Begich on a Palin Senate Run

Remember that line from Brokeback Mountain, “I wish I knew how to quit you?”

Well if Sarah Palin were Jake Gyllenhaal and Alaska were Heath Ledger, she’d have been all, “I’m outta here!”

And now that she’s considering a run for the Senate in the very state she quit, the Senator whose seat she’s looking to fill had a few things to say about that.

“I don’t know if she’s a resident. She’s been away from Alaska a lot and has probably lost touch with what’s going on… “Most Alaskans I see on a pretty regular basis, but I haven’t seen her for a long time,” Begich told Politico on Wednesday.

As a matter of fact, he questioned her residency status FOUR times in the interview. He also questioned her ability to win a primary.

The primary including Palin is an interesting scenario. The far-right base will be represented more heavily by those who vote in the primary. It’s just the nature of the beast that the most impassioned voters on the right and the left tend to be the ones to show up in August while everyone else is off fishing, or gardening, and waiting to see who wins.

So, in a Miller vs. Treadwell primary, Miller has the advantage.

In a Miller/Treadwell/Sullivan primary, Miller has a double advantage because Treadwell and Sullivan (DNR commissioner, not Mayor) split the non-Tea Party vote, leaving Miller with the big slice of the pie.

BUT, if you throw Sarah Palin in the mix, it’s totally different.

With Miller/Treadwell/Palin, the base splits between Miller and Palin possibly leaving Treadwell a shot.

With Miller/Treadwell/Palin/Sullivan, who knows what would happen, but it wouldn’t take much to put one of them over the top.

“A Republican primary in Alaska? She may not survive,” Begich said.

“I take every candidate seriously — that is, if she’s still a resident, but you know she quit on Alaska when she was governor,” Begich said. “She’s been somewhat vacant from the state and quit on the state, so I wish her the best on her potential run.”

In other words, “Quitters never win, and winners never quit! Quit, quit, quit. Quitter! You’re fulla quit! Quitty McQuitquit! Quitasaurus! Quitalotacus! Holy Quit! The Quitster.”

That’s pretty much all anyone who runs against Sarah Palin will have to say.

But as much as Begich dismissed Palin, there was someone else he was busy inflating.

“He’s a new-and-improved Joe Miller, people have not seen his press releases,” Begich said. “It’s a much different Joe Miller than two years ago. More professional — he has people around him, very focused.”

Rut-roh. He has “people,” and they are “focused.” HE’s the one you’ve got to watch. Now THAT’s a candidate right there.

Why the love for Joe Miller? Probably because he’s Begich’s dream opponent. Recent polling suggests the Begich vs. Miller scenario works out best for the incumbent, to the tune of 56% to 29%. The same poll shows Begich leading Palin by only 7 points. And if Palin doesn’t get in the race, Miller is more likely to walk away with the Republican nomination. He’s done it before and he can most certainly do it again.

But, Palin will have some ‘splainin to do in another area, said Begich in a rather awkward soundbite.

She will have to “explain why when she was governor she talked about getting a gas line, never happened. I’ll be able to talk about how I talked about getting the Arctic open for exploration: We did it. So she’ll have work to do.”

That’s right Ms. Quittypants, Mr. Democrat is drillier than you. Pththhthththhthhh!

And also, too, though… you QUIT.

It seems to be a trend with politicians…sounds like someone convinced them that the public would be forgiving of their behavior WHILE serving the public in an official capacity…and that is suppose to be all right with the deer in headlight voters they think they can fool…most of the voters remember what happened WHILE in office…and if we did such things we certainly wouldn’t be trying to run for a public office…more like sharing cell block…now why does that happen that way…money does buy everything…when that well runs dry then what?

    $arah who?

I think that the reason Palin posts receive so much traffic is that she is indeed a “cancer” (in the words of David Brooks) but not just on the GOP…she represents all that is wrong in American politics. She calls herself a Christian but is filled with so much hate that constantly escapes through her rhetoric. She is not the best that a country can off she is the worst. Her entrance onto the national stage has brought embarrassment to the country and has allowed the most vile elements of society to come forward, giving them a platform to through red meat to their like-minded supporters. I could go on but I think we’re all on the same page here.

Palin has risen to prominence but remains a fraud. She has used the people of Alaska far too long, knowing that her association with the state gives her a certain power. She pretends to be connected by continually claiming her Alaskan-ness as her mantle but she has long left the state and its people even if she still resides part-time in the territory. It’s time for Alaskans to tell the world that Ms. Palin abandoned her Alaskan roots years ago just as she abandoned her post as an elected official.

As she parades around the country espousing her love of her state and how she wants to fight for it and her party, the country needs to know that she is once again a fraud and a phony.

$arah uses Alaska as a prop.

And you’re right OMG: In recent years several articles have been written about how the tone of American politics took on a hateful, divisive edge ever since Palin came on the scene, especially with her use of gun memes. What a total embarrassment $he is to Alaska and Amurica…

Ever wonder what it feels like waiting for that first taste of steel between your fourth and fifth ribs? Miller’s got that “look”.

  6. beth. says:

What ever happened to Scott? No more politics for him? I surely would’ve 100% supported him. He was logical. And truthful. Also, too. beth.

She’ll always be known as a quitter. BTW, Missy Mudflat, you had me laughing out loud with this article. Thank you for that.

