Rural Update – Rebuilding Eagle and How You Can Help!

eagleflood11

~~The house of Mudflatter Yukonbushgrma~~

Just got the following message from yukonbushgrma out in flood-ravaged Eagle.  The City of Eagle is now collecting relief donations via a Paypal account, so those of you who wish to help in that way, here are the directions

*************************************************************

[By Yukonbushgrma]

We finally have the specifics on how folks can donate to “Rebuild Eagle” via Paypal. Thanks to everyone for patiently waiting while we got the account set up!

And PLEASE — if you wish, please spread the word to everyone in your address book!

This Paypal fund, “Rebuild Eagle,” is set up to benefit those who have lost their homes in the recent ice/flood devastation in the Eagle, Alaska area, and need to rebuild. The fund is managed by the City of Eagle.

If you are already registered with Paypal:

Go to www.paypal.com

Login with your email address and password

Select “send money” tab

Enter the email address to send the funds to: cecflood09@hughes.net

(note that the email ends in “zero nine”, not the letter ‘o’ nine)

Enter your donation amount and select “services/other”

Hit “CONTINUE”

Select your bank account, e-check, or credit card/debit card

Important: In the optional “message” at the bottom, PLEASE note it’s for “Rebuild Eagle – from a Mudflatter”

and finish as prompted

If you are NOT registered with Paypal:

Go to www.paypal.com

REGISTER and provide the required information (bank acct, credit cd)

When confirmed, go back to www.paypal.com, log in, and do the above!

At some point in the way-distant future, I hope to get a handle on this and report what came in from Mudflatters. But don’t hold your breath — it could take me quite a while.

Donating is very easy — and once again, never-ending thanks to Mudflatters for your unbelievably passionate concern. You are one incredible community!

***************************************************************

HELP MUDFLATS KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!

The Mudflats community is going to try to raise the funds to purchase a pressure washer, a hose and some other supporting equipment and supplies for use by the citizens of Eagle to clean the grime, silt, oil, and debris off of buildings and building supplies.

You can donate to my paypal button above to designate donations to this, and include the note PRESSURE WASHER in your payment so I know what it’s for.  You’ll see a little box during the payment process where you can leave a note.  I will keep you all posted on how we do with this effort, and any surplus money will go to the Rebuild Eagle fund described above.

If we succeed, the brand new pressure washer will be one of the things on the Hope Truck heading north to Eagle on May 29th!  Don’t forget to email Hope at eagletruck@live.com if you are on the road system between Kenai and Wasilla and have items to donate.  Specifics are HERE.

DONATIONS FOR DOGS!

And for those of you interested in helping the dogs all along the Yukon, this is how to do it.  It’s estimated that at least 1,400 bags of food will be needed to tide the dogs over until July when the salmon come in.

IN FAIRBANKS

Drop off at the Civil Air Patrol hanger in Fairbanks at 3855 S University Avenue (East Ramp, Fairbanks International Airport). During working hours the dog food can be dropped off inside; at other times drop on the pallets outside the hanger.

OUTSIDE OF FAIRBANKS Order dog food from a store in Fairbanks and ask them to drop off the food at the Civil Air Patrol hanger in Fairbanks. Via Credit Card.

Call:
49er Dog Food Store in Fairbanks (907) 488-4999

OR
Coldspot Feeds. (907) 457-8555

IN ANCHORAGE

Drop off at the Alaska Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASCPA), 549 W International Airport Rd (907-562-2999) Deliveries ONLY Weekdays from 10AM to 4PM.

And as always, every little bit helps.  There are many ways to help, and I hope Mudflatters will share their stories about how they’ve contributed.

I think UKMAN is hooked!! 🙂

  2. UK Lady says:

LOL, I think UKMAN is reading Mudflats now behind my back. I was out this afternoon at a family BBQ, he didn’t go coz of his ‘manflu’. When I got home we were sitting in the garden having a cuppa when he suddenly says, what’s going on with that lady who’s house was wrecked? I said I was waiting for some money to come in and was then going to sign up for paypal to send a little. He says, don’t worry I’ll do it for us on my account. WOW.

Then he goes on to say it is awful you can’t get insurance and that you don’t get enough help from the government, Hhmmm!, so how did he know that then? Anyway, he was good as his word and we sent a little to you via Mudflats.

    Yukonbushgrma and AKM

Thanks for making this so easy! I just funded the “Rebuild Eagle” account (Paypal) and AKM’s Paypal for the Pressure Cleaner. I will be calling tomorrow for dog and cat food (too late tonight). I sincerely hope this will help and wish I could do more. I hope everyone and all their fur babies are all faring well in all of this. Keep us posted on how it is going.

So sorry for what you are going through. I love your strength and spirit in spite of all you have endured.

  8. TiredMom says:

Okay, done on my end, sorta! A little bit sent directly to the rebuild Eagle fund, a little bit to AKM for the power washer and I had to leave a message at the feed store, as they were too busy with other customers …. bet they have been inundated with Mudpuppy calls! If they don’t call back, I’ll keep calling them over the next few hours.

It feels so nice to be of help to Mudpups after they have been so helpful to me!!! I received another beautiful batch of flowers, various shades of purple violets, I promise as soon as I can type an appropriate thank you without flooding my keyboard I will post on the I heart Mudflats blog — love you guys and gals!!

