New York’s St. Patrick’s Day Photos

For the first time in my photo career I was assigned to cover the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade – it was one of my bucket list assignments. The specific focus of my assignment was the first ever LGBT group allowed to march in the parade. You can see my photos from that part of the parade over at the Village Voice.

While I was there on assignment, I also photographed the rest of the parade – below are a few of my favorite shots – many more can be seen at my photo website.

Zach, I visited your photos at the Village Voice, and on your website. Glad you got the assignment, and that you got to cross one off your photo-assignment bucket list.

I rarely leave my home on St. Patrick’s Day, and did my shopping on the 16th, so I wouldn’t have to venture out. The East Village doesn’t have a large Irish presence, but it abounds in rowdy bars and the frat-boy types who frequent them. I also stay home (unless there’s a really great party of the type I enjoy) on New Year’s Eve. They’re both, IMO, amateur night, when the people who don’t know how to drink responsibly get stinkin’ drunk and annoy those of us who live in the neighborhood. Happy for you, Zach. Health and peace.
