the Heaths just don’t seem to be that with it either.

        • G Katz says:

Oh, yes. You make some very good points. I wouldn’t let my kid travel with them either. Duh!

      • mea says:

i was thinking along those lines; a friend to keep Piper company; but since she doesn’t go to school, what chums does she really get to have?

    • cortez says:

Now how could a parent lie to their child like that? Telling Piper it was a family vacation?? If it was truly a family vacation, the motorhome would look like every other motor home out there on the highway. If it was truly a family vacation, Greta would not be along for the ride. If it was truly a family vacation, Sarah would not have shown up in NH at the same time, just miles away, from Romney’s presendial run announcement. And then trashed him. If it was truly a family vacation, Sarah would have announced a long time ago that she was not going to run for president, instead of playing this game with the American public.

      • cortez says:

Oh yea, if this was truly a vacation, whats she doing paying for it all with SarahPAC money? What a slap in the face to her supporters. Unless of course, she really is on a campaign tour. Than thats OK, now she is just insulting and manipulating her family.

      • yukonbushgrma says:

What burns me is the example $P is setting for her kids, and Piper particularly. See Piper, it’s OK to bilk people for money, and it’s OK to lie about our ‘family vacation.’ And it’s just hunky-dory to go out there and gobble up all the media attention you can get. From what we’ve seen, Piper is learning well. Ugh.

  69. Ken Page (aka) Micky-T says:

What an embarrassment she is and Piper must be learning so much!

Her whole scene makes me sick.

  70. OMG says:

A cartoon that makes the point:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/telnaes?hpid=z3

And an article that points out that Republicans are not really impressed with her antics:

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0611/56167.html

Now we need to hear that the FEC is investigating her PAC funded family vacation.

    • merrycricket says:

It’s about time the FEC decided to look into $arah’s Wild Ride, Part II. Wonder if she’ll bring home another baby as a souvenir. This time a girl named Trinket. She caught it flying in the wind during the tornado.

      • Bretta says:

My bet says it’s brown. Since the adoption trip to Haiti didn’t work out during Bristol’s last pregnancy.

    • I’ve been wondering how she still can raise money for a political career that she doesn’t have. Why, oh why, do people still give her money when she isn’t, and doesn’t seem to want to be, a candidate for any office? That can’t be legal.

      • tigerwine says:

I’ve been wondering that, too, Pat! I’ve heard that she CAN legally use the SarahPAC bus for her vacation. Can she keep on accepting funds even though she has no intention of running?
Maybe for other people? Although she has not been particularly generous with her donations to other candidates in the past – maybe 10%?

      • Cammie says:

Best I can figure out, they really do think she’s “one of them.” And so if they make her rich, it’s the next best thing to being rich themselves. They are living vicariously through her.

      • Jane in NC says:

I did a little research and don’t have time to re-find the citations, but apparently the tour is legal use of the PAC money. She does, however, have to pay taxes on the money she takes from it. It’s like winning a Winnebago on a game show 🙂

  71. tigerwine says:

Listen, my children, and you shall hear . . . . You are so right, AKM, the ride of Paul Revere was drummed into all our little New England heads (and hearts).

I grew up in Portsmouth NH, and it hurts me to hear the likes of Bachman and Palin holding forth on well-known facts such as Lexington and Concord being in MA, not NH (even though the capitol of NH is Concord) and the distorted facts about Revere’s ride as put forth by SP yesterday. Sounds like their staff just cobble up a name and they sally forth, without bothering to look into the history behind those words. They might just learn to be an even more proud ‘Mericun!

    • Cassie Jeep says:

We leaned it in Pennsylvania, too.

How could she have missed it?

    • OtterQueen says:

How hard would it be for SP to read up on the next destination while she is en route? Seems she’s more concerned with wearing a New Hampshire sweatshirt (or a bling-y Star of David) than being able to speak on any topic of substance.

