Palin Proves Cheney’s “Mistake” Comment

Sarah Palin has responded to former Vice President Dick Cheney’s assertion that John McCain made a “mistake” by selecting her as his running mate in 2012. In an interview with Greta Van Susteren, Palin had this to say, thereby validating Mr. Cheney’s point, and proving the veracity of that old adage – “Better to be silent and thought a “mistake” than to speak and remove all doubt.” …or something like that.

“Well, seeing’s how Dick — excuse me, Vice President uh Cheney — never misfires, (enormous eye roll) then evidently he’s quite convinced that what he had uh evidently read about me by the lamestream media, having been written, uh uh what I believe is a false narrative over the last four years, evidently Dick Cheney believed that stuff and that’s a shame. So he characterized me as being a mistake.”

Dick, Dick, Dick… excuse me, Vice President Cheney… if you’d just stop allowing yourself to be brainwashed by the “lamestream” media.

More Commander-in-Chief material followed.

Here’s where the mistake would have been, Greta. I believe it’s had I not answered the call. I was honored to get to run for Vice President of the United States alongside Senator John McCain. I was honored to accept the nomination from the GOP, and um I thin that the mistake would have been me just um deciding that “Hey, I just love my 86-87% approval rating up there in Alaska as the governor – movin’ and shakin’ and watchin’ corrupt politicians and businessmen goin’ to prison for crony capitalism, uh working on 16-20% of domestic energy supplies being able to be increased via Alaska’s resource development. Ethics reform legislation that I was working on… that led to that 86% approval rating.

Actually the “crony capitalism” she refers to was actually the oil companies buying the votes of our legislators. 10% of them were indicted for bribery related charges. And the thing that got Palin her 86% approval rating was the fact that she knew the oil companies were screwing Alaska and its residents, and she actually tried to do something about it, resulting in an oil tax system which was made possible with the help of Democrats.

For some reason, that’s not the message she seems to want to get across now. Go figure.

“I could have decided, ‘I don’t want to be bloodied up. I don’t want my family to go through what we will have to go through in order to put ourselves forward in the name of service to this country,’ but I did it. It would have been a mistake to hunker down and just live that luxurious, if you will, that comfortable lifestyle in Alaska.”

It’s too bad she had to give up that luxurious lifestyle in Alaska and put her family through hell. But at least she did the right thing by suffering through this self-imposed austerity measure. We wish her a speedy recovery as she and her reclusive family try to get themselves back on the road to prosperity.

funny she mentions working on ethics reform which is the reason she quit the governorship. So I guess that’s a great accomplishment.

  2. Blato says:

I would pay to watch these two in a cage fight.

  3. Blato says:

Let’s put both of them in a cage and let them through feces at each other.

  4. AKjah says:

Really Dick should be inviting Sarah to go a hunting.

  5. The problem is that neither one of them, Sarah or Dick, have realized that their fifteen mintues of fame was over a long time ago and what they have to say is now unimportant and irrelavant. It is, however, rather entertaining to see them attacking each other. It’s like a microcosm of what is going on in the GOP overall.

    • COalmostNative says:

I agree- except the Romney campaign is using Cheney, and many of his Bush neocon cronies, as advisors. Expect Bush 3 the Sequel if Romney gets elected *shudder*

  6. mike from iowa says:

If there rilly is a god,how does anyone account for rwnj-especially Snookie and Darth Vader? If you can’t prove a negative and compound that with these two zeroes,is there any hope for any of us at all? And rilly between these two, what chance does that poor, defenseless bear cub have?

  7. Ripley in CT says:

You know that when she accuses someone of something, she’s actually guilty of it herself. It’s part of her pathology. She accuses Darth Cheney, a man who was second in command of the country, of using the media for all his information.

Umm, Mrs. Palin, put down the People magazine, the Star, and stop watching TV for a minute and pick up a newspaper. One from “outside” would probably be better, since you’ve decided to live out here. Not everyone uses the “lamestream” media for gossip about you. Really. And besides, isn’t FoxNews part of the media you hate so much? If there is a gossip channel on the tube, it’s that one. You, Mrs. Palin, are in fact the lamestream media.

I’m so glad she’s become irrelevant, but her vitriolic, dog whistle statements need to be shut down. While I cannot stand Darth Cheney, he is not only right here, but he’s got the “cojones” to say it outloud. Let’s see if he retracts it like so many others before him.

    Mittens/Paylin 2012 (Wink!)

  9. AKblue says:

She just can’t help herself, can she?
    Cheney should be in prison….

  10. Alaska Pi says:

    whatzername, whatzername, whatzername…
    Sigh.
Hon, evidently you have not been able to get out of the rut you chucked yourself into with the lamestream-media routine.
Assuming former Vice President Dick Uh Cheney relied solely on mainstream media coverage of your background, political stance, etc (shenanigans too) is silly It is worse than silly, it is stupid. The guy has tentacles in every corner of the Republican power structure and the crony-capitalist to rail against of your dreams and you yab on about the false-narrative-of-the-lamestream-media crap?
Aside from the fact that you change pieces of your own narrative more often than the rest of us change our underpants (remember when Dems got you that big approval rating, eh? Didn’t think so), you are a coward.
You just blew a real door opening, a real chance to nail Dick Uh as a crony capitalist who was/is of the ilk which made the messes we are dealing with and you derailed off into doors opening, getting bloodied up to stand for something and all that hoo-bobby?!?
    For crying out loud.
    Pffft!
That plate pf cookies hit the floor a long time ago, hon.
    Get off it.

  11. pswaterspirit says:

Sarah is such a dip weed………….at least she is entertaining now that she is not in danger of ending up in elected office :).

