Anchorage Assembly Meeting – Non-Discrimination Ordinance Testimony

You can stream the Assembly meeting live HERE.

More public testimony will be taken on the non-discrimination ordinance.

Chair Debbie Ossiander has stated that there are 250 people left to testify who signed up last week.  88 people were heard then.  Each person has approximately 3 minutes to speak, but people were reminded that all must be heard before discussion among Assembly members can begin.

My understanding is that testimony on the non-discrimination ordinance will begin at 7pm Alaska time (8pm Pacific/11pm Eastern)

Feel free to live blog the event in the comments.  I know many who enjoyed rereading your fabulous live blogging last time.

I will be Tweeting from the event.

UPDATE:  Here is a letter that Pastor Jerry Prevo sent out to his followers.  It answers the question I’ve been hearing from opponents of the ordinance who bat their eyes and say, “Why do they keep using the word ‘hate’ when they talk about us?”  This is why.

**Please forward this to other righteous citizens of Anchorage.**

Dear ABT Email Family,

The liberals on the Anchorage Assembly are trying to pass an ordinance to give “special rights” to gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and of all things transgender perverts. Last week we surprised them with an overwhelming number of people there in opposition, but they do not believe we can sustain these numbers. They feel like we are a bunch of wimps when it comes to fighting for what is right. To make it even harder, they have scheduled, in addition to the Tuesday night meeting, as to make it even harder, they have scheduled, in addition to the Tuesday night meeting, a special Wednesday night meeting. I am calling off our regular church service Wednesday so we can overwhelm them again on Wednesday night. This is how important this issue is to defeat.
Below is some general information and BE SURE TO WEAR SOMETHING RED. (blue is their color) – Pastor Prevo

General Information: The public testimony concerning the proposed homosexual ordinance continues Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We need everyone to attend the Assembly meeting at the Lousacc Library. We need to fill up the Assembly Chambers with people wearing red shirts showing their opposition to the proposed ordinance. If you can arrive by 3 p.m., take a seat in the Assembly Chamber Hall. Bring something to eat or drink and a good book to read. Arriving early is important but coming when you can and being present, even outside, is just as important. We need to show the Assembly Members the voters of Anchorage will not tolerate this scourge.

    Inconvenient infant : <—– :))

It was my nephew I am standing up and walking out for. I went to the wall for him. He’ll never forget what is being done To him and For him. Hopefully, the bad memories will be replaced by the ones of me defending him and standing up to the “man” on his behalf. Hypocrisy and I do NOT get along. And I have just enough fire in me to make a stand and cause some damage, but stay clean myself. I am Ripley, hear me roar!

  3. womanwithsardinecan says:

Thanks to all of you. I go to bed early so I didn’t even try to stay up for this. Just spent my first two hours of the morning reading your blow by blow. As somebody mentioned very early in this thread, you can sure see now how Palin got elected. The hateful, ignorant morons in Alaska outnumber the people with brains and tolerance. I’m truly sorry for you.

  4. the problem child says:

Aw, (((((Ripley))))). That sucks, but good on you for standing up for (yourself? someone else?).

I had to hit the hay after only an hour, but loved waking up to the liveblogging. (Is it still liveblogging if you are reading it after the fact?) Anyway, it sounds like it was quite a stressful experience for some.

What we all need to remember is that by spewing their hatred, telling their transparent lies, and boasting about gay-bashing, they are making the case for the ordinance. Obviously, it is very much needed to protect people from the very real and blatant discrimination that it happening in Anchorage!

I missed it last night, due to some personal turmoil here, but I just wanted to relay my deepest gratitude for people like all of you who are so supportive of others who may not be the same as you.

Ripley – that’s just it, we are all the same – human. No two of us are exactly alike, not even twins, and that is why it is so important to support and accept each other. The way you are different is under attack now, but who is next?

  6. Ripley in CT says:

I missed it last night, due to some personal turmoil here, but I just wanted to relay my deepest gratitude for people like all of you who are so supportive of others who may not be the same as you. I’m still reading through the comments and it might take me all day….That’s ok, because I walked out of work yesterday in protest of hypocrisy and injustice. So I have alllllll summer to read.

Also, too, I’m thinking of changing my name to “Ripley, the scourge of CT”.

  7. EyeOnYou says:

AKM and all who showed up, ……..THANK YOU

All of you live bloggers…….Thank you and Excellent work! Well done indeed.

OMIGOD what is with these FANATICS?

THIS IS PALIN’S BASE!!! Her and Prevo should take their hate mongering on the road..LEAVE ALASKA.

You have GOT to see the video!!!

A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman’s studio.

But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.

    Hi all.

Again you amaze me! I was sitting listening to testimony, and tried to leave a comment from my Blackberry, but no luck. I did ready many of your comments as I sat there, though. You were all voices of sanity for the progressive corner of the room. I passed you around several times for comic relief, or verification of what we were thinking. I’m putting up some pictures shortly.

    Thanks for keeping me sane!

I watch KO and Rachel online as I don’t get MSNBC

  22. Canadian Neighbour says:

today they started at 5 AK time but dealt with other issues about land and stuff. Then they too about 30 min dinner break and started public speaking at 7 AK time. Agenda sort of looks the same but AKM will post later.

To bed Mudpups!! That means you justafarmer!!

  23. ok…8pm est. I’ll miss Keith, Rachel. But that’s ok…will catch them on repeat.

  24. justafarmer says:

    LOL CN! NIters!

  25. Canadian Neighbour says:

I think tomorrow they go through a bundle of other things like they did today and then they had that dinner break and came back to public speaking. AKM will post tomorrow. I mean today!!!

Crap, I’m gonna be busy in the morning…off to bed for me…

  28. Canadian Neighbour says:

  30. Nan says:

G’night you all. You guys rock.

I am off to bed. Seriously, thank you all! When I read these post I don’t feel so discouraged with the world.

  33. Nan says:

    2:30 here (Missouri)

I’ll try to make it. Let’s hope my hand recover by then lol

  34. seattlefan says:

    Canadian Neighbour

    Thanks and LMAO!

On a more serious note….I can’t believe there are people out there that are so full of hate and ignorance. If religion brings that on I’m glad I have no part of it.

Did the Governor of AK have a stance on this issue or make a statement? Now that she is the new speaker of women’s issues, did she actually address this on behalf of gay women or men? I checked her Tweeter thingy and didn’t see anything.

I’m finally out for the night. Work is looming tomorrow.

  35. I should be free around 4 tomorrow. will try to be here

  36. justafarmer says:

is a four hour difference in eastern time zone land.
At least I think it is…..3:35 am here now

  37. Canadian Neighbour says:

    It’s 4 hours for EST
Justafarmer should be putting coffee on shortly!!!

  38. Nan says:

    lol lexky
At the moment, I don’t know if I’ll be there tomorrow or not. Depends partly on how much nap I can sneak in before then (besides the “night’s sleep” – hahahahaaaa)

and on what time spouse goes to bed lol

  39. Kath the Scrappy from Seattle says:

Opps, guess I’m not the one but very close hehehe.

Still, I am SO GRATEFUL for all you Mudpups that ‘took one for the team’! Thank you! I’ve been reading EVERY post, like it was some soap opera of ignorance. Don’t think I could have managed to watch so many red shirted buffoons in one sitting (w/o losing my cookies). What a labor of love!

  40. mhrt says:

    congratulations justafarmer..

  41. califpat says:

4pm tomorrow huh? This has been so interesting that I think I will participate. Does anyone know how long it will last?

  42. Canadian Neighbour says:

The quote of the day I liked was a twitter post by AKM about Ed Schultz:

MudflatsQuote of the day from Ed Schultz: “If Sarah Palin is ever President of the United States… Winnipeg, here I come.”

  43. justafarmer says:

AKM will have a cow when she sees this thread!

  44. Nan says:

I think it’s a 3 hr difference for Central time vs Alaska time (what is that, anyway? CA is Pacific time…)

  45. bucfan says:

I couldn’t watch the meeting tonight. I could have but then I would have to wake up tomorrow and realize how many morons are out on the road with me. I have read a lot of your posts. And it would be one thing if these people were giving well thought out views but most of what I see are fear, hate, fear, hate. And as for the guy who kept getting hit on by gay men, all you have to do is say no. It happened to me once years ago. At first the young lady I was with and I thought he was hitting on her. When we realized the truth, she burst out laughing and I told him I wasn;t interested. He apologized and LEFT. End of story. Nobody got beat up. And the worse part of this whole things are those kids in red being taught that great Christian virtue of hate.

  46. CrazyInAlaska says:

You are right about my name. It came about when Palin was picked for VP. I was going nuts, and I work with hard core republicans, so I was really having issues!

  47. lexky says:

    it will be rough

  48. Nan says:

Canadian Neighbour – you’re absolutely right! I didn’t realize it, but that was irresistable lol

  49. justafarmer says:

yeppers, lexky. we’re back tomorrow! By my reckoning, the fun will start at 8 pm our time

  50. Nan says:

lexky, I don’t know if I’ll survive another night of it.

  51. Canadian Neighbour says:

The fun part was you have to interject your own thoughts as there is no way you can only just type their drivel and hate

  52. Nan says:

CrazyInAlaska, I think that after tonight, I can see where that screen name might have come from. “Interesting” residents you have up there!

    hang in there, ok? lol

  53. justafarmer says:

this has been way too much fun, it should be illegal!

  54. lexky says:

are we doing this again tomorrow?

  55. Canadian Neighbour says:

And somehow AKM managed to escape!!! and didn’t even tell us.

  56. CrazyInAlaska says:

You guys are great! My support team! Thank you! You all keep me from pulling my hair out!!!

  57. lexky says:

    congrats justafarmer

  58. yaaaay justafarmer 🙂

  59. justafarmer says:

sorry Lexky, but at least a Kentuckian got to be 1,000!

  60. Canadian Neighbour says:

trish – I TOTALLY agree with you. I was given tickets to go see her. Gave them away. No thanks.

  61. Kath the Scrappy from Seattle says:

    Hmm, am I 1000?

  62. justafarmer says:

    I’m 1,000 and didn’t even try!!!!!!

  63. Nan says:

    lol at justafarmer
crazy – I don’t think Letterman has seen the latest video

the worst one? Oy. The one that made me the most irritated was probably the soccer mom type – so very busy, thought it was silly this was even coming up. She got a little OT (sorta). but she really wasn’t the “worst” (I have a “thing” against the self-proclaimed “entitled” – my bad)

I think one of the saddest was the woman early on, so very sweet, so much against it, and so hurt that there was so much fractiousness abounding. She could have been Aunt Bea’s cousing or someting

  64. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Kathy: Palin is a “moron”

    I agree!

  66. justafarmer says:

I don’t get network TV, so I don’t get to see Letterman except on the intertubes.

@CN, yes, I think it starts up again tomorrow, but earlier. 4 pm Anchorage time?

  67. lexky says:

    i want to be 1000

  68. CrazyInAlaska says:

You are right, he was a good one! How quickly I forget!

  69. califpat says:

@CrazyinAlaska: You thought the last guy was nuts, there were nuts in that audience of every breed.