You are great to put the work out AKM! Palin would not even THINK of doing anything like this UNLESS it was her dairy farmer friends asking for help! She jumps through hoops when it comes to COWS! Human beings who have lost everything due to flooding……ugh….not so much! She is a piece of work! Another year and a half and we can be done with her. Hard telling how much damage she will inflict by then……………….sigh……………….

  11. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

i sure would like to get in that pickup with hope.

    guess not this time though.

If we ever get a tsunami down here on the North Oregon Coast, I expect you guys to come down here and rescue me!

Does Brian poop in the woods ?? YES !! of course we will !! I am tapped right now because of taxes and my 15 yr. old son’s trip to Carnegie Hall in NYC in June. He and his Orchestra from high school are playing on Sat. the 13th at 8 pm. But I’m busting my patootee on the forum helping with the PW. Also de-lurked a mudpuppie who is helping out BIGTIME at the Lowes where Hope is headed on the 29th.

  15. Basheert says:

Yup – me too in Phoenix!
But my MudRags wanted to help out so they convinced me to make the call.

  16. Gramiam says:

Basheert, You must have called right after I did. David said I was the call from farthest away. ROFL! I’m in Phoenix and you are in AZ too aren’t you?

Coldspot Feeds has a special on their high performance kibble; two big bags are off to the Civil Air Patrol hangar. They were very helpful-
    ************************************************************************************
Just talked to David at Coldspot feeds and another 40 lb sack of High Performance kibble is on the pallet. Got to take care of our canine mudpuppies. Can’t think of a better use for my own stimulus money. Try to veto THAT, Sarah Palin!!!! Gotta go do the Paypal thingie next.

  18. Basheert says:

I just talked to Coldspot Foods and there are 3 bags heading off to the hanger from the Ragdoll Cats in Arizona!!!

    Nice guys too.

  19. InJuneau says:

Kajo–we’ll be there in a jiffy, unless it’s come from us and we can’t get there!

  20. KaJo says:

This has been a strange month for expenses for me and mine — tires for the car, 30,000 mile service for the car, and a solenoid to be replaced, all quite expensive — luckily, though, I’ve been able to actually save money since last fall, so I have enough despite being on a fixed income to pay those bills and find a C note for Eagle.

If we ever get a tsunami down here on the North Oregon Coast, I expect you guys to come down here and rescue me!

  21. Irishgirl says:

No, Owhole1, I don’t imagine she does…unless it is for one of her dubious funds.

  22. 0whole1 says:

Does the governor twitter helpful stuff like this, or just complaints about pajamas-clad desperadoes and electronic huzzahs about dodgin’ the long arm of the law?

  23. Irishgirl says:

I’ve done the Paypal thing too…wish it could have been more, but I have car tax and insurance to pay next!!

  24. justafarmer says:

On one of the first flood threads in the forum, YBG mentioned a need for alarm clocks, so my last box included four small dollar store clocks (and a pack of AA batteries because batteries were not included).
Having survived numerous disasters in my life (spring floods in Buffalo, NY, tornadoes in Illinois, and ice storms/regular power outages here in eastern Kentucky) I’ve got some first-hand experience in what things I really miss and/or need when Mother Nature comes calling. I wouldn’t have thought of alarm clocks because my clocks are battery-operated and I also have a dog pack that starts with the pp dance before dawn.
The major thing I *always* miss in a disaster is the luxury of a hot bubble bath. Just can’t heat enough water on the woodstove for that 🙂
BTW, I’ve got the hose covered, pre-paid (about $30-35 for a 100-feet) at the Anchorage Lowes ready for Hope to pick it up. But it’s my experience one can never have too many hoses!

  25. CO almost native says:

Coldspot Feeds has a special on their high performance kibble; two big bags are off to the Civil Air Patrol hangar. They were very helpful- Of course, my two are very disappointed they didn’t get to sample the food first…just to make sure it is fine for their new-found friends in Eagle. (heh heh, clever devils)

  26. honestyinGov says:

Maybe between now and the 29th someone here, or a friend of someone, might volunteer or be able to get time off to make the journey WITH Hope… as an extra set of helping hands. She could use the help along the way.

IE : Maybe someone who has some adult teenagers who could volunteer…?
The extra set of hands could take some video as well (and pictures) to document it. Sort of a mini-documentary like Pelosi’s daughter did during the campaign.

How about it High School journalists or reporters… NOW is Your chance.
    Record it for history.

  27. InJuneau says:

    Good doggies!

  28. CO almost native says:

I sent a donation via PayPal, and it was very easy. Now I’m off to call one of the pet stores– my doggies insist on donating food 🙂

  29. InJuneau says:

    oops, “going” maybe?!?

  30. InJuneau says:

Sounds like things are goind well, and I’m sorry we don’t live on the road system just for this occassion (ALL the rest of the time I’m happy down here in roadless land!). I’ll figure out some donations by next week.

  31. Forty Watt says:

This is what we’re best at, Mudpuppies — mobilizing our forces. I’ve done the paypal thing, the quickest easiest approach. Now, I’ll make some phone calls about the dog food.

  32. austintx says:

AKM – Thanks for putting the info up on a thread. We are working on the PW and have a brand new mudpup who is helping SO VERY MUCH. Come on guys , let’s help YBG and all of Eagle.

  33. BigSlick says:

I wish I could just send my pressure washer but the postage would cost more than the item…..
