While hunting in the Douglas woods last week, Bryce Iverson and Matt Kern found a spruce tree growing the largest tree burl they — or anyone they talked to — had ever seen. While fungi can be the cause for burls on some tree species, no one knows what causes burls on Sitka spruce trees, said Forest Service research forest pathologist Paul Hennon.

        I wuz in bed by 2 PM your time last night,alone,sober and curled up with a Max Brand western. SE wind plummeted house temp to 55 degrees yesterday. Below zero nights suck and make mikey unkappy. Happy New Year and looking forward to better days.

          We are still way too warm- over 40 deg and rain. Cold front due to move in in a few days. Hope so.Dadgum garden is starting to act like it is waking up… can’t have that! Waaaayyyy too early!
          I never make midnight for new year but I did last til 9PM my time.
          Hoping for warmer days there, cooler ones here, and lots o better days for all ‘pups !