  70. Canadian Neighbour says:

The red had punker — that was excellent!!
    He punked them and us

  71. last guy…the one speaking for god

  72. Canadian Neighbour says:

I think I agree in that she didn’t go in and just the whole issue. Too much of what she said didn’t fly. Security wouldn’t do anything. Realllly

  73. califpat says:

Actually, this has really been a learning experience for me because I was not aware of the extent that people were more willing to spew hate and intolerance. I knew that they existed but not at the level that were displayed last week and tonight. Actually, it’s kind of frightening.

  74. lexky says:

the guy who talked about getting hit on by men in random states

  75. CrazyInAlaska says:

I think it was the last guy, he was a nut.

  76. Nan says:

from what little I know, Levi has the best reaction to the Letterman thing of all of them.

There’s a new video of the idiot protesters (15 protesters, 35 media ROFL)

  77. lexky says:

    thanks for the sympathy
    letterman was good tonight

  78. Canadian Neighbour says:

They have a meeting tomorrow night too?

  79. justafarmer says:

Nan, it’s already way too late for me, so I’ll stick around for 1,000!
    We’re getinig pretty close.
OK, who was the worse person testifying tonight?
My vote goes to the first redshirt woman who brought up her two daughters in the public bathroom (and I noted that she looked like the TG master sergeant)

  80. CrazyInAlaska says:

Letterman just made a joke about his band preforming at the “rally” (fire David Letterman)

  81. Nan says:

    poor lexky!

I only had some “virtual” hooch – thanks to justafarmer

  82. Canadian Neighbour says:

Gotta love CNN – Larry King on here at 9. I left station on while listening and typing so it replayed at midnight and geewhiz, it’s on again. Have seen Levi 3 times tonight. So much for being a News station. Repeat King and Cooper basically all night.

  83. lexky says:

where will your pics end up?

  84. lexky says:

cant have wine. at work 🙁

  85. Nan says:

justafarmer, be careful taking those pictures. And I hope you don’t fall asleep in the middle of one of ’em lol

  86. califpat says:

    @Canadian: I sincerely concur.

  87. lexky says:

    its been interesting

  88. justafarmer says:

lol seattle, is ALWAYS best to blame it on the wine!

  89. Nan says:

Okay, I’m going to stick around until we hit 1000, Why, I don’t know, but then again, why not?

  90. justafarmer says:

to all mudpups, thanks for a wonderful night!
Even a tornado or two or more couldn’t stop me!

  91. Canadian Neighbour says:

I typed the word speech a short time ago with 4 eeee’s — speeeech. Saw it and said screw it. Just hit it to post!!!

  92. justafarmer says:

haaa! I’m wide awake right now, but I hvae dogs saying let’s go to bed…
whops! Prevo’s people might have something dastaredly to connotate about that!

  93. Canadian Neighbour says:

You know, the thing I don’t get out of all this is if they have the sexual orientation rule or law in the schools, what’s the big frickin deal.

  94. seattlefan says:

Canadian Neighbour……ooops, I left out the “u”. Sorry. It is late and I’m blaming it on the wine. 🙂

  95. sleep well, just a farmer 🙂

  96. Nan says:

    thank you!

  97. justafarmer says:

LOL CN!!! My thought as well… those poor two kids….
    They need two chicken moms!

  98. Canadian Neighbour says:

Get your butt to bed!! Rather know you’re awake for taking pics as that is important.

  99. Canadian Neighbour says:

  100. justafarmer says:

  101. mhrt says:

Thanks to all of you doing the typing.

  102. Canadian Neighbour says:

WOW. I didn’t know about the live streaming so totally missed last week. What an education. Was it needed — not really but it sure opens the eyes!!!

  103. seattlefan says:

Same to you Canadian Neighbor! LOL…I’m sure we’ll never know, but I’m pretty sure it was Ziegler. You really should go read those comments. HILARIOUS!

  104. Kat says:

I was finally able to connect to the hearings tonight. Wish I hadn’t, I’m sick to my stomach, bad taste in mouth & head whirling from all the ignorance out there. I’ll continue to watch though – gotta keep the positive energy sending out through the slime.

  105. Doggonit says:

Couldn’t they save a lot of time drafting two or three letters and have the congregation sign them?

If we talley up the children in the ladies room with two men, there had to be about 40 children in the ladies room at the same time.

  106. Nan says:

Omigawd, go to Huff Post and read about the “protest” by 15 (FIFTEEN!) protesters – and what they had to say.

Holy crap, this guy is speaking for god. Wonder if god knows he has a new spokesman.

  132. Canadian Neighbour says:

His opinion is of very little value. I switched screeens, saw red — Yup, he’s right.

  133. Nan says:

I’m actually a little tired of seeing the dang flag. “turned life over to Christ”

is now going to give us His opinion (Christ)

  134. seattlefan says:

Thanks to all you live bloggers! I can’t keep my head up any longer and need to get to sleep. I was back and forth between here and Huffpo about the NY Protest thingy. Hilarious over there! Turns out only 15 showed up and the organizer reportedly saw how lame it was and jumped in a cab a left.

I hope this Assembly will wrap things up soon and do the right thing. Great reporting to all of you. I had the link in the beginning, but lost it. Not sure why.

  135. CrazyInAlaska says:

oh here we go with the God stuff

  151. GreatGrey says:

  152. CrazyInAlaska says:

Yes, please make Anchorage a place we can be proud of! A place that discriminates!

  153. Nan says:

sez protections in place are adequate.

or replace sexual orientation with “fat challenged” (or similar)

  154. Nan says:

chopping off body parts will not change XX or XY.

  155. Mirage 18 says:

I don’t get these people. Just because you never have seen this type of discrimination doesn’t mean it does not exist.

Some of them seem to live their lives in a fairly closed circle of people. But, I doubt they are even aware of this.

Maybe it is easier to associate only with like minds that way you don’t have to expand your horizons?

  156. lexky says:

  164. Nan says:

  165. justafarmer says:

    oooh…she’s good!

  166. Nan says:

this gal was appalled at the tenor of the whole thing, and felt compelled to testify so “you” would get a balanced perspective

  167. Nan says:

Y’know, if there was no discrimination, they wouldn’t NEED the law!

  168. califpat says:

Reddie, your ignorance is horrid! Please never come to the lower 48 because your type of ignorance seems to be contagious.

  169. Canadian Neighbour says:

DUCK!!!! as you slap the sticker on them!!

  170. justafarmer says:

    “grandchildren we have coming up”
I think we saw the pictures of the kids in red shorts outside last week…

  171. CrazyInAlaska says:

And what about all those grandchildren coming up? How dare we teach them to respect one another?

  172. Nan says:

this guy in military, never seen discrimination in military or in anch.

think about your own fam, how do you want your fam raised here?

  175. GreatGrey says:

That guy who kept getting propositioned must have been a lot cuter with hair.

I’ll bet he has it in a box on the closet shelf.

  176. Nan says:

“by taking ‘choice’ out of the picture (born that way) then immoral behavior is no longer icky” (he’s talking FAST)

  185. justafarmer says:

    I’m speechless now…
    definitely another Scotch moment…

  186. Mr “Not Available”…have to wonder if he’s just inthe closet?
Funny thing, he’s been hit on by all those ‘bad gay men’.

  187. Nan says:

this guy is saying sheppard murder was “labelled” hate crime even before his sexuality was known

  188. Doggonit says:

Conservative don’t believe the media but believe some old biblical text.

  189. justafarmer says:

oh my! this guy is bringing up Matt Shepherd!!!!

  190. Nan says:

  197. ajpinak says:

What’s wrong with just saying NO Bruce?

  199. justafarmer says:

oh, now the hetreo man got hit on by a homo in NYC and in Illinois…
here’s a hint: JUST SAY NO!!!!

  200. CrazyInAlaska says:

  201. Nan says:

  206. Nan says:

he was picked on as a kid, too. he was small, slow they were bigger and he was “there”

the solution is not a “rule” cuz there are too many. this law if enacted will not get rid of mean people. for every law, new set of lawbreakers

  207. austintx says:

Oh boy……we are scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

  208. justafarmer says:

  217. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

    # 815

Who has EVER heard of a GAY man, dressed as a woman (which truly makes him transvestite, not necessarily gay), hitting on a young girl in a bathroom? IDIOTS – he wouldn’t be GAY then would he?!! Could we start an open season on stupidity? Stamp it out, send ’em to school, send ’em to travel the world, make them live with gays – whatever works. ARRRRGGGGHHHHH! Maybe just send ’em all to the moon – we’ll deal with them later!

I love my parents, I love my parents, I love my parents… they always told me two things: be tolerant, and don’t succumb to peer pressure. They didn’t tell us WHAT to think, but showed us HOW to think.

  218. GreatGrey says:

They all have notes now, someone outside is prepping the reddies.

  219. Doggonit says:

These people are retarded. I’ve never seen anything so sad.

  220. Nan says:

Oh, now we’re getting the story of Lot’s wife and pillar of salt etc. (WHAT does this have to do with ANYTHING here?)

  221. austintx says:

The endtimes ??……….aw f^*k…….sodom and gomorrah…….is there one place these people can go

  222. InJuneau says:

DUDE, read your own notes, not the ones you’re handed at the last minute and can’t decifer!

  223. Doggonit says:

Guy reading cleft notes on Genius.

  224. justafarmer says:

good lord, is this the best Prevo can bring to the micropone?

  225. CrazyInAlaska says:

Someone should tell this guy that Cain killed Able and then had sex with his mother, according to the bible!

  226. justafarmer says:

and he can sorta quote OT when it’s written on a paper in his he CAN’T!!!

  227. Mirage 18 says:

Is this guy talking about the rapture? (the end times)

  228. InJuneau says:

OK, before I go, as a resident of th CAPITAL CITY, WTF does the fact that it’s still here have to do with any of this cr**?

  229. GreatGrey says:

Viking dude can’t read what Dr Prevo wrote for him.

  230. Nan says:

    sigh. end times.

  231. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    oh, great.
    end times.

  232. CrazyInAlaska says:

Did he just say, “bible thumper?” I think he might be discriminating!!

  233. justafarmer says:

    oh “I raised seven kids”…that’s a bonefide…

  234. Canadian Neighbour says:

A people issue — put it on the ballot. What – for Prevo’s benefit??

  235. Nan says:

is he asking for referendum? (snarky cuz he didn’t think someone was listening well enough)

  236. austintx says:

    No , you don’t count.

  237. InJuneau says:

OK, the spouse just got home and said listening to this is obviously making me aggrevated (ya think?). SO, I’m getting dragged off to the hot tub… I’ll catch up with everyone’s fabulous liveblogging later. ‘Nite, ‘pups.

  238. Nan says:

you stuck in a ditch, I’ll jump out and help you. as a fellow human being.

pause to gripe about a redneck sign from last week (redneck uniform or something).

ord will conflict with state law

  239. justafarmer says:

this guy is good! He’s sneaking around the stuff.

  240. GreatGrey says:

Oh god, this guy is so narcissistic, “I was the guy with the sign.”

  241. Nan says:

oboy. every gay person in his company has been promoted. digressing.

parent company has donated to PFLAG org (?)

(how nice, he works for a spiffy company)

I don’t hate anyone, just disagree

  242. austintx says:

He went to the same school of hand gestures that sarah went to.

