Mothers of the Movement Join Hillary in Raleigh

Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina Hillary Clinton was joined by the ‘Mothers of the Movement’ – mothers who have lost children and family members to gun violence and police killings. In front of a crowd of thousands at St. Augustine’s University, a historically black college Hillary and the mothers called upon everyone to vote and vote early. The five Mothers┬ádid not discuss their sons outside of mentioning their names. Secretary Clinton called for better police and citizen relationships, while not offering specific programs or ideas to further this. A dozen or so members of Moms Demand Action were also in…

Time to Stop Blaming the Victim

A few decades ago I was in one of my favorite pubs in Seattle. I eventually made my way to the ladies’ room, which had signs posted in the stalls and by the mirrors: “There have been several rapes & attempted rapes this week. Please be careful.” Well, that’s good to know. Travel in packs — it’s safer. Some poor woman may get attacked if she strays too far from the herd. Bam! Raped. Should have kept up, Missy. The NAACP is calling for Civil Rights charges to be brought against Zimmerman. “A jury in Sanford, Florida has found George Zimmerman not guilty of murdering Trayvon Martin. “I know I am not alone in my outrage, anger, and heartbreak…

Florida’s “Walking While Black” Shooting — Could It Happen In AK?

by Linda Kellen Biegel I’ve been waiting to see what crappy legislation (considered to be “a lesser of evils” by legislators who desperately want to trade for votes on their own bills, or shore up their second amendment credentials) would show up this session. Ding, ding, ding, ding…we have our winner! House Bill 80 has cropped-up as one with a long list of sponsors in both the House and the Senate. As we are told, HB 80 sailed through the House and now has “broad bi-partisan support” in the Senate. What is HB 80? It is another bill that has…
