Meanwhile, In Shell’s PR Office…

kullukfromabove

Following the loss of control and subsequent grounding of the Shell drilling rig, Kulluk, that company’s PR team goes to work.

Sitting in PR headquarters, mostly silent, members of the PR team wracked their brains trying to find a way to at least mitigate some of the negative publicity being aimed at the corporation.

Then it came. One member of the team jumped up and exclaimed, “I’ve got it! Let’s spend some money on Facebook and try to get some extra ‘Likes’ over this whole thing!”

ShellFB

And everyone at Shell agreed.

The end.

A mature economy ALWAYS requires moving away from extractive industries. Mining, drilling, logging, and trawling should not be Alaska’s future, and AK’s present should be focused on preserving and protecting its incredible resources for future generations to enjoy.

    Health and peace.

It sickens me that these corporations suddenly “care” about being responsible citizens when something goes wrong. It is only the negative exposure that gets their attention.

I understand that Shell provided lawyers for all the crew members on the sister ship Discover (?) as the coast guard is looking into criminal charges imvolving both rigs– and Shell was trying to move the Kullik rapidly out of AK waters, so it wouldn’t have to pay taxes.

Very classy, Shell… I’m not sure any amount of Facebook entries will help.

Not Shell, Noble who operates the Disco provided the lawyers. Noble was responsible for what was happening on both drill ships. The criminal charges were only related to the Disco. The Kulluk was inspected and only had a few issues related to watertight doors they needed to fix prior to the tow. Those were corrected. Can’t say anything about the tax situation, but really feel for the crew who were in harms way. These folks are just trying to support their families, same as everyone else. Just imagine trying to ride on a bobber in 40 foot seas, not pretty!