  243. Canadian Neighbour says:

Will have to build transgender bathrooms – WTF.

She hasn’t looked outside her braincell. The state is attached to a country that allows gay marriage since 2005. Sexual orientation laws first appeared on our books in 1996. She might want to read a book, seach the internet.

  244. CrazyInAlaska says:

I love the restroom thing! The men coming into the women’s. Hello?!! Nothing will happen, THEY ARE GAY!!!!

  245. califpat says:

Reddie says that the Constitution guaranteed that government would not interfere with religion. Hey, Numbskull, all human beings having civil and human rights is in no way having government interfere in religion. Gosh you’re imbecilic.

  246. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

ok. they’re passing notes to one another right before they get up there.

  247. Doggonit says:

How is it possible everyone’s children was in the lady’s room with two men last week?

  248. justafarmer says:

dang…almost wish the tornado would have hit me tonight…

  249. Nan says:

    Canadian Neighbour etc
I think each one of ’em has brought up religion (maybe not this one, but… she’s still talking)

oh geez… here’s the restroom story again. Is she claiming to be the one that had the situation??

  250. justafarmer says:

a man dressed as woman in the bathroom will HIT on the little girls???WTF???

  251. austintx says:

was that a church song ringtone ??

  252. InJuneau says:

OMG, the “sexual” ordinance? Really? And how idiotic to not turn off your cell phone before you testify. It’s NOT a choice, lady, really it’s not.

  253. Doggonit says:

God is calling on this lady’s cell phone.

  254. CrazyInAlaska says:

I hate that they keep saying “it is a choice!” They must not know ANYONE who is gay! And where is their proof! I have yet to see anything that show their proof.

  255. justafarmer says:

what on earth is this woman trying to say???

  256. Doggonit says:

Does it say some where in the Bible that these people need to wear red and repeat the same nonsense?

  257. Nan says:

again, murder is illegal, but anti-lynch laws had to be passed before “some” realized they meant it (in the 30s I think)

  258. InJuneau says:

How red on red on red can we get here?

  259. austintx says:

    Got those bumper bangs workin’

  260. justafarmer says:

what us it with this redshirts having heavily wrinkling upper arm sleeves????

  261. Canadian Neighbour says:

“Has anyone in red got up and talked and NOT referred to the Bible, or Christ, or church? I am asking this as a serious question!”

Thank you for saying that. Canada isn’t Bible rabid as many have displayed tonight so it’s something I notice.

  262. GreatGrey says:

Is shaved head dude sewing his finger up?

  263. Nan says:

state & nat’l constitutions guarantee “not interfere with religion”

is proposing changed wording to ‘allow” for constitution. (idjit doesn’t know the constitution is inviolable already? And supercedes anything else? good grief.)

  264. justafarmer says:

wow, I missed a lot when the computer locked up (guess it couldn’t handle all the crap)…

  265. InJuneau says:

BTW, I’m a Christian, and MY God doesn’t give a rat’s a** about who my neighbor loves. She loves us all and accepts us all as we are and is gonna let all the good people into heaven/the afterlife. (yes, I attend an “accepting” church)

  266. Nan says:

this ord does not protect those who are “of the faith”

(christians aren’t perfect… just forgiven – sorry, tis my least fave bumper sticker and sticking in my craw badly right now)

  267. Mirage 18 says:

I don’t think I have ever heard so many folks mentioning their religion during public testimony before in my life.

I used to attend city council meetings fairly regularly, too.

Maybe it is just the nature of the topic? Or, is this norm in Anchorage? Just wondering…

  268. BigSlick says:

The fundies just wanna delay until “their” Mayor gets into office

  269. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Anybody Sin today??

This turd is blaming being gay because you sinned.

  270. Nan says:

heard lot of accusation that thsoe opposed are motivated by hate/fear. most are not (sez he). those who are christians… (huh?) oh – love one another as ourselves (waiting for the “but”)…

last week someone said, “WHY would I choose *this* lifestyle” he knows. Ohh.. shes a sinner and so is he.

  271. InJuneau says:

Really? ‘Cause in my book if you love everyone as yourself, you wouldn’t discriminate or hate.

  272. CrazyInAlaska says:

Has anyone in red got up and talked and NOT referred to the Bible, or Christ, or church? I am asking this as a serious question!

  273. califpat says:

The reddie with the hoodie: Hey family lady, you lie, you know very well that your daughter does not have 3 gay friends who are struggling with it. You know you would never allow her to have gay friends and would die the death of a rabid dog if you even thought she did. Stop the BS and admit you are homphobic and that’s who you are.

  274. strangelet says:

@Lori: actually, you still pretty funny (viz. 785). Sent me off with a laugh.

  275. Lori in Los Angeles says:

I am going to sleep now, and bid adieu to all mudpuppies.

  276. Nan says:

    it’s been ‘real’ strangelet

think of us here, ok? (just kidding)

  277. InJuneau says:

Oh, so it’s okay to discriminate against gays because we do it to each (straight) other? WTF?

  278. CrazyInAlaska says:

Doesn’t this guy know that women, and African Americans didn’t have an easy life, and that is why we have equal rights?!

  279. Lori in Los Angeles says:

good night strangelet – me sooooo tired too. we just not funny anymore.

  280. Lori in Los Angeles says:

yes, now it is “no sitting mayor” but do not fret, the bathrooms will re-appear and then it will be “no s h i t t i n g mayor.”

  281. strangelet says:

@771 fawnskin: I must say that the comments are getting less peppy. Perhaps you all are getting tired, or perhaps the speakers are, or perhaps Pervo had them line up by declining IQ. I think I need to retire — more yardwork tomorrow.

Night all. Thanks for the blogging.

  282. InJuneau says:

That shooting has NOTHING to do with this, and does she really think that the Assembly would be out there dealing with drug deals gone bad if they weren’t sitting around listening to all their hate?

  283. Nan says:

shooting at sports authority – wtf?

we’re not doing anything to stop it. we are blind to “other world” oiut there.

what does this have to do with ANYTHING?!

  284. ajpinak says:

Gays caused the shooting at Sports Authority? wtf?

  285. Lori in Los Angeles says:

yes, just ignore it like bengich did and it will go away. yes, other issues are important – so therefore, ignore this one?

  286. InJuneau says:

Oh for crying out loud you idiots. He waas elected as an Assembly member and everyone knows what happens when the mayor steps down; you get the Assembly Chair as mayor until the next election. SUCK IT UP!

  287. ajpinak says:

Man in front row picking something out of his fingernails- distracting.

  288. Nan says:

    The hell I won’t!

“no respect for govt process – no elected mayor in here, other assembly seat filled”

unbelievable this is even happening. brownnoses “respect” at council. “if it passes, I dunno what’ll happen”

mayor begitch was smart – neer brought it up in 2 terms

  289. GreatGrey says:

Jeebuz I wish Mayor Clayman would unload on one of these “unelected mayor” people.

It’s called rule of law, succession to vacant office, do ya have a problem with that fundy?

  290. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

any one notice that groups of them come in with the same talking point.
right now its “no sitting mayor”

  291. austintx says:

What is the logo on her shirt ??

  292. Nan says:

another one that “sorry we gotta take the time to deal with it” (has a “busy day, not prepared” )

muttering here: I will not snark, I will not snark, I will not snark, I will not snark,

  293. CrazyInAlaska says:

Caused a lot of division? The division was already there, it is just visible now!

  294. InJuneau says:

strangelet–true, but with this bunch, you never know what they’d do. I can see them trying to take it to the court.

Oh sob story. Maybe you should take care of your family and not come here to preach hate.

  295. Nan says:

    omiGAWD that one was PAINFUL!

  296. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

may i point out that they’re getting worse…and less smart.

  297. InJuneau says:

  298. austintx says:

  299. Nan says:

“claiming to be one of “us”” and claiming to be against, but pulling woll over eyes. what are we, fools? (WHO is he talking about?)!

  300. Mirage 18 says:

Methinks he will be appointed to some vacant political position soon.

  301. Lori in Los Angeles says:

yes, how dare someone wear a red hat! that is THEIR COLOR. nobody allowed to wear a red hat. what idiots they are – again, they are helping to get this ordinance PASSED!!!

  302. Canadian Neighbour says:

Why do I feel this one’s gonna bring up Obama.

It’s like a watergate here. Mayor that’s not even elected. Christian morals. We;ve been let down. Fight it to the max.

Red hat fools everyone here — YUPPER!! Pulling wool over everyone eyes.

  303. lexky says:

  304. InJuneau says:

    HA, what a dupe!

  305. GreatGrey says:

He has a sad, blames Ted Stevens, and admits he got fooled, then asked if he’s a fool.

  306. InJuneau says:

What in the HE77 does Ted Stevens have to do with this?

  310. Nan says:

new guy – in sorrow that he’s even here today. against ordinance

dunno about the council, he’s appalled. and could be doing his own life. shoulda never came to this – govt letting us down.

watergate type – stevens getting kicked out for false accusations – mayor not elected, trying to pass this bill before us.

  311. CrazyInAlaska says:

    This man is an idiot!

  312. strangelet says:

@741 InJuneau: The 9th Circuit is the most liberal, but they still wouldn’t give much of a rip about a city ordinance, except to consider its constitutionality.

  313. Canadian Neighbour says:

If you aren’t gay, you don’t hear the discrimination as it’s not directed at you. He says I’ve never heard it. Lived since 1951.

  314. InJuneau says:

DUH, time your speach before you try to give it in front of the Assembly!

  315. Nan says:

strangelet – heck if I know. Was typing as fast as I could. She said they put him in a “private” preschool, but I have a feeling it was a “christian” preschool or something

  316. Doggonit says:

Testimony is proving you need an IQ below 80 to join Prevo’s church.

  317. lexky says:

im sorry but the guy with the sleeves cut off of his shirt, i might have seen him on to catch a predator.

  318. InJuneau says:

That guy in the front row is really annoying, hence my keeping that tab in the background and not watching it, just listening!

  319. GreatGrey says:

The chair screwed up calling numbers/names thru the 140s. One of my friends was in that group, I’ll bet he just got pissed at being passed and went home.

Too bad, he woulda been good.

  320. Nan says:

evidence has been anecdotal and hearsay

haven’t met the lawyer yet that wouldn’t take the dollar (I have, but that’s another story – nan)

  321. justafarmer says:

hey, I saw/heard this guy a little while ago!

  322. strangelet says:

@738 Nan: They have PUBLIC pre-schools in Alaska?

  323. Canadian Neighbour says:

Is Carol Prevo trying to save herself for the last one. As she should have already spoken. Or did she leave!! That would be kewl

  324. Nan says:

    *HE* has not seen discrimination…

early in 50s, 60s, some ‘melding (?) that took place.

don’t need extra layer of buracracy

  325. InJuneau says:

Canadian Neighbour–actually, the 9th Circuit is the most liberal Circuit Court in the US and often gets overturned at the SCOTUS.

  326. justafarmer says:

2:13 am here in Kentucky, DH just woke up and said I know what you’re up to, where are those good cookies….LOL!

  327. Lori in Los Angeles says:

I think the last “lady” was Prevo – not the wife, maybe a relative.