Hell, I’m going to Nevada for 2 days next week, I seriously doubt I’ll be besieged by anyone seeking a statement, and yet I’ve been reading about the town I’m visiting so I can better appreciate the local landmarks. It’s not so difficult…

    • cortez says:

Heck, we even learned it way back in the day in Southern California! How Sarah could garble that story up that badly is mind boggling.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

      We learned it in CA.
While it appears that Paul Revere (and Revere Ware) went coast to coast, his ride didn’t extend as far north as Wasilla. It would appear that, while taking on the British single handed in a prize fight on the green in Concord, NH, he was too chicken to venture where the Russians might see him from their houses and light the signal fires to ask for Rohan’s aid in shooting off the fireworks cannons which would have prevented him from altering Lincoln and Franklin that the British were seceding from the Union Jack. Which is why Betsy Ross put 50 stars on the flag–the number of those British Revere took down with his second amendment Gatling Gun while swilling a little of Samuel’s Pale Ale.

If he hadn’t been successful, perhaps I wouldn’t be here. The loss of Samuel could have drastically changed the course of my family’s history, much as Sarah’s anonymous family bus seems to be running over it right now!

    • Baker's Dozen says:

      We learned it in CA.

While Paul Revere (and Revere Ware) made it all the way to the West Coast, it seems he was too chicken to go to Wasilla, where the Russians could have seen him from their houses, lit the signal fires calling for Rohan’s aid, and shot the fireworks cannons at him, thus preventing him from taking out 10 British soldiers singlehandedly on the Concord, NH green in a prize fight and then riding to warn Lincoln and Franklin that the British were seceding from the Union Jack, and taking out 40 more with his second amendment Gatling Gun (making 50 British that he took out, just before he put the tea in the harbor, which is why Betsy Ross put 50 stars on the flag, just before opening her Ross Dress for Less chain).

    • It’s funny, really. I grew up in southwest Kansas, and when I read through AKM’s account, I found myself nodding my head. I nearly choked when I read what Palin had said. Sounds like she thought she was in Dodge City. I hope she never goes there and sees the fake “Boot Hill” –she’ll think it’s the real thing. (And I really do hope that Dodge City has since realized how stupid it is to make fake landmarks for the tourists.)

    • Nubiannut says:

I wonder what kind of gun she thinks fired “The shot heard round the world”? I’m surprised she hasn’t talked about that and referenced 2nd Amendment. Per the Witch from Wasilla, “the Founders were so concerned about the right to keep and bear arms because they had this really big gun that was so loud when you shot it people all over the world heard the noise.”

  72. Lynn in VA says:

Huffington Post is running the story of her gaffe and stepping on Romney’s announcement AND they mention Frank Bailey’s account of how he had helped her 2006 gubernatorial run with RGA money, as well as how lack of loyalty seems to be a Palin trait… maybe the rest of the world is finally going to see Mooseferatu’s true colors! The plug for the book is a good thing too….

  73. PhotonFlower says:

So, did a battle ensue on Lexington Green…or was it more like a squirmish? 😀
    tiny.cc/7frge

    • Baker's Dozen says:

Anyone listening to her is in a squirmish, that’s for sure.

  74. I just can’t figure out how this woman got out of high school and got any kind of college degree. Apparently she slept through every history class or just skipped them altogether. How can she get so much so wrong. Oi, she makes my head hurt. And my mother and her sisters, who instilled a love of history in me, are turning over in their graves.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

She’s the best example yet of why we need graduation standards! How in the world did they let her into high school? We had to know that stuff to get out of 8 grade.

    • M Baker says:

She cheated by using written notes on her hand to cheat her way through. That’s why she is so comfortable doing it now. It’s the only logical reason I know of on how she managed to get through. What’s makes it even more obvious is she’s a jounalism major and still can’t write or speak proper English. She also probably payed a much brighter student to write her papers for her.

    • beth says:

What’s even more distrurbing is she makes these pronouncements right . after . she . has . visited . the . site! How can someone listen to a docent or tour guide (and probably skim through the provided literature, also, too) telling the story and facts at an historical site, and then turn right around and *consistently* get them wrong!, wrong!, wrong! when they then ‘share’ that information with others within a matter of mere hours?

Is she utterly incapable of comprehending and embracing unassailable new Facts and verifiably Truthful information if they contradict with her previously-held erroneous notions?

Oh, wait… this is $P we’re talking about. beth.

      • leenie17 says:

After the 2008 election, political experts from all sides agreed that she needed to go home and do some work if she wanted a future in national politics. Study up on history, geography, economics, foreign policy, etc. Naturally, she decided it was too much (unpaid) work and chose to go on her media spree instead.

