What a beautiful woman, practicing her skill with pride and joy. I’ve woven many things in my life, but never a net. Thanks for the lovely video, and the reminder to protect Bristol Bay.

To InJuneau- Thank you so much, dear woman. I received a care package and the timing could not have been more perfect. I hope you see this.

    To everyone else:

Please, if you have any influence with the Universe, tell them I have had enough. Urgent Back surgery last Monday resulted in dealing with a blood clot in my leg today. I need all the best juju you can all muster.

    thank you in advance.

Hey Ripley..hear ya..loud and clear. I’m on it..from here..and you..focus upon the rules/regs and meds..the Docs are suggesting from there. The leg will be getting better overnight..and the back..will take its time but..be amazing..when it gets its own healing done. Hugs.

Haven’t said much about my garden since early June. Weather here has been near brutal heat and wind and no significant rain for over a month. My potatoes and sweetcorn have had to make due with the rain they got so I won’t have any sweetcorn. Deer have been eating the tassels on the few plants that have silks out. I watered my raised beds-onions,a few spuds, tomatoes, lettuce and carrots. Well since the watered stuff was mostly green the deer decided to eat tomato plants(a first for me),they have eaten the lettuce even though it bolted and went to seed and they have eaten the tops off most of my carrits. On the other hand I’ve been digging spuds the last few hundred degree days and have been pretty impressed. Several dark, red Norland spuds weigh over a pound apiece and they are producing some decent numbers of spuds under most of the plants. Have given away fifty or sixty pounds of spuds the last few days along with onions. Onions stopped growing a couple weeks ago. Not much for size but they are delicious amd plentiful. Send rain pronto, please.

It’s been hot and dry here as well and my vegetable plants are struggling (except for the zucchini). I went out yesterday morning to collect some lettuce for lunch and discovered that the rotten raggits had been there first. Every single lettuce plant was chewed right down to the nub. I thought I had fixed the fence last week but obviously missed one spot where it was not fastened quite tightly enough to the ground. The rotten raggits found their way in and had a feast.

I had explained the Rules of Leenie’s Garden to all of them in great detail (weeds-fine, grass-fine, shrub leaves-fine, veggies-NOT fine), but clearly they did not pay any heed.

      Rotten raggits!

Thank you for the posting of a filmed bit, a capturing of..what happens when a pro..does the act of net creation. It is..a skill, a ..scent of old linen..in my early life, and the ceiling hooks which mother and father had here in this house, and in the houses around the general areas of the Columbia River..are still..’in place’. My parents have been gone for 17 years now..and I cannot..remove those hooks. I glance at them..and feel the pull of the webbing, the cedar needles..rest in bookcases..and yet I can feel..the snap and tug..as I too did mending. I grew up..in sloughs with boat houses, and walked the century old plank floors of the warehouses..here in Oregon..and up in Alaska. The callouses..the deftness..which the woman shows..both of her work..and her deepseated Lifeexperience..is..Right On. Solid, healthy..correct. People who get ..tolled away from bodies that can do..good, honest work..and only..manipulate..portfolios and beancounters..move us away from genuine survival. It is a ..mirage..they build..and the flash and snap of neon, and comp. screens..do not..provide the fresh knotted string of fish..to eat that day. Do not..pull and wash down a bunch of gorgeous carrots from a garden..for stew..or ..provide cows milk, goat milk or mares milk..for the communal table. I..on my little farm..got up about 30 min. ago..brewed coffee, and ate a spartin snack..and..will go out..into the wet fields..to try my hand at what I grew up doing..besides of course..the teaching years with the degrees at the U. of Oregon. I am..going to drag a tarp..down the rows of blueberrys..cutting back wild berry vines..and haul them ..down to the end of the rows. Late afternoon..when they have wilted some..are lighter..I will pile them..in a heap..for others to use the tractor..this coming weekend..to pile on the burn pile. I mention this a lot..because there are others..who may gain strength..from thinking about..how to..live with a chronic illness, stage 4 cancer..and see the corr. with..also doing semihard work..physical work. If..we each one..do not..bend our individual minds, souls and bodys..to being able to ‘farm’..the fields, the forests or the waters..we ..pulldown..all of those around us. If..we are not part of the answers..we ARE part of the problem. The false dawn..has not yet arrived..but..in moments..I will walk out with my rain boots on (wet grasses ya know)..roll out the newfy from her outside den..and hike softly..into where..true Heaven is. Not in an afterlife..but here..upon a place where one can sweat, and strain..can get kinks and scrapes..and bruises..and..discover that ones body..is still..up for the weaving..of a new day. Heaven..good people..sings to us..at the end of our ..very own arms..if we use our brainpower. Remember history..both of where you each came from, and your parent genrations..came from. If..I were to..pop into the living space of each of you..out there..today..I could find a way in which you could actually ..provide a food -stuff…from your own ability. Heaven..is..and always has been..the ability to work, craft and create..bitch a bit..and laugh..cry, and blow ones nose on a shirt tail. (Should you try to use..anothers..shirt tail..there may be..a ..bit of a ..Dust Up! 😉

Looks like this could be our only sunny day here in July so far, and more rain forecast the rest of the week, so we’re off to mow and putter about the gardens and forest and revel in the sunshine. The pond and my “big bag of water” AKA my starter-pool, both look like good candidates for algae to bio-fuel conversion, but at least the frogs are happy…

I have tales to tell from NEA in DC, but will spin them (retroactively?) out on the porch when the rain returns. (Who got a hug and spoke with Richard Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO? thatcrowwoman there with the big Obama grin on her face and Brian at her side, that’s who)

http://www.salem-news.com/articles/july132012/atf-gunwalking-bd.php Rethuglicans claimed they wanted the truth about gun walking except they didn’t want you to know about gun walking under dumbass dubya. Hundreds of guns were walked in 2008 when Bush was Potus and Issa and Grassley conveniently ignored this while trying to indict Obama and Holder.