  328. Nan says:

4 yr old kid came home from preschool “Mommy, boys can marry boys” – kid yanked, then put in private preschool

    not for, fer shure

  329. strangelet says:

@717 CN: This is almost trivial in context, but the 9th Circuit of the US Federal Appeals Court would have zero interest in the content of an Anchorage ordinance, unless they were to rule it unconstitutional.

  330. Canadian Neighbour says:

At 4 years, he’s now 17. At 4 he came home from school and said boys can marry boys. == She screwed up. Bye Bye — No credibility

  331. Lori in Los Angeles says:

here is “I have Gay friends!” “see, it is ME who is being discriminated against!’
she got him out of a pre-school because her kid as told men can marry men.
    oh, the horror.

  332. InJuneau says:

The red shirts just don’t want it to pass while the “liberal” acting mayor is still in place, because he won’t veto it and then it would be in place. If they can delay long enough, it won’t get voted on until the elected mayor (Dan Sullivan) is in place and can veto is.

She doesn’t discriminate? Who is she kidding? Just listen to her…

  333. Nan says:

doesn’t matter what color, what orientation… but now *she* is feeling discriminated against – signs at work (loads of gay at work)

  334. justafarmer says:

    passing a glass to InJuneau…

  335. Nan says:

InJuneau – I’d like to be next for said jug

  336. justafarmer says:

Karen Prevo is coming up soon????

  337. Doggonit says:

Another Christian women saying gays are deviants.

Once again proving that they are being discriminated against.

  338. Lori in Los Angeles says:

that IS their agenda, they are awaiting mayor sullivan to veto. that is it in nutshell.

  339. Nan says:

“timing of the attempt to pass the amendment ” and something about the “EEELECTED Mayor”

  340. InJuneau says:

Seriously, justafarmer, pass that Scotch on up here. I need a big shot after that one.

  341. justafarmer says:

I’m feeling sorry for these sorry pieces of Christian wannabes.
And this woman just used the dyke word as an apology.

  342. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

i am getting really really annoyed with that idiot redshirt sitting behind the podium with that stupid grin on his face

  343. strangelet says:

@716 Nan: Too bad there isn’t a law that allows jailing people for spouting egregious BS.

  344. Canadian Neighbour says:

Tell her to come see me!!!!! Please, Please, pretty please!!!!!

  345. austintx says:

Where is the jailed pastor ?? Psycho-billy hater.

  346. califpat says:

Since when have human rights for all been considered special rights? And I do not believe for a minute that you have two lesbian friends that told you they have never been discriminated against! And what if one of your precious little children who you are trying to protect from gays confide in you that he/she is gay? Would you stop loving him/her?

  347. Mirage 18 says:

I love the generalities… the last gal said that religion can’t be taught in classrooms. Yet, religion is taught in classrooms throughout the U.S. – religion as history is taught in classrooms daily.

  348. Lori in Los Angeles says:

this one needs to move to wasilly. pastors will be jailed. prevo will look good in orange jumpsuit methinks,

  349. Canadian Neighbour says:

9th circuit court of appeals is most liberal and they will interpret it like that. Oh man — when does this crap come from.

My fingers and my brain aren’t connecting for spelling!!!!

  350. Nan says:

“christians have been JAILED (in canada or sweden or something) for stating homosexuality is a sin”

  351. CrazyInAlaska says:

Brainwashing students?! You’re right! Brainwashing them to respect EVERYONE!!

  352. justafarmer says:

oh this newest redshirt is a piece of work. Canada Scandinavia…

  353. Nan says:

yes, she *does* have an angry voice.

doesn’t want gays to be homeless, jobless, or without health care…

but relig exemptions are inadequate, and judges can have diff interpretations (claims the judgs there are THE most lib)

  354. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    hahaha, lori…”guarding the bathrooms…”

  355. GreatGrey says:

    9th circuit argument…. gagh!

Canada, Scandanavia, and Philly? There’s a combination for ya.

  356. austintx says:

    justafarmer Says:
off for another Scotch…coffee shop homos….
friends of Bristols , you betcha

  357. justafarmer says:

hahahaaa! this last one said “asexual…I meant unacceptional,,,”

  358. Nan says:

Oh heavens (is our children being edumacated – my goof)

  359. Canadian Neighbour says:

Can’t speak about religion in church but this ord will allow it to be spoken about in school.

  360. GreatGrey says:

??? iPhone lady confuses equates homosexuality as a religion?

  361. Nan says:

*Are* every one testifying Anchorage residents?

  362. Lori in Los Angeles says:

prevo never spoke, I swear I heard her name called. maybe she is out in the hallway, gurading the bathrooms from the Gays.

  363. InJuneau says:

Julia O’Malley is a reporter for the ADN and grew up in Anchorage I think. I can’t believe that even if she’s never experienced discrimination in Anch. that she truly believes that no other gays/lesbians in Anch. have.

And do we really think that any who have would be telling all their red-shirt “friends” about it? PULEEZE!

  364. justafarmer says:

ok, men dressing as women…I haven’t worn a dress since 1970.
    I must be a prevert…

  365. Nan says:

if someone can “dress in drag” after the ordinance, well shoot – they already CAN – that story again

  366. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    oh, to be s&^(faced

  367. Doggonit says:

Bunch of red shirts saying there isn’t any discrimination but say they hate the gays and transvestites. LOL She thinks they are deviants and don’t deserve specials rights.

She gets a standing ovation from the haters.

  368. ajpinak says:

“If I asked my lesbian co-workers if they were discriminated against I’m sure they would say no” wtf, is she a mind reader?

  369. CrazyInAlaska says:

    Very, very funny!! Thank you!

  370. Closet Mudpup says:

It’s hilarious that a redshirt can get up and argue that the ordinance is unnecessary because discrimination against gays doesn’t really exist. Hey, lady — look at your shirt — why are you wearing red??

  371. Canadian Neighbour says:

Ord quicly pushed through. Don’t remember hearing about discrimination. Work with several at coffee shop & they say they haven’t. Do you think they would tell this beaatch the truth. I don’t.

Ord being pushed down our throats.

Back to the bathroom issue. Man Church last week didn’t provide enough alternate stories to use.

  372. Sourdough Mullet says:

Yes, let’s put it to a vote.
Government by “Tyranny of the Majority”. To HELL with the Bill of Rights!
    Now, THAT”S the American Way!!

  373. Lori in Los Angeles says:

aha, I knew she would be on the bathroom thing LOL – ho long b4 men dress like women and find their ay in there? (bathroom)

  374. strangelet says:

GreatGrey: Thank you. Sounds like she’s lucky, too.

  375. Mirage 18 says:

According to the website, there was a John Doe 1978 graduating class of South Anchorage High School.

I didn’t see him, so, don’t know if this fits his age. But, can you imagine having the name “John Doe”?

  376. GreatGrey says:

This woman leaked new Prevo tactic, to put this up for a public vote.

  377. Nan says:

Oh, news media would have a field day with.

work w/several lesbians… supervisor – ‘if asked, they’d probably say no discrimination” (but HAS she asked?)

    “rammed down their throats”

  378. austintx says:

If we were playing a drinking game where you had to take a shot everytime the word bible or bathroom was used tonite….we would be s^*tfaced………

  379. justafarmer says:

off for another Scotch…coffee shop homos….

  380. GreatGrey says:

Who the heck is Julia O’Malley?

Reporter for the Anchorage Daily News, recently promoted to feature writer. Very nice woman, gay too.

  381. Nan says:

Her own opinion… special not equal rights.

  382. Sourdough Mullet says:

“Do I want fairness for everyone? Yes” ????????!

OK,,,,,,,,,,, sure didn’t sound like it.

  383. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    which one is prevo’s wife?

  384. GreatGrey says:

OMG, the reds are running, not in Copper River, but at the assembly, a whole slew of em coming up.

  385. califpat says:

@Strangelet: It might as well be. You betcha!!

  386. justafarmer says:

    she said ASSASINATION?????

  387. Canadian Neighbour says:

Well when the ordinence passes, they deserve to be nailed for not following rules.

  388. strangelet says:

Who the heck is Julia O’Malley?

  389. Nan says:

therefore, can we not assume that… others have been treated respecfully. most acts of unkindness … oh, “victims (of discrim) must then bring it on themselves

  390. GreatGrey says:

Oh crap, portraying Prevo as the victim.

    Paging Sarah Palin….

  391. mhrt says:

    treaty of Tripoli

  392. Lori in Los Angeles says:

so, miss o’malley as not discriminated agaisnt, so nobody is. this is her logic. she has no logic, it is all illoical.

  393. justafarmer says:

she said “jew-no” valley? I was trying for a phonetic thing)

  394. Nan says:

influenced by julia o’malley (gay?) In her 10 yrs of coming out, hadn’t rec’d discrim or harassment (o’malley)

  395. Canadian Neighbour says:

Doggonit — Note the name – John Doe.

Loranna Bobbitt would have made him a Jane Doe!!

  396. Lori in Los Angeles says:

nope, it is norma – just looks like prevo wife.

  397. GreatGrey says:

Just looked in my new copy of the Anchorage White Pages,… no listing for any John Doe.

  398. austintx says:

Wifey Prevo huh ?? Looks like a shot of Tequila is in order…..

  399. strangelet says:

@656 califpat: Tithing? Is that a polite word for vomiting?

  400. Nan says:

seems to be saying y ou can’t legislate acceptance

  401. Doggonit says:

John Doe wants to talk about contract law. Thinks lawyers will make lots of money off the ordinance because Christians will keep discriminating against others. Doesn’t think people will follow rules. He’s seeing a lot of piercings at shopping center.

  402. Lori in Los Angeles says:

they gays ill corrupt the young folk. “ya gotta treat us the same way” – oh no.

what a turd. here comes prevo.

  403. CrazyInAlaska says:

“what young people learn they learn from older people” Yes, like HATE!! What an idiot1

  404. Canadian Neighbour says:

This Dtard should climb back under his rock.

  405. Nan says:

It’s something that’s been going on thru history (that makes it ok? dammmmm)

“can’t take it away if it’s inalienable” (mispronounced, but idea was right)… seems to begrudge lawyers etc.

doesn’t like piercings or black lipstick or 2 girls holding hands lol

  406. justafarmer says:

ummm…he just pointed at his clunky pack thingie…

  407. Canadian Neighbour says:

Red Shirts — contractors won’t come in to build as they just won’t have anything to do with “them”. It’s a sin.

Those “thems” have names — Are men and women and boys and girls.

  408. Lori in Los Angeles says:

yeppers, looks like the little wifey of the rev. prevo up next!

  409. Nan says:

omigawd. two contractors, one discovers the owner of the house is “other” then one of the contractors won’t come back ??? huh?

Oh, lawyers are gonna make a lot of money. sheesh

  410. califpat says:

After his quoting of Biblical verses I almost feel like tithing.

  411. justafarmer says:

and what was the noticeably clunky pack he dropped on the table there?

  412. justafarmer says:

  413. Nan says:

    strangelet – I will! (634-ish)

  414. austintx says:

If we were playin………what ????…….did she just say Prevo ?!?!

  415. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

i would have a difficult time of it in anchorage if this fellow got his way and everyone had to be christian.

  416. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Sourdough Mullet Says: (of the old testament bible lady)
Woo Hoo! If this whack job Christian Wingnut with the Webster’s dictionary doesn’t convince the assembly to vote FOR the ordinance, nothing will!