  12. Bifocal says:

Another version of the phrase is “Better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

  13. AK Raven says:

The Kenai River Bear Cub Rescue! article was very good! Something worth spending time reading & cheering for! Thanks!

  14. Hank Pharis says:

Palin was more qualified than Obama and he’s the President!
He had no executive experience and she had at least been a governor.

    • Alaska Pi says:

Yee haw! Blast from the past!
Thanks for letting this one through AKM!
We hadda have a laugh here! We did!
More proof of the mistakey stuff.
      🙂

    • TS says:

hahahahahaha – what else can you say – Palin was a Governor with NO executive experience – she still has no idea what a Governor is supposed to do.
Face reality – Palin is seriously short on brainpower – or to put it another way – she is dumb

      • AK_South says:

Nah, nah, nah! A dumb person is someone who can’t speak…….we should be so lucky! LOL!

    • GoI3ig says:

She got fewer votes to be mayor of Wasilla, than the senior class president at my high school.

The fact that she became governor of Alaska speaks volumes of the electorate. To steal a line from the ADN, “the smartest kid in the class, got beat by the most popular.”

    • John says:

John Adams had no executive experience. Abraham Lincoln had no executive experience. Truman had no executive experience. George H.W. Bush had no executive experience. Arguably, George W. Bush had no executive experience since Texas has a weak governor system. Prior experience in the Executive Branch of government can be useful for a president, but it isn’t the only thing we should look at. Palin’s biggest advantage as a VP candidate was her track record of working with Democrats to get ethics reform and equitable oil taxes in Alaska. She threw that away at the Republican convention when she came out attacking Democrats and all things bipartisan.

    • zyggy says:

Missy Quittypants quit her job as governor, she didn’t care about Alaska anymore, she was after fame and money. Lame excuse for her Hank, think of another.

    • Lacy Lady says:

I think her husband really was the one running things in Alaska. Didn’t he sit in on all the meeting?

    • MW That One..... says:

geez, Hank, you still don’t get it, or are you just kidding? Qualified in what way, again…?….she held office for 2 years, but that really doesn’t qualify her as having governed. She IS qualified for show biz and comedy routines. imho.

    • kiksadi50 says:

You don’t know much re Alaska if you think being Gov. for less than 2 yrs. in this state (she was campaigning during the first half) qualifies anyone to assume, if necessary, the role of POTUS. I grew up in Alaska but I don’t fool myself about it’s political sophistication and I have traveled outside of the U.S. a lot. I also read newspapers that are longer than my local paper which is 4 pgs & listen to radio that originates outside of the U.S. 3.5 yrs. ago Sara could not have defined the differences between the 3 branches of Gov.,let alone what the duties of a V.P. are.The long reigns of Ted Stevens,Frank Murkowski and Young, tell you everything you need to know re Alaskan politics.Sara’s constant harping on her role as the Martyr/Terminator of “crony capitalism” in Alaska has been way overestimated. Besides, when she quit, she stuck us with Parnell, who is an other unethical “crony capitalist” wanna be who is too stupid to realize that he is being used by the crony’s who thinks he’s a joke.

  15. beth. says:

[[ “,,, his running mate in 2012.” Oooops — four years too many in the timeline of the McCain/Palin disaster and the start of her regularly and relentlessly sliming her ‘special’ brand of ignorant ugly upon all US citizens, I think. beth.]]

  16. wallflower says:

Please, people, it’s Vice-President Dick Uh Cheney. Get it right.

  17. Zyxomma says:

WTF is that *thing* on her head? It looks like a drowned animal, but I’m damned if I know what kind of critter it be.

    • beth. says:

      At first, I thought: Muskrat…but it’s too long. Then I thought: Yak — it’s long enough…but…

      Heck, got me flumoxed, too.

      Hmmm; let’s see…

It’s been fairly recently washed… (a new activity for her, apparenty). And combed (ditto)..

I think it’s definitely some sort of road kill.

I will say this for it, though: The over-all bump-it works well…it’s more like she’s wearing an inverted bowl atop her haid and has plunked her ‘hair’ atop of that. It works…after a fashion.

And yet, and yet…I do rather miss her solo bump-it. beth.

    • leenie17 says:

      Musk ox?

  18. Mo says:

Yeah, Dick Cheney is seriously concerned about whatever $arah “Bullseye” Palin “thinks.”

“Romney was expected to raise at least $4 million at two events helmed by Cheney. The first was held at a Wyoming country club where, according to NBC News, many attendees were “dressed in their Western finest — dark cowboy boots with suits.” More than 500 donors paid $1,000 to $10,000 to hear Cheney and Romney speak, and dine on “prosciutto-wrapped shrimp, potstickers and crostini” paired with “wine and Amstel Lights.” Later, roughly 250 donors, who paid $30,000 each, had a private dinner at Cheney’s home.’

    Not exactly Chick-fil-A, eh?

I wonder if Cheney’s staff has managed to scrub $arah’s greasy palmprints off that outside window yet.

  19. HoboJohn says:

Well a mistak for Dick is really bad he never said Iraq was a mistake or shooting his buddy in the face was a mistake. So a mistake for Dick is like biblical failure.

This is the first and probably last thing Dick and I agree on.

    • Lacy Lady says:

You got that right! I too thought this was the only thing Dick Chenney ever got right.
And I see that he is not stopping sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong. What the hell is he doing telling his Rep friends what to do about our defence budget. Is he wanting us to fight another war?

      • leenie17 says:

Does he still have any financial stake in Halliburton (or whatever they’re calling it these days)?

        • Lacy Lady says:

Do you mean that “hidden” trust thingy? as it was called when he was Vice Pres.

    • Carol says:

Dick Cheney has no problems admitting to a mistake – SOMEONE ELSE’S. The things that were his mistakes – well, those weren’t mistakes at all.