I wrote to our Iowa Rep Senator about this and today I actually received the response.
Thank you for taking the time to contact me. As your Senator, it is important for me to hear from you.

I appreciate hearing your concerns about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). I too share your concerns about the ATF and recent news stories about an ill-conceived investigation spearheaded by the ATF, named Operation Fast and Furious. As you know, Customs and Border Protection Agent Brian Terry was murdered in December 2010. A month after his death, whistleblowers within ATF came forward to my office and provided me evidence that two of the weapons found at Agent Terry’s murder scene were weapons linked to ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious. At this point the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is conducting an investigation into Agent Terry’s murder. Further, ATF whistleblowers provided my office with evidence that Operation Fast and Furious possibly let around 2,500 other weapons flow from gun stores in Phoenix, Arizona to Mexico and other localities in the United States.

I am deeply troubled at the thought of a government agency allowing guns to cross the border. Over the past months, I have requested DOJ to provide documentation regarding Operation Fast and Furious. DOJ at the beginning of my investigation had not provided me with a single document and has stonewalled my investigation. DOJ continues to be less than forthcoming. Due to this, I asked Congressman Issa, Chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, to help assist in receiving these documents. You may review the letters I have sent to DOJ and ATF on my website (www.grassley.senate.gov).

At this time, Chairman Issa has held hearings on June 15, July 26, December 8, and February 2, to get to the bottom of Operation Fast and Furious. Further hearings are planned and I, along with Chairman Issa, plan to get to the bottom of what happened.

On August 30, 2011, the ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson was moved out of his position at the ATF and the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona, Dennis Burke, resigned his position. Further ATF leadership changes have occurred on October 5, 2011, and those changes can be found be found on ATF’s website (http://www.atf.gov/press/releases/2011/10/100511-atf-atf-acting-director-jones-announces-new-staff-assignments.html).

Based on the evidence coming to light, on October 8th, 2011, Chairman Issa issued a subpoena to Attorney General Eric Holder and other Justice Department officials. This subpoena requires Attorney General Holder to produce all communications between and among DOJ employees and certain White House employees referring to or relating to Operation Fast and Furious or any other firearms trafficking cases.

On November 8, 2011, Attorney General Holder officially admitted that this case involved “weapons that should have been interdicted but were not.” Other documents provided have made several things clear. It is clear that senior officials discussed whether it would be wise for the head of the Department’s Criminal Division to attend press events given the number of guns that walked.

Additionally, the Attorney General’s current chief of staff took notes regarding operational details during a presentation on Operation Fast and Furious in March 2010. Finally, there is evidence that the connection between the guns found at Agent Terry’s murder scene and Operation Fast and Furious was immediately briefed up to the Attorney General’s current chief of staff just two days after Agent Terry’s death.

On December 7, 2011, I officially called for the resignation of Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General, and head of the Department of Justice Criminal Division. Additional evidence has been revealed that shows Breuer was connected to the drafting of a letter by the Justice Department denying that the ATF had ever walked guns. On May 2, 2011, instead of acknowledging the increasingly obvious facts and apologizing for its February letter, the Justice Department reiterated its denial. Months later the Justice Department revealed that Breuer had known about the gunwalking in Operation Wide Receiver as far back as April 2010.

When gunwalking allegations about Operation Wide Receiver was brought to Breuer’s attention in April 2010 he didn’t tell the Attorney General, the Attorney General’s Chief of Staff, the Deputy Attorney General, or the Inspector General. Rather, he simply told his deputy to meet with ATF leadership and inform them of the gunwalking “so they know the bad stuff could come out.”

For 18 months, the embarrassing truth about ATF gunwalking in Operation Wide Receiver and Breuer’s knowledge of it was successfully hidden. It only came out because of this Congressional investigation.

Breuer has lost my confidence in his ability to effectively serve the Justice Department. If he cannot be straight with Congress, he doesn’t need to be running the Criminal Division.

On June 20, 2012, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform began the process for the contempt of Congress charge against the Attorney General. The House committee voted 23-17 in favor of the charge.

Recently, the full House approved the resolution holding Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress by a vote of 255-67. Additionally, the House voted to authorize civil action in courts to compel production of subpoenaed documents.

When a person dies in service to his country, and his own government may have contributed to his death, covered up evidence about the circumstances, or both, the survivors’ families and the American people have a right to know the truth. That was the case with Pat Tillman, and it’s the case with Brian Terry. The government should own up to any policies and practices that led to the harm of Mexican citizens as well. Those who don’t seem to want the truth or accountability default to accusations of political motivation against those seeking answers. Remember, the Justice Department insisted there was no gun-walking, then retracted that statement and reversed itself. The Justice Department is proven unreliable on this topic. The only way to try to get an accurate, complete account of what happened to Agent Terry and why is to obtain every possible record and account of the facts. We can only draw fair, informed conclusions from the complete facts. The fulfillment of the House’s pursuit of complete records from the Justice Department is necessary. Without it, we might never know what happened to Agent Terry. That can’t stand.

Please rest assured I will keep your thoughts in mind as the investigation, and any follow-up legislative action occurs.

Thank you for taking time to contact me. Please keep in touch.

      Sincerely,

      Chuck