EXACTLY! This is what I believe whole-heartedly. The red sh*ts are HELPING to get this passed, no doubt in my mind. Most are not clever, logical, or able to hide their bigotry, and they make the case to pass this ordinance BETTER than those who show up to support it. so funny, they do not know that they are helping to pass this! my eyes hurt from the stoooooopid.
    alert: Carol Prevo coming up!!

  417. Canadian Neighbour says:

159 – Did she say Carol Prevo — any relation????

  418. justafarmer says:

and why does his upper sleeves look all wrinklely?

  419. GreatGrey says:

John Doe? Give me a freaking break.

  420. InJuneau says:

OMG, I SO don’t think the City of Anchorage was founded on the principles of the Bible!

hey, justafarmer, could you pass that bottle of scotch my way?

  421. justafarmer says:

does anyone else see his suit as a olive-tone uniform?

  422. Nan says:

GreatGrey, he is a little unsettling, fer shure. (Now watch him get up and be in favor… ) ha.

  423. Doggonit says:

Professor sighting moral commandments of god. Nation based on Christianity. He doesn’t believe in reason and rational thought.

  424. strangelet says:

@636 Crazy: Unfortunately, they’ll never stop saying it, even though it is not true.

  425. justafarmer says:

    a Supreme Court case????

  426. justafarmer says:

LOL, CN…handing a glass to you too, also, there…

  427. Mirage 18 says:

  428. austintx says:

  429. Sourdough Mullet says:

I think this Mormon boy must have gotten hit in the head w/ one the holy tablets…

  430. CrazyInAlaska says:

Can people stop saying that the country was founded on the Bible!!

  431. austintx says:

Did this dork just bring a bible up to the lectern ??

  432. strangelet says:

@625 Nan: You should look it up. It gives an entirely non-wingnut view of the actual beliefs of the actual Founders.

  433. Nan says:

wants, in his blue shirt (!) the city to adhere to the moral whatsit, now reading from Bible.

  434. justafarmer says:

    oh crap, another OT quoter…

  435. Canadian Neighbour says:

Me Too, Me Too!! I can easily learn to drink listening to this!!!

  436. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @ GreatGrey:

  437. justafarmer says:

and that guy in the front row has PAPERS in his hands!

  438. CrazyInAlaska says:

I love when well spoken people get up there, with facts!!!

  439. justafarmer says:

I’m gonna be hopeless in the morning doing tornado storm damage photo documentation for NWS because I can NOT leave this!

  440. GreatGrey says:

The shaved head guy in the red sleeveless t-shirt with the flag on the front row is starting to bug me.

  441. Nan says:

“Treaty of Tipoli” – ??? we are not a Christian country, we are not based as … wow, I gotta look that one up!!!

  442. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Adams, Treaty of Tripoli – very important.

  443. Nan says:

This gal is ner – ah, thyroid prob, bothers voice.

sees so much discrimination in these testimonies, figures there is a need for…??? (love her hair!)

  444. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

this woman speaks quite well with just a few notes

  445. lovemydogs says:

Welcome back Snoskred. You kept me laughing when I needed it last week.

  446. Nan says:

    oh gawd, thank you farmer!

  447. CrazyInAlaska says:

To quote Bill Maher, “…consuming shellfish is an Abomination” I am sick and tired of people pulling the Bible into play when it works for them.

  448. califpat says:

This woman is a Bible thumper of the worst order who uses the Bible to take away others free will and human rights through Christianity.

  449. justafarmer says:

handing a glass to Nan…we need it

  450. Sourdough Mullet says:

Woo Hoo! If this whack job Christian Wingnut with the Webster’s dictionary doesn’t convince the assembly to vote FOR the ordinance, nothing will!

  451. Doggonit says:

Red Shirt black woman pretends ordinance will make her sleep with other woman.

  452. Canadian Neighbour says:

Red – African American – I’m sorry, there was a lady earlier who spoke of one of her relatives that marched with Dr, King for your rights. A White person.

  453. Nan says:

Well, I guess we know how she feels… can’t get much more red in a single outfit… I wonder if she’s wearing white underneath…

violate her right to practice her religion according to her faith.

(whatever happened to Jesus’ words “Live and let live” eh?) wow.

  454. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she is Old Testament, but then talks Jesus (so, she makes absolutely no sense). she gives us basic instructions before leaing earth. WHACK.A.DOODLE.

  455. justafarmer says:

    oh my “witchyu””

  456. Lori in Los Angeles says:

  457. mlaiuppa says:

At some point they’ll close public comment. When they think they can do so without too much protest. They’ll say both sides had their say and enough is enough.

  458. justafarmer says:

what on earth is this woman talking about? She can hardly pronounce the words.

  459. GreatGrey says:

    onerous, flagerently ROTFL

  460. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    whackadoodle alert

  461. CrazyInAlaska says:

The red shirts want to keep it going on until Sullivan is in.

  462. justafarmer says:

me too, CN. Red Hat punked them big time!

  463. GreatGrey says:

A walking dictionary, just what everyone needs.

  464. Lori in Los Angeles says:

I just had a frightening thought. They let people sign up every day. They allow anyone to testify, even if not from Anchorage. I remember one from last week from out of State! So, if the red sh*ts have 100 people sign up each day, even getting folks from across the Nation (fellow Fundies) – this could go on for years and years – OR will the assembly panel at some point stop further testimony? Do they HAVE to keep listening until ALL people who want to be heard ARE heard?

  465. Canadian Neighbour says:

Gotta say, some when they start talking, you aren’t sure – yes or no. As they keep speaking, there isn’t the clarity to know and then poof — they are for it.

Good for the older retired lawyer lady!!

And I loved the red hat guy punked them except he’ll hear it later. Oh well. Good for him. He started strange and got stronger!!

  466. justafarmer says:

ok, is the yellow badge ACLU or Equality Works?

  467. justafarmer says:

    another yellow badge!

  468. ajpinak says:

    finally a run of blue…

  469. CrazyInAlaska says:

  471. InJuneau says:

Regina of the famous blog lives in France, so I don’t think so.

  472. justafarmer says:

    that was fun!

  473. justafarmer says:

sexual activity in the workplace? And she says sexual activity in the workplace has historically been by heterosexuals.

  474. Nan says:

it covers who people are, not what they do. works for fed govt, protected against discrimination.

however, the activity in the workplace can get you fired!

    She’s cute.

  475. CrazyInAlaska says:

  485. califpat says:

  487. GreatGrey says:

Hah! He punked the reddies by wearing a red hat… lol

  488. Nan says:

Did this kid take “oratory” in high school or something? or just nervous, prolly.

folks think discrimination is ok, not because of facts, but their own private lives… (he’s for it, btw). born and raised, no idea of the prejudice around him.

  489. justafarmer says:

  497. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

was the eye doctor for or against?

  498. GreatGrey says:

Very animated doood, but a gentleman takes his hat off indoors.

  499. Lori in Los Angeles says:

rights vs. liberties – big constitutional issue – cites constitution – it is for the will of the people. gov. is forbidden to violate freedom of religion – so this ordianance forces the red shirts to violate their conciences?

  500. Ennealogic-# 12 & 27 in support or against?. Ihave followed your notes, I got

Actually, Ethan was a State Representative and House Minority Leader. Then he ran for Lt. Gov. with Tony Knowles in 2006. Then he ran against Don Young in 2008. I think he’s planning to run for Gov. in 2010.

  515. califpat says:

Ms. Wrighter, you covered the topic superbly. You go girl. Fist Bumps!! Yea!

  516. Ennealogic says:

[last one for me, I have to get sleep!]

46 – seems to be in favor, national org of social workers and studies say gay is normal, comments that lots that has been said was “fuzzy” .. sees bigotry here, and if that isn’t oppression, what is… again, strong comment against discrimination

Once again, fear versus fact … bigotry versus tolerance … my religion versus your deviance

    Wow. Good night all.

  517. justafarmer says:

austin, I think we broke last Tuesday’s post numbers!

she’s straight, many many friends are gay. Sees the hate, sees the dignity of those standing to speak and just continue. “If that’s not oppression, what is? What is?”

  520. Snoskred says:

I am here – I’ve had a few things going on today like my teevee getting taken away for servicing, but I am watching this. 😉

I will like to adopt many of these people. I loved Chris who said he was a civil engineer, if he is reading this you rock, man. 😉

  521. GreatGrey says:

Oops, more my bad, that’s not Ethan.

  522. justafarmer says:

Lori, I’m just trying to keep an open mind and give benefit of the doubt. He is like so many people I know who were raised in a bigot environment, know it’s not right, but that early raising is still there.
He is the poster child, in my view, who knows in his gut it’s not right but can’t articulate it and, at the same time, is trying to break away from his upbringing.
I say that because I’ve seen this time and time again over the decades.
That guy just needs some friends who can get him to finally break that bubble he’s pushing.

  523. Nan says:

social worker, social workers support this ordinance

none of the psych professions believe (homo)sexuality is disorder, proven by research

  524. Snoskred says:

  525. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Lori in Los Angeles
I started to type something he was saying, thinking it was good and then wasn’t sure. Somewhat mixed messages that is he or isn’t he. When he said at the end they were really going for first step to gay marriage — then he lost me.

  526. Nan says:

economic …. alaska commission on aging website “economic something”

  527. Ennealogic says:

44 – business owner, employs gays and lesbians, but is afraid of being sued if ordinance passes; refers to gays forcing the issue like a militia, says gays have agenda to get marriage legal for them
45 – in favor, need the ordinance to allow the Equal Rights Commission to gather the data – strong, knowledgeable testimony, the gay community very important to Anchorage

  528. austintx says:

Yeah Baby…….you go girl……..can’t add to any thing she said.

  529. GreatGrey says:

Oh, my bad, he was a State Senator.

  530. GreatGrey says:

Next man up is Ethan Berkowitz, former Assemblyman and last years Dem canditate for US Rep from Alaska.

  531. Lori in Los Angeles says:

spunky tough alaskan here. she seems a happy soul. she is supportive. she says there were/are outbursts and threats outdoors.
says me: gee, which side do you think is doing the threatening? the rightous prevo ones, that is who.
You GO GIRL. give her a 5 fawnskin.

  532. strangelet says:

Just an aside: A true indicator of the class of Mudflats commenters is that you have all resisted the temptation to refer to the clerical instigator of most of this balderdash as “Pervo”.

    Oh, except me.

  533. Nan says:

sez there are threats last week and tonight outdoors. family would be for, she is for.

  534. califpat says:

Thanks for exposing a bigot and giving him hell!

  535. TX Lisa says:

Ya’ll are doing a great job on the comments! I almost feel like I’m there.

  537. lovemydogs says:

  538. Nan says:

Wild. A guy that does the right thing because it’s right, even though his heart doesn’t (?) agree. Sorta.

  539. justafarmer says:

oh my, he’s digging the hole deeper…

  540. Lori in Los Angeles says:

we’ll agree to disagree on this fellow justafarmer.

  541. CO almost native says:

Are all of the idiot speakers members of Prevo’s Assembly?

