Former First Lady Smacks Down Gov’s Oil Tax Plan

bella

Alaska’s beloved former First Lady, Bella Hammond

Today former Governor Jay Hammond’s widow Bella and his daughter Heidi Hammond have called for a TV ad from a group calling themselves “Resource Full Alaska” exploiting Jay Hammond to be stopped immediately. The ad has the brass cojones to compare Jay Hammond, arguably Alaska’s most popular former governor, to its current oil shill CEO Sean Parnell. The ad calls on the legislature to pass Parnell’s oil tax plan which would drain the state’s coffers to the tune of $2 billion a year.

“I was never consulted about this television ad,” said the former First Lady.

“Jay Hammond never would have proposed giving away Alaska’s resources, and he certainly wouldn’t have supported Parnell’s plan.”

And thus, a sweet old 80-something lady from her cabin in remote Lake Clark, Alaska, hands the administration and the entire oil cabal their backsides.

She and her daughter Heidi went on to demand that “Resource Full Alaska” and the ad’s narrator Glenn Hackney withdraw the ad immediately. “This television ad misappropriates former Governor Hammond’s legacy and his good name,” said the Hammonds.

Take that Governor Parnell. The only people who deserve to have a bad name because of your oil tax plan are you, and anyone in the legislature who votes for it.

The announcement came from the group Backbone, a nonpartisan organization which supports the Constitutional requirement that Alaskans receive the “maximum benefit” from resource development. No comments so far from the Republicans who continually squawk about the Constitution, and yet ignore anything that does not suit their conservative social ideology, and/or line the pockets of the wealthiest multi-national resource extractors on the planet.

Backbone successfully opposed the BP/Arco merger and has opposed legislation which would cut oil taxes without any public benefits, including the current bill proposed by Governor Parnell.

Hear me now. If you get tired of your treasured ladies and gentlemen, place a stamp on them and send them to mike from iowa. iowa is in dire need of treasured statesmen and women. Old school Rs would be welcome additions to the nabbobery that passes for conservatism now.

  2. Mad as hell says:

I knew Jay Hammond. Jay Hammond was a friend of mine. You, Governor, are no Jay Hammond.

  3. tallimat says:

Yeah my household saw that “commerical” with Hackney.
We laughed cause Parnell ain’t no Hammond.

    PARNELL IS A PIPELINE KID…

    HAMMOND IS A ALASKAN STATESMAN.

PARNELL WORKED FOR EXXON AND AGAINST ANYTHING PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND.
To compare him to Hammond is laughable. And shows desperation.
Any elder, such as Hackney, that even attempts to make a comparison is clearly lost in the clouds.
Has anybody checked Hackney’s blood oxgen levels?

As for Bella, what can one say.
    She is Alaska’s jewel.

  4. EatWildFish says:

Shades of (sub)Parnell wearing a Hulk tie a la Ted Stevens.
He is such a wimp he has to glom onto others’ glory hoping some of their charisma will rub off on him.
    No way ….

Wow. It’s really interesting to see what’s going on on the other side of the continent. I hope Bella succeeds in making Alaska’s legislative bodies aware of what a ripoff Parnell proposed.

  6. mike from iowa says:

Way to go former First Lady. Now bitch slap Parnell, once for me,and then once for every star and stripe in “Old Glory”. Then sue for damages to your hand and reputation.(about two bil a year for the next five years sounds about right)

  7. AKjah says:

Kudos Bella for standing for your name.

This puts Parnell lower than humpy slim. And i doubt anyone will tell him how negative this has all been for him. Must keep those ad dollars going. So who is making money off of these ads? I mean directly. I am not doubting Parnell is that stupid, i just imagine it was sold sight unseen. Second thought that this just makes Parnell that frikin stupid.

    • AKMagpie says:

I thnk this ad must have been made by the same advertising company that makes ads promoting the Pebble Mine. Slick ads selling snake oil.

  8. AKblue says:

I hope the above gets published in all the state’s newpapers.

  9. Jag24 says:

How dare they try to use her name and Jay’s reputation like they did. Sean Parnell is nothing but a whore trying to latch on to someone of good repute and he knows it. He stoops to conquer.

Thank you for speaking out, Bella! Hopefully this sound spanking will put him in his place.

The Governor’s oil tax bill is like the permanent fund in the same way spending money is like saving money.
