Mudflats Theater! I’m Ready for My Close-up Now…

This is great!  You all are in for a real treat.   OK, I’ll wait while you grab your Jiffy-Pop. (time passes, we pop corn, and settle in) This is the funniest thing to happen since the “fugus” comment. Only this time, it’s an actual 5-minute YouTube video!  The first time I saw it,  I was on a computer without sound and I watched, riveted, just reading the text.  I wasn’t getting a complete picture by any means, but by the time the thing was done I was howling with laughter and I couldn’t wait to hear it so I…

Bronze Medal Sarah Palin Book Naming Contest Winner – A Visual!

Like so many of us, Flyinureye, the Mudflats graphics guru, has been playing out in the sun a lot this summer.  Lucky for us there’s been a rainy spell in his neck of the woods!  So…Taa-daa!  Here’s the bronze medal book title winner from our “Name Sarah Palin’s Book” contest, in visual form.  Others will come.  This book title submission was from PepperzMom.  Thanks Flyinureye!  You are the master.

Open Thread – Lost in Translation

I just had to share this.  Whenever another blog links to Mudflats, I can see it from what I like to call “the back room.”    I don’t always check it, but tonight I did, and this one was right at the top…and looked kind of strange from what I could see, so I clicked.  It seems to be some sort of hiking website from Quebec.  It appears that the autotranslator tried to turn all your comments from the previous post into …. French and back?  I have no idea, but I was absolutely in stitches by the end of it. …

In Pursuit of the Hirsute.

World Beard and Moustache Championship Parade in Anchorage, Alaska from Dennis Zaki on Vimeo. If you’re looking for facial hair, from the standard big bushy “natural” look, to the elaborately styled curly look, and the “how much wax did you need for THAT?” spiky do, you needed to go no further than downtown Anchorage. Yes, today was the big day. The parade of the World Beard and Moustache Championships. In addition to Dennis Zaki’s great video above, check out the hilarious piece up on the Anchorage Daily News which asks participants the question, “What does your beard say about you?”…

A Little Light Comedy from the GOP

You just gotta love Michael Steele. He’s kind of like the head clown, leading all the other clowns in their herd of little red clown cars right over the edge of the cliff. What lies at the bottom? Complete political irrelevance. There was a recent Gallup poll that said only 21% percent of Americans self-identify as Republicans any more. This gives me hope. Although we are continually bombarded with messages from that loud 21%, reasonable people have actually been scared away from the fringe religious radical right leanings of the Republican party and have jumped ship. But meanwhile, if you…

Open Thread – And the Winner IS….

Well, here’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.  The top 10 titles for Sarah Palin’s memoir.  So many wonderful suggestions came in after the poll went up I’m almost tempted to have another one.  You notice I said “almost” because frankly, I don’t know if I can handle another day of non-stop laughter like that.  It’s rather a shock to the system, especially so close to the end of the legislative session. But, without further delay, here are our top 10 vote getters out of 1561 voters over a 48 hour period.  Remember that The Audacity of Hype, and…

Sarah Palin’s Book Title – Time to Vote!

You realize, of course, that actually trying to choose the best of your entries to put into a poll is an impossible task. I guarantee I have not listed many titles that left me in stitches! But a poll can only be so long, and this one is ridiculously long as it is with 113 entries.  Why 113?  Because I had to stop somewhere. Have I left off your favorite?  Please hat tip them in the comments.  I have tried to attribute the entries, but some had several people who were the same or close.  If I’ve forgotten to attribute something to…

Name That Book!

I solicited book name ideas in my original post, but it seems that I wasn’t clear enough, so hopefully the title of this new post will redeem me, and give you all some fun. What is your idea for the title of Palin’s new memoir? Please don’t post anything in the comments of this thread except your book name ideas.  I’ll go through and pick out the ones I think are best from that thread and this one, and we’ll have a vote for the best,  like we did for the ice cream flavor.  In case you missed that one,…

Dudeapalooza Continues!

The First Dude’s East Coast Tour continues.  Tonight, he was the guest of Fox News at the White House Correspondents Dinner.  Wanda Sykes was the roaster du soir. The cameras missed the money shot. Todd Palin was nowhere to be seen when this little zinger came: Governor Palin…she’s not here tonight. She pulled out at the last minute. You know, somebody should tell her that’s not really how you practice abstinence. (audience laughs, gasps and says ooooooo) Oh, shut up. Come on, you’re going to be telling that one tomorrow. (laughter) [Open Thread is still active for off-topic posts]

A Party’s a Party, No Matter How Small.

Oh, don’t we love the drive by cleverness of flyinureye?   I always do a little happy dance when my inbox has a special treat from the Mudflats Graphics Department. Apparently the only one who thinks Palin and her magic branding iron can turn this shrinking elephant into something other than….a shrinking elephant, is Rush Limbaugh. Discussing the Republican listening tour conducted by Former Governors Jeb Bush (FL) and Mitt Romney (MA), and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said yesterday that they are “embarrassed” by Sarah Palin. Alaskan progressives, perhaps, have never actually identified with Jeb…
