ABC – Canada Border Hours Worry Residents in Small Alaska Town

Residents in a small southeast Alaska community are worried that overnight closure of the Canada border will hurt safety and the local economy.

The Canada Border Services Agency said Friday the new hours would be 8 a.m. to midnight daily for the border between Alaska’s Hyder and the British Columbia town of Stewart. The decision was made because the station was “underutilized outside of primary operating hours,” said agency spokeswoman Stefanie Wudel.

LA Times – The reality is there’s plenty of fake TV shows in Alaska

Is this mortifying era of northern overexposure ever going to end?

Here in Alaska, TV crews have been everywhere the last few years, clutching scripts for “unscripted” shows and handing out confidentiality agreements, asking us to play along. A friend in my hometown who runs a cute bakery by the beach turned down six different producers in the last year. Not everyone is so selective. Several dozen of these “reality” shows have made it to cable — most of them populated by nutty eccentrics and paid for with state subsidies.

The Guardian – Wisconsin progressives size up political landscape after union defeats

“The solidarity sing-a-long has maintained free speech rights at the capitol,” Nicole Desautels said, as she stood behind singers who were belting out progressive favorites.

IBTimes – Chris Christie Backed Law That Lets Him Divert ExxonMobil Settlement From Environmental Cleanup

Only three months before New Jersey agreed to accept $250 million in cash from ExxonMobil to settle claims the oil giant sullied public land, Gov. Chris Christie was still signaling a hard line. The governor called the ecological damage from the firm’s refining operations “staggering and unprecedented,” and his administration continued to pursue a state lawsuit seeking nearly $9 billion in damages. – Map: 16 states have more people in prisons and jails than college housing

TeleSur – How ISIS Became the Face of Evil

The Islamic State’s gruesome propaganda serves its purposes well, and those of the United States too.

The U.S. government and the Islamic State were made for each other. Each portrays the other as sadistic tyrants. Each has grand power ambitions. Each uses slick propaganda to sell their war to supporters.

Bambi is gonna get us all.

Birds are only the beginning. We invite them to bb-qs and the next thing you know Ted Nugent is backstraps for Bambi. Hip-hip Hooray!

Good one,Dagian. I just saw Don Young’s quote over at Juanita Jeans and was going to copy and paste it here.

Here is a quote from your famous ex-half guv quitter in which it sounds like she is comparing herself to a notorious historical figure said to walk on water.

Palin responded to the criticism by noting that she had used one of Bristol’s reusable bags when she had made a run to the grocery store for ingredients for her moose chili. “It’s good environmental stewardship to reuse bags”, Palin said, “but the Left and the lamestream media would criticize me no matter what I do. If I walked on Lake Lucille, they would say it was because I couldn’t swim”.

Wingnut outreach to minorities in a cartoon. Funny and typical.

Seven below this morning,Slip. Maybe 60s next week. Spring is on the way,but there will be some setbacks.

40 above here. Very dangerous, because people are in the habit of walking (or snowmachining) on frozen lakes and rivers in March, and the ice is failing them. One dead at Hidden Lake yesterday, and two people searching for him also broke through the ice. Watch out, folks.

Here is a picture of wingnuts when the call came to vote for DHS funding.

or…..maybe it was conscientious Dems when Netanhahoo was gonna propagandize congress.

  7. mike from iowa says:

Here on the farm we pray for the destruction of mulberry trees. The damn things pop up everywhere the birds and beasts deposit seeds and they grow fast. Spent many hot summer days crawling through rows of honeysuckle and lilac bushes rooting out these spawn of the wingnut party devils. I wish good fruit trees grew as quickly and matured as fast as mulberrys and I don’t even like to eat the berries. They stain cement and vehicles and house paint, etc.

    • slipstream says:

And that is a story that no one can beat
And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street.

      • mike from iowa says:

Good to know one Mudpup is still alive. Beginning to think wingnuts killed all of you.

        • Alaska Pi says:

          Dang wingnuts can’t kill Pi!!!
          Never ever!
How-some-ever, life has kicked Pi right square in the teeth and I am hanging low on the horizon ’til some of the worstest of it all is fixed up.
Don’t want to be showing up to the soiree without my choppers…

            🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 ad infinitum redux,on and on,again and again,too still yet,etc,etc.