  542. Nan says:

Gutierrez – awesome dude! asking why this would be diff from “not” hiring a hispanic, an African Amer, etc.

bidness owner claims that true intentions are to “further agenda”

wow, wait until his employees hear about his testimony

  543. strangelet says:

@520 Lori: Whenever somebody says “the _______ will cry discrimination when it does not apply”, methinks you are correct, he is lying.

  544. Doggonit says:

Biz guy things he’s going to get sued. Thinks it’s all about gay marriage and some crusade.

  545. justafarmer says:

Nan, I got that from what he was saying but then he turned it around to something like don’t ask don’t tell.
I’m fairly certain he is good at heart but he articulated it very bad.

  546. Lori in Los Angeles says:

the truth comes out – “to further their agenda” – he is PRETENDING to be fair and to have hired gays, he is a phoney methinks.

  547. GreatGrey says:

Green shirt is a valley dweller, complaining about the Glen Highway.

  548. Nan says:

he’s afraid of … wow! afraid of lawsuits from disgruntled, passed over applicants

insisted on being allowed to finish (said “No” to chair)

  549. Lori in Los Angeles says:

he is not used to being on tv, this new one. he thinks he is on american idol for lawd’s sake. he said “you betcha!” the people are beginning to speak like the GINO, she has dummied down AK. He does not tolerate a hostile environment, well good on him but does he realize that many others do?
thinks gays will cry discrimination when it does not apply. he is now demanding to finish, he is about to throw a tantrum. methinks he is pretending to be more fair and tolerant than he actually is. methinks he lies.

  550. justafarmer says:

the lesbians and gays would approve what I say…yikes!

  551. GreatGrey says:

bidness owner since 70s, “why” would the city put add’l unneeded “stuff” on his staff etc.

When the gay guy asks if he was passed over cause he was gay, all the bidness owner has to say is “No”, not get out his checkbook. Duh.

  552. justafarmer says:

oh, this green shirt. “employment choices”.

  553. BigSlick says:

    Jeremy STFU

  554. Nan says:

he does have gays – most diverse employment. to some, work is the best part of their day.

his employees have asked for a chance. does not tolerate a hostile work environment

  555. Nan says:

bidness owner since 70s, “why” would the city put add’l unneeded “stuff” on his staff etc.

  556. califpat says:

A toast to the brave guy who gives voice to those who can’t. Clap, clap, clap, whistles, whistles and high fives.

  557. GreatGrey says:

Jeremy sez we can’t have equal rights because of the economy? WTF?

  558. Doggonit says:

If people want proof of discrimination, all they need to do is listen to the red shirters.

  559. justafarmer says:

and the crowd goes positive for Chris!

  560. austintx says:

wow……he is laying it out…….he is coming out right now. He means it………I hope he doesn’t lose his job…….landlord and will rent to anyone…….I respect what he says……..loud applause.

  561. Nan says:

religion is a choice, race is not a choice – both protected.

all born of man/woman. not asking 4 special rights, onliy equal rights.

  562. Ennealogic says:

42 – red shirt, unintended consequences, so many! fear, pervasive strife, division… “establishing another special class at the expense of the ordinary citizen” , lawyers will get wealthy, gay is behavior, all the christian schools will get shut down

43 – for ordinance, risking his job to speak because they don’t know he’s gay; not ‘special rights’ ; wow… i hope he doesn’t lose his job. Strong emotional statement.

  563. Lori in Los Angeles says:

strangelet Says: “I think they’re all going to become martyrs.”

    OKIE DOKIE! : )

  564. strangelet says:

499 LoriLA: Very hard to understand for people who do not consider gays to be humans.

He does not discriminate, goes by employment – it’s the right thing to do

  568. justafarmer says:

oooh, I’m sending out a virtual hug to Chris.

  569. califpat says:

Red shirt said it was a poorly written ordinance and he of course gave a poorly written response.

  570. Lori in Los Angeles says:

this guy is right on – BASIC rights is what this is about! Not special rights. how hard is that to understand????

  571. strangelet says:

austintx: I think they’re all going to become martyrs.

  572. Nan says:

guy is risking his job, not “out” at work, but speaking for others.

  573. Canadian Neighbour says:

Does this man know there is livestreaming?? He may have neighbours there. He’s not out at work == he is now

  574. justafarmer says:

    Yay for Chris!

  575. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    oh, good.
    a five star at last

  576. austintx says:

closing “christian” schools ?? WTF is he talking about ??

  577. strangelet says:

@486 fawnskin: Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Now I can support the ordinance because it will allow so many christians to become martyrs.

  578. Nan says:

it has pervasive, *intended* consequence – something about Boston adoptions (???)

Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, … when Chrisian schools are shut down… 2k kids in Christian schools, 38 million will be needed when the Christian schools close down (that’s one of the consequences???)

  579. Canadian Neighbour says:

Will have to close Christian Schools. Duh Red shirt of course

  580. justafarmer says:

I can’t believe these redshirts who have to have papers in front of them to read.
I wouldn’t need no stinking papers to speak my mind!

  581. Lori in Los Angeles says:

just say “consequences” eighteen times and we will be so afraid, yep uh huh.
christains schools will be shut down! huh? now public schools will be shut down. huh? consequences say it over and over……..

  582. califpat says:

The SP clone is laughable. Maybe she should be denied housing and employment for sheer ignorance.

  583. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    no strangelet,
there is absolutely no relationship between chet and this ordinance other than all christians are sure to become martyrs if this ordinance is passed.

  584. Doggonit says:

Some girl wants answers. Full of endless questions. Wants to know why blondes aren’t protected because of all the dumb blonde jokes.

  585. Nan says:

a LOT of people (mostly reds) say it’s poorly worded.

Also divisive, nothing to do with discrimination, but a protected class…

  586. Lori in Los Angeles says:

so many unintended consequences, but he speaks in broad generalities – be specific re these so called consequences if we are to listen seriously

  587. justafarmer says:

another tighty white redshirt. Watch him switch his butt side to side

  588. Canadian Neighbour says:

There are more dumb blonde jokes than homosexuals. I haven’t got a word to explain what to call her —- AAAGGG

  589. austintx says:

You can document “bad credit” dumbf^*k… dumb blonde jokes ?? thats you honey……

  590. Nan says:

omigawd. Even SP makes more sense than this one!

‘trying to be above federal law’ which sez anyone can refuse anyone for any reason… where are the dumb blond …the what?

never did figure out what she was trying to say

  591. justafarmer says:

taupe jacket with some green accent around the neck.
“Where are the inclusions for the blondes?”

  592. Ennealogic says:

[I’m not gonna make it to the end!]

41 – calls testimony “hearsay” and seems to be disputing evidence of discrimination, refers to AK law where marriage is between man + woman, is chiding the assembly … I have no idea what she was really trying to say

  593. Canadian Neighbour says:

This one is being a smartarse

  594. strangelet says:

@466 fawnskin: Was there any connection drawn between “Chet” and this ordinance?

  595. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

she is pretty nasty to the assembly

  596. justafarmer says:

    oh, this woman is GOOD!!!!

  597. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

there are soooooo many of them.
    with soooooo many little brains.

  598. califpat says:

Lady in the purple, I say prove all the nonsense that spewed out of your mouth!??

  599. justafarmer says:

calling up the 140s…we’ll be here for MONTHS!!!!

  600. CO almost native says:

I’m confused- did anyone at the meeting actually read and understand the proposed ordinance?

  601. Nan says:

calipat, I think he ran out of time before he could finish

and this one – many have been “cured” (or soemthing like it)

  602. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

yes, chet was killed in columbia while trying to translate the bible into a native language.
he was considered a martyr by his fellow christians

  603. austintx says:

    wonderful…..biology lesson…….go away

  604. justafarmer says:

is she making any sense at all?

  605. Lori in Los Angeles says:

her time is up, praise the drol.

  606. Ennealogic says:

40 – purple shirt, says ordinance is confusing, poorly written, refers to 64 as undermining “traditional marriage” amendment, talking about chromosomes and gay as behavior not genetic, people can overcome homosexuality, gratuitous reference to 40 kinds of sexual deviancy

  607. GreatGrey says:

Woman says homosexuals can be cured? Pagin Ted Haggard.

Ethan Berkowitz, he’ll be good and prepared.

  608. Lori in Los Angeles says:

the ordianance is not even about gay marriage – she thinks it is! nothing about marriage in there at all. quoting Jesus -you cannot be both male and female and you cannot switch back and forth. you can overcome homosexuality. this one is a big DUD.

  609. califpat says:

Did reddish – purple shirt ever get to his point and tell which side of the debate he was on?

  610. CO almost native says:

    Are only red ass-hats talking?

  611. justafarmer says:

    wow, another purple…

  612. GreatGrey says:

Woman deleted all her comments before she looked to see what changed? That’s some planning, yepper.

  613. Lori in Los Angeles says:

is this a story of a poor persecuted christian? what did it have to do with this issue? just a platform to promote how the christians are picked on and killed for loving the Lord? oy vey.

  614. justafarmer says:

that is really a “What Not To Wear” outfit…

  615. Ennealogic says:

39 – reddish-purple shirt, recounting personal anecdote about neighbor taken from his home against his will, mischaracterized for his message of love?? executed… by people who had preconceived notions about him, killed because of his religion

  616. Canadian Neighbour says:

    justafarmer Says:
    anatomically correct

    Reminds me of Barbie!!!

  617. lovemydogs says:

I posted this in Sunday: you betcha they are all there regurgitating Prevo’s last “sermon”. he must have posted his “statistics” on his hate filled web site:
Talk about spewing hate…I just happened to turn my TV on this morning to try to catch GS, and who is on the channel that came up but Jerry Prevo. UGH. I usually flip the remote as fast as I can when he is on but I stopped for about 2 minutes (as long as I could take) to see how his fundraising is going. He is like the girl in the fairytale who opens her mouth and nothing but snakes and vipers and spiders come out. His latest diatribe: he stood at the pulpit and spouted a bunch of “statisitics” (never stating where they came from) about how homosexuals have from 500-1000 partners in a lifetime (promiscuity), how gay men are more likely to die from AIDS (and therefore are a health hazard–old news Jerry, I lost more of my friends than I can count in the 80s and then the gay community got smart and started to protect itself– long before the heterosexuals figured out “oh my god, this isn’t a discriminating virus, we can get it too”–but god forbid that we should teach our hormone raging teenagers about condoms). I digress: He then went on to state that “we discriminate against smokers” and that if you can refuse to rent an apartment to a smoker then you should be allowed to refuse to rent an apartment to a homosexual. Holy bat-@%$t Batman! Those gays are going to endanger our health and pollute our air and stink up the carpets and shades if we rent to them. Huh. Does that mean that we can refuse to rent an apartment to a “Christian”? Hypocritical son of a….. . But the kicker was when he said that he hoped he would be “dead or raptured” before he saw equality for homosexuals come to pass. And, more importantly, before the government stuck their noses into “church” business and told them that they would no longer be tax-exempt if they continued to spew forth this hate talk from their pulpits. To this I started screaming at my TV “bring it (the rapture) on then..I hope to goodness that it takes all of these vile, hate-filled, paranoid people right off the face of the earth (that I love) and leaves people who just want to live and let live behind.” That would be heaven or earth. When I calmed down and read between the lines I noticed that what he failed to mention, to his enraptured crowd of followers, was the possibility that his fundraising for his “cause” is not about anything more than raising money to press his political agenda on the masses. Sounds like politics to me. Church and State anyone? Then he says “and there will be ushers coming down the aisles (of his mega-church) to collect your checks..just make them out to Anchorage Baptist Temple” I think hmmmmm, I wonder how much of that money makes it into his pocket??? I turned the TV OFF.
I can’t get the live feed because I have dial-up and it is incredibly slow so I am counting on all of you mudpups to keep me up to date.

