Tiny Alaskan Island Has Awesome Amount of Pride

Yes, I apologize for the click-baity headline. But it’s rare these days that I can share good news from Alaska… or for that matter anywhere in the US. This news comes from the tiny Alaskan island of Wrangell. For those unfamiliar with the ridiculously huge geography of Alaska – Wrangell is 1,073 miles from the states largest city, Anchorage – that of course includes at least one ferry ride with your car. The population of Wrangell, according to the 2010 census was 2,369. That didn’t stop it’s residents from making a great showing for their Pride this year. Thankfully a Wrangell resident,…

Palin, Ducks & Free Speech

OK, so I guess I’m writing this. I tried really hard not to, but if one more person screamed, “First Amendment!” in defense of this self proclaimed hillbilly, I think I’d cry. [Sidenote: Can I say that if you get a paycheck from the Arts and Entertainment Network, you immediately lose your ‘hillbilly’ creds.] The Half Hearted Governor Sarah Palin dressed in camo, that she claims she wears ‘all’ the time went on Fox News to bloviate: “This is all about freedom, free speech, you know, so many American families have spilled blood and treasure to guarantee Phil Robertson and…

Obama: Alaska Get Your Act Together on LGBT Protections

So do we need a Federal Overreach Summit on Facebook? I’m sure that Gov. Parnell and his crew will be weighing in on their own social media sites soon. But until then – what do you think Alaskans should we listen to the President and actually protect our citizens who happen to be gay from workplace discrimination. (That’s more of a rhetorical question…) Weigh in over at the mudflats facebook – but you can check out the comments here. The comments so far have been relatively calm and not tea-party-ish but I’m sure that Arizona ‘resident’ Sarah Palin will be…