Look how flat chested Paylin is in the above picture — before she launched her blow up boobs!

    Tacky, I know — just sayin’ …

She’s got Miller hornswoggled so bad he’s trying to cop a feel from the wrong side. Iz that the leadership Alaskan’s deserve?

  9. PJC says:

“do not discredit the moron factor…” That made me laugh. When I was a newspaper reporter I was assigned coverage of the local Republican and had to spend my evening at his “election party” awaiting results. The guy is a total right wing fundy. I interviewed a sweet little old lady who was there to ask why she supported him and she responded that he would help the environment, assure government help for the elderly, keep the frackers from ruining the state, etc. On and on, I was floored. This was exactly what he didn’t promise, won’t do, hasn’t done, yet she had a vision that he would do this because he she met him at church or somewhere and thought he was a “nice guy.”

As for Palin, her current tweets and attack “posters” make her look, once again, like a bitter, angry hag -rather than a smart, electable person (who quits).

  10. Carol says:

Listening to radio last night, apparently no one in the Republican establishment has heard from Palin about a possible run. Ralph Seekins went to far as to wonder if she would try a 3rd party run. She won’t run, she’s in anything for only the money and spotlight. She has a book coming out, she wants her name out there so she can fleece those who might consider buying a book with her name on it (not that she’d write it). She won’t run because people will ask about tax returns, does anyone really think she’d reveal how much she makes? Does she tithe to a church? That would show on a return. I’ve heard (have not checked or know how to) she hasn’t filed for a PFD for a year or 2. If she isn’t filing for a PFD, she’s not a resident. Someone said they’re organizing a group called LISP (Let’s Ignore Sarah Palin) and then listhed the reathonth for ignoring Tharah Palin. Should have written it down, was quite good.
Mark’s the best bet we have for any progress; I don’t agree with all his votes, but he is sure better than anyone else who is expressing interest in a Senate seat.

    • slipstream says:

The PFD fund puts a listing of applicants online. This makes it easy to report fraud: if you know somebody has moved out of state, and they have applied for a dividend, report them. A fraudulent dividend reduces your dividend slightly; multiply that by a thousand or so cheaters and you are out some bucks.

Here’s the listing of all “PALIN” last names in the 2013 applicant database. No Sarah.

      PALIN BRISTOL
      PALIN DIANA D
      PALIN FAYE IRENE
      PALIN JAMES DEAN
      PALIN JAMES FREDERICK
      PALIN KYLA GRACE
      PALIN LUZVIMINDA SERENO
      PALIN MIRANDA
      PALIN PIPER
      PALIN TODD
      PALIN TRACK
      PALIN TRIG
      PALIN VICTORIA ROSE
      PALIN WENDY ANN

  11. simple mind says:

Begich has to know that next to money, Palin’s greatest motivator is ego. This interview is the political equivalent of “I double-triple dare you” to run. I think that Begich’s best bet is to run against a Tea-bagger – the nuttier, the better. The Tea-party vote is gone. He’ll never get it and won’t even try. So the play is for moderates and to try to convince liberals that Begich is worth the effort. His worst case is a Begich vs Treadwell/Sullivan (“yawn”). Most people will be too bored to vote and many moderates will think that old Mead / Dan isn’t too bad. On the other hand, Murkowski showed what a motivator running against a loony-tune can be. How many Alaskans came out and wrote in Lisa’s name just to make sure that Miller lost? I’m sure Begich would rather face Miller, who will have little money and less credibility, but I suspect he sees a run against Palin as better than a sleeper with Treadwell or Sullivan.

  12. benlomond2 says:

Interesting how we all gotten more involved everytime Palin opened up her mouth… She represents the lowest common denominator in American politics, anti-everything that needs to be improved, Name a topic, and she is against any efforts , even within her own party,, to resolve it. The appeal to people who want the world to stop because it is moving too fast for them is powerful, and even though the facts and nuances are often communicated, there are a vast number of people that tru either lack of education or simple “head in the sand” mentality refuse to look at issues in a cold logical fashion. It’s simply easier to deny a need for change and stay with the status quo, no matter how miserable it might make one’s life. That is Sarah’s appeal, and she does it probably better than most politicans. Until Americans decide they aren’t going to be afraid of change, we’ll continue to see people like her on the National stage.

    • COalmostNative says:

So true! The problem is this attitude opens the door for Koch Brothers (Minimum wage holds progress back), Perry/Santorum’s return to the Fifties (Father Knows Best), and the rest of these scaliwags to accelerate the widening gap between the Elite 1% and the rest of us.

  13. EatWildFish says:

J(ok)e Miller might be ‘new and improved’ — but he’s still been proven to be a liar, grifter, cheater and thief.

As for Paylin – for her, even negative attention is better than no attention at all. But methinks the amped up scrutiny of $arah’s past is going to rip her to shreds. Her clan also too.

    Get out the popcorn!

    $creech!!

“but he’s still been proven to be a liar, grifter, cheater and thief.”
you say that has if it is a bad thing to an alaskan republican/libertarian

To alaska republicans and independents that vote conservative he is one of them.
Alaska republican party and the conservative/libertarian ideology are based on “whatever it takes to make a profit.”
They are joe and joe is they.

do not discount the moron factor in the alaska electorate, it runs deep.

i have lost respect for begich, democrat my a$$ !!