  618. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

does anyone know about this “chet” who was killed in loma linda.

  620. justafarmer says:

  625. justafarmer says:

oh, I can NOT believe she’s talking about obese and cancer patients

  626. Ennealogic says:

38 – opposed, this one says there is no real discrimination in health care, ordinance is discriminatory, costly, poorly worded, increase beaurocracy… quotes Plato permitting sexual act only between man-woman

  627. strangelet says:

I’m sure glad you guys write such good comments. It gives me the flavor, without having to actually listen to the wackjobs (I know they’re not all wackjobs, but the wackjobs would make me crazy).

It’s a little depressing to be forced to realize that a significant fraction of our fellows are still living in a pre-Enlightenment mindspace. On the other hand, maybe the ordinance will pass — it is the 21st Century (for many of us, anyhow).

I wish the Assembly would make the speakers prove where they live. I don’t necessarily have a problem with the out-of-towners getting to voice their opinions (however obnoxious), but they shouldn’t be allowed to pretend to be constituents of the people who have to vote.

anatomically correct? it’s not gonna work????
    oh dear!

  632. Nan says:

the doc asked other long time ak docs what they’ve seen /heard re discrimination

  633. Lori in Los Angeles says:

there is no discrimination! she believes that – she is a doctor ? she has only head of 4 cases in the US out of millions (of discrimination). guess she did not listen to the testimony of all of those who have suffered discrimination in anchorage. and now all bathrooms must be remodeled. if I ever visit alaska and get sick, PLEASE do not take me to this doc. she just said doggonit!!
I cannot take her anymore – bathroom obsession again.

  634. justafarmer says:

sorry, I have to say it finally….she is full of CRAP!!!!!!

  640. Canadian Neighbour says:

Red Tie — They aren’t special rights. They are rights that you as a white man have. To work, to educate, to live without a moron like you in their face.

  641. Nan says:

oh criminy. Murder is illegal too, but they had to pass “anti-lynching” laws back in the 30s (I think) to make it stick for “all” persons. sheesh

  642. Ennealogic says:

36 – pink dress, afraid of curtailing freedoms, saying ordinance takes away religious rights to give to gay rights; calls gay a “behavior”
37 – red tie, oh dear, he’s righteous and was lucky to be able to speak tonight, unlike the people speaking for the ordinance who have too much time on their hands… talk about smug.. (sorry, I’m trying to be objective here but this guy is crazy), called himself against the “homosexual agenda”

  643. Doggonit says:

Yellow shirt guy. Don’t hurt the many for special rights to those being discriminated against.

  644. Nan says:

again the “special rights” and “it’s a choice and bad law”

  645. justafarmer says:

not a red shirt, but a red tie…sigh…

  650. Doggonit says:

Lady in yellow says ordinance doesn’t protect religious freedom. She think homosexuality is all about bad behavior.

  651. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    red tie….what does it mean

  652. Lori in Los Angeles says:

SHE has concluded this ordinance is bad. we have right to judge how humans behave and she justifies being judgemental. who died and made her the deicider? the purpose of the ordinance is to take away freedoms! what spin! she can go head to head with fox noise.

  653. Canadian Neighbour says:

I agree with you. She just wants to talk to someone. When she said she didn’t know any gays, I have to admit I screamed — Look around the room. Look who has been speaking.

Ya know, she and the lady with the t-shirt early who lost her job, could probably get along quite nice!!

  654. justafarmer says:

wow, we’re only up to the 120s and there were more than 300 signed up last Tuesday? I need to block out all Tuesdays for a while..
There was that “fart” noise again. Apparently was the mic being adjusted…
But last Tuesday it was DEFINITELY a fart….
    just sayin…

I think they have scheduled more for tomorrow night in an effort to clear this backlog out.

  663. Canadian Neighbour says:

Head(?) of a non profit organization called Build a Family and then says “it’s a choice”. D..khead

  664. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

so this guy wants to change those poor homosexuals. this is quite the sermon.

  665. Physicsmom says:

Confused lady was actually kind of refreshing. Sounds like she’s struggling with the issue. Not sure whether Jesus would like ordinance or not. Maybe she’s saveable. Hope some gay person talks to her in the lobby afterward.

  668. Lori in Los Angeles says:

justafarmer, not all christians are like prevo – even if they wear huge cross – a lesson to be learned by me tonight.

  669. Mirage 18 says:

I found the counselor to be a very compelling speaker.

  670. austintx says:

Well this lady is about a straight shooter………calm..methodical…….looks like she could shred if need her.

  671. GreatGrey says:

    Hello, I”m red flag man:

    Chair: Resubmit in 30 days.

  672. Nan says:

careful to note she is Christian as are her 3 children.

also careful to state that there IS discrimination.

historically, change is slow. ’54, Brown vs board of ed… still places where those changes are not implemented.

  673. califpat says:

The lady who says she does not know anyone gay is totally confused and I might add, just a little slow.

  674. justafarmer says:

    ACLU, I think, fawnskin

  675. Doggonit says:

Mother wearing a cross has three straight children. A professional counselor says discrimination is real. Knows child who committed suicide and gay doctor who lost job.

  676. Lori in Los Angeles says:

powerful testimony here re suicide of her patient due to discrimination – yes, discrimination is alive and well.

  677. justafarmer says:

oh, this is a sad and heart-rending testimony

  678. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    what is that yellow thingy?

  679. justafarmer says:

but she has that yellow thingie so Prevo’s people are prolly spinning aruond in circles

  680. justafarmer says:

oh my! look at the HUGE cross hanging off her neck!

  681. Canadian Neighbour says:

She’s making me feel like a Dr. Dolittle Push Me-Pull You. She’s for– no she’s–she is –maybe not. Aaaahhhhh!

  682. Nan says:

doesn’t think she knows anyone who is gay… I bet she does, just doesn’t realize it!

well, bless her heart. Misguided, but…

  683. Ennealogic says:

32 – red shirt, talking about gays being HIV, promiscuous, short-lived, victims of domestic abuse, deviants, “government discriminates for the good of citizens, e.g. smoking” … “Homosexuality a Public Health Disaster”
33 – another against, “I love the Lord Jesus” and [H]e wants everyone to know [H]e loves all of us, but she can’t “get to the point where she can say [Jesus] wants this to pass…”

  684. justafarmer says:

she thinks she doesn’t know anyone who is gay? ROTFL!

  685. Doggonit says:

Lady says Jesus loves us, even if we are all delusional. She doesn’t know what Jesus wants.

  686. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she does not know anyone who is Gay. she is full of fear, this whackjob.
    booo hooooooo hooooooo.

  687. austintx says:

cig. AND a swill of wine…….happy redshirt ???

  688. Nan says:

It’s almost harder to be cranky towards “right” when they’re courteous about it, y’know? Well, sorta, anyway.

  689. Lori in Los Angeles says:

they have all said everything she was going to say. good. shut up them. proud sunday schoold teacher who loves the lord jesus. this breaks the heart of jesus, who loves us even if e are self-deluded – she should know about delusion. NOT IN MY COMMUNITY she says. she admits she is not jesus. duh.

  694. Canadian Neighbour says:

Red shirt – now quoting RollingStone mag about “Bug Chasers” – transmitting diseases.

His appearance is deceiving. He looked like he could talk and research. Guess not

  695. califpat says:

The lady in black says she wants statistics on how many gays were discriminated against in recent times and that if she is convinced then she just might chance her mind concerning gays.

  696. Trini says:

Michael Penkin. Did he just blow his nose on the floor? He talks about disease “pandemic” Throws out stats on the # of sexual partners, oh, it just goes on. He is wearing a red shirt. He says that the ordinance will pose a health risk to the public. What a jerk.

  697. Doggonit says:

Guys say gays are a hazard to public health like cigarettes are.

  698. Lori in Los Angeles says:

great grey, lol I did not see that.

deviant behavior causes high risk to public health. gay = aids says he.
they have 101 to 500 partners, those Gays. so, therefore, they deserve the discrimination I suppose. Gay is like smoking and alcohol, a threat to the people. health issue. Oh cripes.

  699. justafarmer says:

    ickkkkk…….need more Scotch…..

  700. Physicsmom says:

Woman asking for stats on discrimination, however, since it is currently legal, there is nothing to officially report, so there are no stats. All evidence is going to be anecdotal until this discrimination is declared illegal.

Ack! New guy citing correlation of gay lifestyle and illness, specifically AIDS. What’s the point? Is he planning to purge them?

  701. justafarmer says:

who is this eejit with the HIV crap???

  704. Ennealogic says:

30 – pink scarf, recites line from Declaration of Independence… “everyone here is worthy of being valued” … hmm..
31 – against, says protection is already there in existing law and no ‘special rights’ are needed, wants to see new discrimination data, not from the 80’s, but apologizes to gays if the church has discriminated against them because “it’s wrong” … odd

  705. Lori in Los Angeles says:

“I am not a bigot!” uh huh. needs to see stats – she does not really want to see.

  706. GreatGrey says:

Did that guy just wack a loogie on the floor? 🙂

  707. Lori in Los Angeles says:

if you are too nervous to spit it out, just sit down. we already have protection? er, no, we do not have protection – are you dim lady?

  708. Nan says:

    she was terrific.

Very few of the folks practiced & timed what they had to say, some very surprised at just how fast 3 minutes goes by.

  712. Nan says:

“every person here, every human being – is valuable…”

    bless her.

  713. justafarmer says:

    she’s doing VERY well

  715. califpat says:

    Gina(not Gino) was awesome.

  716. Ennealogic says:

28 – against ordinance, says more time is needed, it’s already been modified a lot; oh, he’s a pastor, uses the code words “behavioral differences” …
29 – in support, called some speech about ordinance essentially over the top; how much discrimination should be tolerated; yes, she touched on my point that even if gay was a choice, so is religion!

  717. Lori in Los Angeles says:

were they farting rainbows like the GINO?

  718. Trini says:

Jeana Ashman. Supports the ordiance. The ordinance does not permit special rights. Discrimination is significant enough. It does occur and should not be tolerated.

  719. justafarmer says:

lol, austin! I hesitatted to mention the fart noise, but this time I think it was a moving the mic noise. But glad we have a fart “sighting/hearing” again!

  730. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    good post GaPeachm thank you

  731. justafarmer says:

ok, I like him so far

  732. Canadian Neighbour says:

Police, fire, nurses — when you need them as you are bleeding — do you stop to ask if they’re gay??

Like the shooter at the Holocaust Museum — the 3 ambulance people were all African American. He must have hated it.

  733. califpat says:

Wilson was such an intelligent young man that was well informed about discrimination againgt gays and transgenders. He came prepared with facts and researh. He did not bring gloom. doom, and fear.

