Open Thread: Peter and the Wolf featuring Shannyn Moore (by LKB)

I promised this for yesterday. Well, it’s a day late and the blog didn’t cooperate, but here it is — the Anchorage Civic Orchestra directed by Phil Munger performing Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.” Your narrator is our own Shannyn Moore! Here are a couple of photos I grabbed in the beginning. FYI — Concertmaster Walter Oliveres will be working with the Affetti Orchestra this summer (Morrigan is in it) so I’ll get to enjoy his playing a great deal!

Open Thread: An Afternoon at the Symphony

I had planned to post the video(s) of the absolutely wonderful performance of Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” by the Anchorage Civic Orchestra and Shannyn Moore as narrator. However, the download seems to be taking FOR-EVA! (It couldn’t POSSIBLY have anything to do with the video game being played on the other computer…nooooo…) Ya’ll will have to wait until tomorrow for that. However, I have a couple of still photos off of my little Sony-version of a “Flip” (called a “Bloggie”…yeah, I hate the name too…). They aren’t the quality of my Nikon pics but you’ll see those tomorrow as…

Honoring Our Veterans; An Afternoon at the Symphony–Events for Saturday, May 14th

If Friday was any indication, today should be a beautiful, warm day perfect for lawns, gardens, parks, etc…However, when I looked at my Facebook invitations, it seemed that EVERYONE decided to do SOMETHING on May 14th. Since my daughter has her own band practice on Saturdays, I had to narrow my schedule down to several of the events that (to me) stood out the most. Starting at 10:00 am and running until 5:30 pm is the annual “Gathering for Veterans.” It will be held this year at the Curtis Menard Sports Center in Wasilla: The Gathering of Veterans is an…

We will have a large projection screen set up for our…

Sister Sarah Ain't No Moses

By Shannyn Moore While preparing to jump out of a cake for Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday, Sarah Palin found time to serve up a fresh batch of Word Salad. My condolences to the transcriber who probably has a giant case of Post Traumatic Punctuation Disorder. The topic? Egypt, Reagan and 1 Timothy. Palin was asked about Egypt on the “Brody Files“: Sarah Palin: “Remember, President Reagan lived that mantra trust but verify. We want to be able to trust those who are screaming for democracy there in Egypt, that it is a true sincere desire for freedoms and the challenge…

More on the Shooting in Arizona **UPDATE**

— As most of you know, this morning, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head during a meeting with constituents at a grocery store. The gunman killed at least six people and injured (from what we know at present) at least 13 others with a nine millimeter handgun. These pictures are exclusive to Mudflats and depict the scene at Rep. Giffords’ office in Tucson several hours after the shooting at the Safeway. People began to gather at the office, using it as a place for shared mourning. (A big “thank you” to Jay and Kathy Cross for…

Shannyn Moore is Moving – Nudge That Dial!

Starting Monday, our very own Shannyn Moore will be moving her radio show from its current location at 1080am, up the dial to 1020am.  Same time, same studio, same Dave the producer, but…  she’ll be back on a Fox affiliate station.  You remember when Shannyn was on one day a week at rightie KBYR? Well, it’s deja vu all over again, only with different call letters.  The oddly named brand new KOAN will be lighting up the dial, as KUDO goes dark. The owners of KUDO, the IBEW, have decided to get out of the radio business, so Shannyn has stepped…

Voices from the Flats – Dear Sarah, You're Not Alaska.

By Zach Roberts Special note: This is a message to Sarah, that I sent to her via Facebook. Alaskans will get all the places, some of the references and some of the names. If you don’t get them, give it a Google, or read TheMudFlats.net (why aren’t you reading it already? What’re you a member of the Paliban?) Or better yet, get your butt on the next flight up to Anchorage. Yes I know it’s November and it’s cold… that means flights should be cheap. Go to Spenard Roadhouse get the Bacon Jam and tell them I sent you.  ***************…

Rachel Maddow Talks to Vic Fischer & Shannyn Moore

Well, it was a pretty exciting night in Anchorage! Rachel Maddow came and filmed her Tuesday night show right here in our humble city. Before I go pour myself into bed, I thought I’d put up one of my favorite segments of the show. This is Rachel interviewing Vic Fischer, one of the original delegates to Alaska’s constitutional convention. Yes, he’s one of our founding fathers so when certain candidates go throwing around comments about constitutions, he’s the guy to set them straight. And of course, Shannyn Moore livened up the discussion with her take on the election. It was…

Shannyn Moore On The Thom Hartmann Program! (Live Blog)

Our very own Shannyn Moore will be hosting The Thom Hartmann Program today, Thursday, September 16. Thom is winging his way cross-country and asked Shannyn to fill the coveted slot in his absence. For those of you who have been living in a cave where radio signals do not penetrate, Thom Hartmann is the number one progressive radio talk show in the nation, broadcasting from New York to Los Angeles and more than 100 other markets in between. He also broadcasts on Sirius satellite radio, and is simulcast on Dish Network/Direct TV/Free Speech TV, reaching over 60 million homes in…
