Putting the goober in gubernatorial -

Welcome to the Fray.

There’s a bit of sage advice that most politicians take to heart:  Rise above the fray.  President Obama is a great example of how this works.  Sarah Palin and spokeswoman Meg Stapleton are a great example of why the advice exists in the first place, and as we have seen before, they are main characters in yet another cautionary tale. After the now infamous “Divagate” incident, Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton issued the following ill-conceived screed: Recently we learned of a malicious desecration of a photo of the Governor and baby Trig that has become an iconic representation of a mother’s…

Palin Blasts Blogger – Again.

Welcome once again to the wacky world of Alaska politics.  When we last left our governor, she was involved in a knock down drag out fight with David Letterman over a crass comment about her daughter getting “knocked up” during a baseball game.  We all know how that turned out, and regardless of which side you were on, or whether you were somewhere in the middle, it was quite a spectacle.  A battle of the Titans.  Former VP candidate and Queen of Alaska Sarah Palin vs. The Undisputed King of Late Night Comedy who can make or break politicians with…

Another One Bites the Dust.

The 2012 Republican prospects are a bit challenged these days. First, there was Bobby Jindal and his famous “What the Hell was THAT?” response to President Obama’s address to Congress back in March.  That’s the one where he ridiculed money to be used for volcano monitoring….just before a major volcanic eruption in Alaska, along with looking, in general, like a creepy version of Mr. Rogers who had no clue what he was talking about. Then, Newt Gingrich did his best to alienate women, Latinos, and anyone with an ounce of sense by calling Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist….

Mudflats Theater! I’m Ready for My Close-up Now…

This is great!  You all are in for a real treat.   OK, I’ll wait while you grab your Jiffy-Pop. (time passes, we pop corn, and settle in) This is the funniest thing to happen since the “fugus” comment. Only this time, it’s an actual 5-minute YouTube video!  The first time I saw it,  I was on a computer without sound and I watched, riveted, just reading the text.  I wasn’t getting a complete picture by any means, but by the time the thing was done I was howling with laughter and I couldn’t wait to hear it so I…

Michael Savage Tells Us “What Happened” to America.

Caller (with pronounced accent):  What happened to us Dr. Savage? (speaking of the country) Savage:  What happened to us?  How many ways can I tell you who did this to us?  It started 30 or 40 years ago with the radical left.  It started with so many different pressure groups screaming for their own ends in order to suppress the white Christian heterosexual married male.  The white, Christian, heterosexual, married male is the epitome of everything right with America, and yet it is the white, Christian, heterosexual, married male who has been made the beast of America.  I can delimit for…

Palin on GOP – They Turned Me into a Newt! Again.

To truly appreciate the latest incident between the Republican Party and Governor Sarah Palin, it’s helpful to take a moment to refresh our memories. I posted a while backabout the strange and devolving relationship between Sarah Palin and the GOP when it comes to “making dates”.  Here’s a quick recap. First Palin says she can’t speak at the GOP winter retreat because she’s got homework in Alaska, and then shows up that same night at the Alfalfa Club Dinner across town in D.C.  Then she commits to speak at the CPAC convention, confirms, and then cancels.  Now, she’s all set…

I’ll Take Palin Fibs and Fables for $200, Alex.

“The feds.”  It’s a slang term that most of us are used to seeing after the words “seized by” or before the words “raided the house.”   It’s never said with respect or fondness.   Rarely do you hear someone say “the feds are trying to give me money,”  or “the feds want to weatherize my house.”  And never have I heard a governor of one of the 50 states, that is actually part of the country, call the federal government “the feds.”  I would no more expect that than I would expect to hear them talk about “the fuzz” or “the coppers.” But…

I Love Myself – A Comedy in Three Acts

The dynamic duo of Phil Munger and Dennis Zaki made quick work of revealing the biggest ego in the biggest state.  Behold the behemoth, over-inflated sense of self worth of John Ziegler.  He’s the guy that made the documentary “Media Malpractice – How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted.”  You can read about my experience at the showing of the film HERE. The tag line on the dvd says “Witness the Death of Journalism.” Well, journalism ain’t dead yet.  The bloggers pull through, and gently guide Ziegler down a damaging path as he reveals the golden, magnificent, puffed-up glory that is…..HIM.  Stomach all…

Ziegler’s Folly

Conservative documentary filmmaker John Ziegler was in town to do a special screening of his new film “Media Malpractice – How Obama Got Elected and Palin was Targeted.” It’s been a while since I infiltrated a Palin event, so I decided to slip in and join the festivities. There seemed to be 300ish people there, I’d guess.  I think they’d been hoping for more, as the theatre was only about half full.  Clearly this was the base.  The base of the base. Bob & Mark of the “Bob & Mark Show” were there as emcees.  Eddie Burke was there too,…

Open Thread – This and That

I Want My Corrupt Bastard Fix! Time was, they were dropping like flies.  It seemed like hardly a month went by when a legislator wasn’t indicted for something.  After the fiasco that was the botched Ted Stevens trial, Alaskans have begun thinking that maybe that’s the end for our favorite past-time of watching the deserving get their just desserts.  Not so according to the Justice Department.  There’s an excellent article by Richard Mauer in today’s Anchorage Daily News, that addresses the issues, including the current investigations of Ted Stevens’ son, and former Alaska State Senate President Ben Stevens, and current-for0the-moment…