  734. justafarmer says:

another pastor, not sure where he’s coming from…yet

  735. Lori in Los Angeles says:

austin says he is gay – so what? so, he is gonna corrupt the kiddies, invade the bathrooms, spread the aids and fwck donkeys!

  736. justafarmer says:

thankyou califpat, I just couldn’t understand what he was saying but he did indeed sound sincere.

  737. Lori in Los Angeles says:

sarah will not be allowed to substitute

  738. Ennealogic says:

26 – gay eskimo, for ordinance, speaking to dual discrimination, mentions gay friend who is in afghanistan now in military; has studies supporting fact of LGBT discrimination in workplace
27 – taking someone else’s place, turned back, no substitutions

  739. Trini says:

Brenner Wilson (sp?) Difficulty of experiencing gay-bashing. His friend is in afganistan, and gay, and can be fired even after serving. Many people benefit from the services of gay people and are contributing members to the community. He talked about a study that found that 68% reported discrimination and 10-20% less income. Other stats of discrimination on the job and lesser percentage of income. Sounds like very compelling studies that he was citing to .

  740. austintx says:

Very articulate , good looking young man……..comes across very informed and calmly delivers………oh , is he gay…… what.

  741. justafarmer says:

austin, he wasn’t anywhere NEAR as silly as last week’s Borat twin, Sergei

  742. Physicsmom says:

What is with all these Akns who openly discriminate against gays and want to be protected to do that? Waitress mentioned above and other guy who was fired from two jobs for bringing his religion into the workplace.

Two gay natives in a row. Interesting perspective on dual discrimination – both said gay issue was harder than Native.

  743. justafarmer says:

the purple shirt reminded me of something totally OT…I sent off my purple passion swap stuff today. One of the items was purple duck tape. Wish I could have it in person in Anchorage tonight for select speakers…

  744. GA Peach a/k/a Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble says:

OK, I’m not going to lie and say I’ve read all y’all’s posts but I’ve gotta say, this “gay” thing, I’m over it. I want to know where these idiots are tying their goats, ’cause I really do want to get their goat.

My cousin, way super smart, has her ph.d in zoology, is a college professor, drives 80 miles a day, 5 days a week, to a less than stellar position for her abilities, so that she can look after her Momma (88 years old, bedridden for the past 4 years). My precious, sacrificing cousin (when, exactly did sacrifice become a bad word?) believes that the greatest love she can give her Momma is to let her ‘live until she dies’ in her own bed, at her own time, in her own place (100 year old farmhouse) and she does this because she so loves her Momma so.

Oh, and by the way, if it matters, my cousin is ‘gayer than laughter’.

Please, dear God, protect me from those who use your Name to judge this sinner. Amen.

  745. califpat says:

  749. Ennealogic says:

24 – blue shirt, personal recollections of discrimination as gay man, for healthy community need self-esteem (dignity), for 64
25 – red shirt, heavy slavic accent, conflating homosexuals with disease i think, his daughter was discriminated against because she didn’t want to work with gays– i think

  755. Trini says:

  764. Trini says:

  765. austintx says:

  768. Physicsmom says:

What the heck is this guy talking about the military? Doesn’t make any sense. Why are they so threatened by transsexuals? They aren’t interested in the same gender sexually. Weird.

  773. Canadian Neighbour says:

My mouth drops open in disbelief everytime I hear a read shirt. Having laws which started in mid 60’s, with some amendments even in mid 90’s and civil marriage countrywide in 2005 — I’m gobsmacked of what they say.

  774. Nan says:

    sorry – 2 guys in a *women’s* restroom

  775. justafarmer says:

  776. Nan says:

  777. justafarmer says:

  778. bentalaska says:

Go Barb Clark – she’s reading a letter from the UU church and speaking as co-chair of the West High GSA. She rocks!

  785. Trini says:

Hidden liberals who do not vote for the majority of the city. Whew, paranoia abounds! Concerned about men in drag going into restrooms puts her daughters at risk. An attack on her 1st amendment rights and freedom of religion. What a whack job!

  786. Lori in Los Angeles says:

  797. Closet Mudpup says:

Michael Keyes — Lutheran minister(?) — in favor of Ordinance w/ amendments — Christians do not have monolithic view — Ordinance is about justice and equality — no special rights involved — Ordinance is essential to end prejudice and discrimination.

  800. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Smart Lutheran says language in ordiance needs to be cleaned up – he is making good points.

  801. Ennealogic says:

21 – from Evangelical Lutheran church, in favor with modifications, says must protect gay and lesbian people; says fear and righteousness are driving forces against it; was talked down to by other ‘christians’ last meeting; ordinance is issue only of justice and equality; another well-spoken man of reason.

  802. Nan says:

Lori, same here. “an issue of justice and equality…”

  803. Trini says:

Michael Keyes. Wants some changes to the amendment. Protection is essential. Those opposed are driven by fear. It is just about justice and equality, not about religion. People are missing the context of protected classes.

  804. justafarmer says:

what meeting “last night” is he talking about?

  805. Lori in Los Angeles says:

justafarmer, your hairplugs are falling out? me confused.

  813. Nan says:

She’s reading a letter from her pastor, right? Very impressive, supportive.

  814. Lori in Los Angeles says:

Ken got fired for being discriminatory, so he’s obviously against it. LOL

  827. Lori in Los Angeles says:

see the fear oozing from this red shirt guy? sad really.

  828. GreatGrey says:

Ken should have made some notes 🙂

  829. justafarmer says:

yup Lori. And again, her physical appearance, where did she get off talking about alleged men dressed as women? I feel safe saying that because I’m also “larger than life” in my old age.

  830. Ennealogic says:

17 – telling us how God looks on us… :p … does not object to ordinance as long as it doesn’t bring detrimental consequences to others, so please don’t pass it until the consequences can be understood; says he has half his comments for, and half against
18 – in support, says it’s not too soon to deal with the issue; talking about tolerance in a good quote by GWashington; talking about emancipation of blacks. women, how long it took

  831. Trini says:

Brian Clark. speaks to tolerance. Quotes to George Washington. The ideal of American values of his quotes. Principles of equality must apply to all. (citing to slavery).

  832. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

so very well spoken is this fellow…

    beautiful stars for him.

  833. Lori in Los Angeles says:

she said a security guard told her there was nothing he could do – ok, bring on that security guard to collaborate her story. not that the good christian lady would lie.

  834. Lori in Los Angeles says:

good point just a farmer……I suspect her story – make the little girls testify that it happened, ha.

  835. Nan says:

    I kinda liked him.

  836. justafarmer says:

    a purple shirt… to typecast… 🙂

  837. justafarmer says:

yes, this guy is definitely trying to be moderate, middle of the road, open to discussion.

  838. Lori in Los Angeles says:

but he may be strething it here to say that they will have to teach homosexuality in schools – this is not true – they did this to us re prop 8 and it is just not true

  839. Lori in Los Angeles says:

fanskin, he is against this ordiance as written – but he does seem sincere and NOT a bigot

  840. justafarmer says:

how did the girls KNOW they were men dressed as women and where was MOM?
I’m not snarking (much) but Mom looked a lot like the master sergeant. So I can also make a snap judgment based on looks?

  841. Canadian Neighbour says:

It’s a fact that not all women look like that Hollywood Beauty — did she look to actually know they were men in bathroom. Her word – her story – her probably BS

  842. Trini says:

Kenneth Peterson. He’s kinda funny. He wants to protect the traditional family and “constitutional rights” of religious groups. The ordinance has consequences. Don’t approve it yet, unless consequences can be avoided. He’s on the fence.

  843. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    i like the yellow shirt.
he is really really trying to do the right thing as he sees it.

  844. Lori in Los Angeles says:

ok he has read it, has legit questions

  845. Lori in Los Angeles says:

if he does not know enough about this ordinance, WHY doesn’t he read it? is it not clear?? I am serious here, not being sarcastic.

  846. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

i think that this fellow is sincere…

  847. GreatGrey says:

Crystal Dyson. Her 2 daughters in the bathroom when 2 guys were in the bathroom and they came out and complained. Why wasn’t she with her girls? I don’t get that.

It doesn’t ring true, especially the part about contacting security and they did nothing. There are already laws about that kind of activity, and you can bet security was on alert for some Prevocite to do that to make Jerry’s point.

  848. califpat says:

@Great Grey: I’m thinking flat out blatant lie!!

  849. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

yes, the bathroom story seems very convenient.

  850. Lori in Los Angeles says:

uh oh – this lady says it was her daughters in the bathroom afraid of men in there dressed as women…… in bathrooms……well, why does everyone think this law will alllow men in omen’s bathrooms? dumbos.

  851. Ennealogic says:

[note – room has a lot of red in it now]
15 – words of doom and bad things to come if the ordinance goes into effect, talks about “lifestyle choice”
16 – another red shirt, her two daughters in bathroom at last meeting ran into two “guys” who were females (transgendered) and security wouldn’t do anything about it

  852. justafarmer says:

oooh, a personal story about her daughters in a bathroom but just HER word…

  853. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    i am sad again.

  854. califpat says:

Jimmy S. What is there to sit down and talk about when you have already made up your mind that sexual orientation is a “choice” and 64 should be slapped down.

  855. Trini says:

Crystal Dyson. Her 2 daughters in the bathroom when 2 guys were in the bathroom and they came out and complained. Why wasn’t she with her girls? I don’t get that.

  856. GreatGrey says:

This whole kids in the bathroom story smells of something not good, I’m thinking bad fiction.

  857. justafarmer says:

    oooh redshirt: and she’s a coach…

  858. Lori in Los Angeles says:

opposes ordiance – will cause division, will discriminate against religious rights – bad legislation -says there is another route to take insteadof having a law, can just work together as leaders – says it is offending too many people. TOO BAD SAYS ME – ever try to just not be ‘offended?”

  859. GreatGrey says:

Black shirt opposes ordinance just cause he does, nothing specific. Oh, says its divisive.

  860. mlaiuppa says:

#4 who was given more time? He hung himself. Bringing in necrophilia and beastiality just put him in the whacko nutjob category.

  861. Canadian Neighbour says:

The ordinance isn’t bad — HE IS

  862. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

this fellow just wants homosexuals to go away and be quiet.
    stay under their rocks.

  863. justafarmer says:

Jimmy Stewart…a great name, but he doesn’t live up to the name.

  864. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    jimmy stewart resurrects

  865. Ennealogic says:

13 – veteran, transgender, personal story about changing sex, well spoken, saying the uproar the ordinance has created is plenty of evidence that the ordinance is needed
14 – ACLU director wearing yellow badge (like others in favor), gave package to clerk of 4 cases where churches complain their rights have been taken away; offers free of charge representation to any religious who can make the case that their rights have been infringed as a result of the ordinance

  866. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

5 stars for the aclu person (that is who he is right?)

  867. Lori in Los Angeles says:

ordianance will restrict right of churches – NOT TRUE says this speaker.
good points. he is ACLU I believe. he is doing good job.

  868. justafarmer says:

and why is he wearing his tie outside of his suitcoat?

  869. Canadian Neighbour says:

The Lady with the t-shirt who lost her job — I just wanted to give her a hug. I’m actually crying I feel so bad for her. She’s feeling totally defeated.

  870. justafarmer says:

what’s the yellow button he’s wearing?
