VOTE!…Election Odds & Ends

Alaska Vote

Today is the big day!!! Today is the first Municipal Election after the debacle that was last year.

However, with Barbara Jones as Municipal Clerk and Amanda Moser in charge of Elections, things should run pretty smoothly overall this year. (If we could just get rid of those @#$% voting machines.)

Here’s just a quick post answering questions I’ve been getting the last couple of days on Facebook, email and via phone:

— Location, location, location — Don’t know where to vote? You can type in your address here at “My Neighborhood” and it will give you your precinct. As some have changed due to do a much smaller-impact Municipal redistricting plan it’s a good idea to check it.

— Voter ID (from the FAQs on the Municipal Election Website) — In Anchorage, one does not need to have a picture ID to vote. The acceptable IDs are:

– signed voter ID card, driver’s license, state ID card, or military ID card;
– passport, hunting or fishing license; or
– other current or valid photo identification.

You may also present one of the following forms of identification if it includes your name and current address:

– current utility bill or pay check;
– government check or bank statement; or
– other government issued document.

If you have no ID at all, you may vote a question ballot.

— Explanation of the Ballot by the League of Women Voters — this is important information for those who don’t understand what the Propositions are, and what they mean.

There is also information on voting from Alaska Center for the Environment

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR THE SCHOOL BOND!!!!!!

If you have any questions, issues, etc…you can visit the Muni Elections Site or you can call 243-VOTE.

I’ll see you guys out there!

    This is OT, but since your elected representatives may help determine the fate of the disgusting enterprise with the cutesy-pie name Pebble Mine (as if it were a character from the Flintstones), it’s important that you know what you’re up against. I came across a blog showing the devastation of an open pit copper/molybdenum/gold mine in Tibet. Please note that the Google Earth photos posted are from 2011.

    Yes, this is the same mine that just buried 83 people in a landslide. NO Pebble. Not now, not ever.

    Have a clean election, Anchorage. Best of luck.

    Good luck Anchorage, may you have a safe, normal election.