She’s now following the same process here. What most intelligent people would have done before this trip is gather materials about the different places they planned to visit and study up before they went AND between stops so they would be prepared before they even got there. I’ve forgotten a lot of my American history from high school, but you can be sure I’d be hitting the internet and reviewing my history (AND paying very close attention to the tour guides) if I knew I was going to be commenting on camera. But then again, I’m an intelligent person who doesn’t assume a wink and a toss of my bumpit will make me a wealthy media queen!

Oh, wait… this is $P we’re talking about. beth.

Gather Ye Media so we can hear
Of the midsummer ride of the Great Tin Ear,
    On the flag-painted bus on I-95;
    Headed for Concord on overdrive,
Calling the cameras, to announce— She’s Here!

      I’m here to make history,
      It’s not what they wrote-

      Revere rode a Harley,
      I know for a fact;
      The horse and the bells?
      It was just an act!

      He rode through tornadoes,
      Jumped over debris-
      An American hero…
      Just like me!

funny thing; i just read the Boston Globe write-up about SPAZ’s run through Boston, and their reporter didn’t seem to know how wrong SPAZ’s interpretation of Paul Rever was. that’s the media for you….

    Tonite on Rachel Maddow

    “Republicans don’t like Mitt Romney”
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show/#43261437

Rachel describes that, even though the media following the bus had to pull over and crawl into a church basement when they realized they had ventured into a tornado zone – Palin was beating her butt (err, her BUS!) to get up to NH. In time to coincidentally make her comments – stopping point was 5 MINUTE ride from where Mitt making his announcement.

    • Kath the Scrappy says:

forgot, the point where Palin and flying tornado debris is at the 4:34min mark. Too funny, the twit!

Maybe she thought that flying debris was simply her Flying Monkeys?

      • North of the Range says:

Nah, she probably thought she’d be fine. Probably had that alternate tornado conveyance– the handy dandy bicycle– ready as a stand-by.

How come Sarah and her retards are only seen with Chuck and Sally Heath during their SarahPac paid for family vacation ?

How come Todd’s parents, siblings and relatives are not riding the shrink wrap special education Palin bus?

    • GoI3ig says:

Because Todd’s sister can’t leave the state as a condition of her probation. Darn that pesky burglary charge.

      • Terry in Maryland says:

…and Todd’s mother has a meth related charge, too, doesn’t she?

        • cortez says:

Not sure about his birth mother, but his step mom, Faye Palin, wouldn’t be caught dead on Sarah’s Magical Mystery tour. Sarah endorsed Faye’s competition when Faye ran for Mayor. And Faye tends to be to the left of Sarah in all things political.
You might be confusing Levi’s mom with Todd’s. She had a slight run in with some illegal sales of prescription drugs.

          • ValleyIndependent says:

Spot on. Todd’s dad and step mother are classy people with brains. They are very unlike Sarah. Faye would have made a much better mayor than the one Sarah endorsed. As it was, Sarah’s candidate won, and ended her second term a few months after the city council voted to request her resignation after an independent investigation concluded she had engaged in wrongdoing and perhaps attempted collusion while in office.

        • GoI3ig says:

That was actually Levi’s mother. The other side of the Wasilla-billy clan.

        • M Baker says:

You’ve got to be kidding, Tawd’s mother has a meth related charge against her? Is that really true, and if so how old is she? If she’s using drugs at her age, you know she must have been using drugs earlier, perhaps even while she was raising Tawd. That would explain why Tawd’s has such a poor taste in women. You’ve got to feel sorry for him in a way, for being attracted to such a pathedic and ignorant women such as Sarah. I figured out how Sarah got through college and still manage to be ignorant. She cheated her way through by writing notes on her hand before tests. Writing notes on her hand is an old and time tested method for her.

Oh No, I agree with the comment, but I think Keith Olberman’s standard comment fits here “That woman is an idiot”. And she doesn’t know about Revere’s ride or how Washington was able to run that farm by himself (forgetting as Colbert said about Washington’s “African volunteers”. Bachman thinks Lexington and Concord are in New Hampshire and that the founding fathers ended slavery? Really, and these are two of the Republicans possible candidates?
